My first was 8lb 4oz. She was 15 days late.

i am terrified my next one is going to be a monster! I am much bigger this time round (although i am a slim build 5ft 6) - i already look like i did at 7.5 months last time and im only 20 weeks.

How do you know if your going to have a big baby.

How much bigger in comparision was your second to your first?

Thanks :-)

I looked bigger second time but it was all water. Plus body had already been stretched so got bigger more quickly iyswim.

Dc2 was 5oz lighter than dc1 - even though she was in for longer (2wk late versus 10 days for first)

I wouldn't worry too much, no real way of knowing til they pop out

If you are going to have a big baby it is likely that it will be picked up at one of your scans or when the midwife measures your tummy at one of your midwife appointments.

Both my DC's size was picked up this way. I was measuring 4 weeks bigger than dates for each one. The doctor was most unconcerned and said that if they were looking super huge then they would consider inducing early but as I was fit and average size, they would not do this in my case. He said the only time he'd done it recently was with a tiny Thai lady who was carrying her big Swedish partner's baby!

It's quite normal to look bigger 2nd time round, my midwife says it's cos your stomach muscles are buggered from the first pregnancy! Also baby might be lying in a position that makes you look bigger.

DS1 was 9lb10 at 40+4
DS2 was 8lb at 35+6.
So I think DS2 would have been big if he'd gone to term.

Don't worry, big babies don't necessarily mean difficult births! Mine were both fairly uncomplicated.

5madthings · 31/01/2013 14:10

Ds1 8lb 7oz

Ds2 9lb 3oz

Ds3 9lb 5oz

Ds4 10lb 13oz

Dd 8lb

All were overdue.

5madthings · 31/01/2013 14:11

My biggest baby was my easiest birth and my smallest was the hardest but that was because she was back to back, position is more important than size time.

Hobbitation · 31/01/2013 14:13

DD1 was 8lbs, DD2 was 9lbs 2oz. Both were just over a week late. I thought I'd better leave it there...

Though DD2 was easier to deliver - labour same length but 2nd stage 5 minutes instead of 40 minutes for DD1, so I shouldn't worry too much about size

Dillydollydaydream · 31/01/2013 14:13

Dd- 7.3 (39wks)
Ds1- 8.1 (41 wks)
Ds2- 7.9 (40 wks)

Think mine would have roughly been the same if they were all bang in due date.

littlemissnormal · 31/01/2013 14:13

2lbs bigger exactly, but an hour and half labour compared to 9 hours!

PandaNot · 31/01/2013 14:27

Ds 5.13 42+2
Dd 7.15 39+1

MirandaWest · 31/01/2013 14:29

Ds was 6lb 1oz at 38+3
DD was 7lb 11oz at 40+4

Much easier birth second time round

abigboydidit · 31/01/2013 14:43

DS 8lb 13oz @ 41 + 5
DD 8lb @ 41 + 1

I had a growth scan at 30 weeks for DD and was told she was much bigger than average & would be considerably heavier than DS. Nope!

Wandastartup · 31/01/2013 14:49

Dd 1 6lb 9 oz 37 weeks
DD2 8lb 9 oz 41+3

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/01/2013 14:53

Dc1 was 6lb 8 oz born at 38+1
Dc2 was 8lb 3oz born at 40+1

EwanHoozami · 31/01/2013 14:53

DS1 6lb 7oz
DS2 10lb 2oz

Bloody hell.

atrcts · 31/01/2013 15:08

The ultrasound scan report usually has a tiny scale a bit like a percentile chart on the right hand side about half way down the page.

This will give you a clue as to how big your baby is! I believe that most hospitals will dig out your previous scan on the first baby to compare measurements if you ask. Smile

dinkystinky · 31/01/2013 15:09

DS1 9 lbs - 2 weeks overdue
DS2 - 38 weeks - 8 lbs 6 oz

ouch Ewan!

craftynclothy · 31/01/2013 15:10

DD1 7lb 3oz
DD2 6lb 5oz

Lindor · 31/01/2013 15:14

ds - 6lb 7oz at 42 weeks

dd - 6lb 2oz at 40 weeks

TinkyPeet · 31/01/2013 15:47

Ds 6.2 (39+5)
Dd 9.3 (39+5)
Both back to back
Relatively quick active labours.
This one has already had a growth spurt from 2 scans n I'm only 16 weeks. Eek lol

shottspar · 31/01/2013 15:50

DD 8lb 13oz (40 + 10)
DS 7 lb 2 oz (38)

Both were back to back, DD - 17 hour labour, DS - 3.5 hours Smile

chickabilla · 31/01/2013 16:13

Ds1 7.11 at 40+5
Ds2 7.5 at 40+4

Measured small with both and both times the midwives said they would be under 6 pounds while I was in labour.

BabyBellasMumma · 31/01/2013 20:14

DD 6lb 5oz (37+5)
DS 9lb 14oz (40+9)

Watto1 · 31/01/2013 20:25

DD 10lb 13 (40+10)
DS 8lb 12 (39+2)

Gestational diabetes with DS. General consensus is that I probably had it with DD too but it was missed. DD measured average size all through my pregnancy until my midwife appointment 2 days after my due date.

Both DC on the 50th centile these days (age 4 and 2)

metimeatlast · 01/02/2013 10:16

DS1 born 3 weeks early weighed in at 5lb12oz Smile
DD2 was 14 days overdue and weighed in at 10lb Shock

i put 4 1/2 stone on for both pregnancies
it was picked up by a late MW apt, she said "ooh yes, heads nicely down in possition, you Do realise your having a big baby??!!"
er... no! i hadnt!
Looking back DS1 made alot of movement, if you pushed my belly an elbow would poke back out at you Grin. DD2 however wriggled a little, but never felt near as much or kicked out like that. probably due to lack of space.
only pethadine and gas for both deliveries.

beckie90 · 01/02/2013 11:38

Ds1 42wk 6ib 8
Ds2 40wk 9ib

It wasn't picked up that ds2 was biggish, they said he was smaller than ds1, I had a different feeling though cause whenever he moved he hurt me and ds1 didn't.

Flisspaps · 01/02/2013 11:46

DD 40+16 8lbs 2oz
DS 40+1 11lbs 7oz

They thought DS was going to be around 9/10lb.
