We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable.

I would like to thank MOH MOP Ovaltine Caramellokoalalover (I think she's changed her nickname) Fluffy, Horsey Kali and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

suffolk I am no expert at this at all but I believe it takes a couple of days for it to show in your urine. Get them to test you again if you are still unwell or as fl0 said, get some strips. I just ordered some off amazon as I am too unwell to go anywhere.

Thanks for the reminder about 'baby on board' badges. Remember many train companies allow pregnant women to go in first class if standard full - you have to send a copy of your MATB1 to the train co for a certificate.

In my first pregnancy I found 'youths in hoodies' to be very considerate about offering seats, but middle age professional men to be rather unpleasant! I remember being 6 months pregnant, on crutches, with a man refusing to give up the empty priority seat next to him as he was saving it for a non-disabled friend (neither were disabled). I publicly humiliated him. Don't cross an angry pregnant woman!

Today I felt okish so went to the hairdresser to have my hair washed and blow dryed. Haven't been able to wash it for over 3 weeks. It feels so nice now. Was a bit embarrassed that after 2 washes I had to go back for 2 more washes with the special detoxing shampoo as my hair was so dirty Blush

Hi everyone.

I was so hoping I wouldn't have to join this thread this time around. Sad

Last time I had severe morning sickness from roughly 9 weeks - 21 weeks, then a brief respite, then back again from 29 weeks until birth. I lost a lot of weight in the first trimester but luckily avoided hospital as apart from a handful of really bad days, I was usually able to keep down water and a slice or two of dry toast in the late afternoon.

It was hellish. And now I am only just 7+1, and trying to cope with a really active 26 month old. And it's starting again, even earlier than before.

CBeebies has been on ALL DAY. Poor DD got very confused and frightened watching me vomit. She knows I'm sick and doesn't understand it. Half the time I can't even speak properly to reassure her because I'm trying so hard not to be sick. Yesterday wasn't so bad, I was able to eat in the middle of the day and as long as I've kept SOMETHING down I don't feel so wretched and I don't worry as much about it hurting the baby. But today I haven't been able to have anything.

I just feel like I'm letting DD down. And I'm so scared because the thought of seven more months of this is... Impossible.

Sorry for the pity party. Blush

Pollaidh · 13/03/2013 16:42

Hello Closer
Yep it sucks. Welcome to the party!

If you don't manage to keep any food or liquid (try eating ice or ice lollies) for a day then go and see your GP asap and they will possible admit you for rehydration or prescribe some anti-emetics (you don't mention that you are on any). If you aren't on any it sounds like it would be worth trying something like Cyclizine. Downside with it is that you won't be very alert for childcare, but if you're literally starving and dehydrated you're probably not that alert anyway (I am now scared that I tried to work when so ill as I was really out of it and could have done something awful).

You can also buy ketostix from some pharmacies to measure how dehydrated you are.

It's awful having a little one who doesn't understand. My (just) 3 year old has her own 'cough bowl' that she pretends to vomit into. It's reassuring but also sad that she's now so used to mummy vomiting that she doesn't pay much attention - at first she was scared but the nursery and my husband reassured her, now she just accepts it.

It too feel guilty that basically Mr Tumble is bringing up my daughter! I'm lucky she's in nursery most of the time though and my husband is great. I really feel for you having to look after your child with this.

LucindaE · 13/03/2013 16:58

Holdme Welcome, I do feel for you, it must be so hard coping with toddlers.
Are you on meds, yet? Have you got any family or friends who might be able to help out? I'm glad you kept out of hospital last time. It certainly sounds as if you suffered badly, though.
Choccie' SadI don't think you can realistically be thinking of working for a while yet, to be honest - can you get another sick note? I know teachers feel guilty about time off, but this is like being hit by a train. It might be worth asking for different or additional meds as these don't seem to be doing much.
Suffolk Oh no, in hospital, here's some Thanks for your bedside. I wonder what they meant, exactly?
Poll What a horrible man that was on the train! Words fail me...
Flo You are still battling on at work, you deserve a medal...
Waves and Room How did today go?
Princess and Reebok?
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

Tallyra · 13/03/2013 17:36

I'm sorry everyone seems to be having such a terrible time. Vicki I really feel for you. I've been there 3 times with mmcs. it's just such a feeling of uselessness that you have had to go through so much and all for nothing. I do hope you don't let it put you of though. I'm still hoping for a successful one eventually. sending you lots of huge hugs and now you are not so sick, some cake too.

wavesandsmiles · 13/03/2013 18:58

Quick update as on phone in bed feeling awful.

Massive problems with my "care" at hospital. Staff have decided I should be over this by now, so refused to treat me today. Despite having 2+ ketones that I'm sure are on the rise. No cannula in as that was taken out for no good reason yesterday, and I am feeling pretty upset. They said to call if it doesn't improve which I fail to see happening in the absence of any medication at all. So back to massive uncertainty and facing another full blown admission if I don't improve.

Sorry for not reading thread, will do so tomorrow. Hugs for any of you having a rough time

PrincessRichards · 13/03/2013 19:24

Waves that's awful, how can they just send you away with no meds. Like anyone would choose to be in hospital grrrr makes me angry!

Sounds like you'll be back in very soon, it's easy enough them saying you should be over it but obviously your not Hmm

Thinking of you, fingers crossed for some improvement soon Smile

RoomForALittleOne · 13/03/2013 20:25

Waves why aren't you on any medication? How do they expect you to survive like that?!

Today has been pretty yucky. I'm annoyed that I had to have the GTT as I really don't think I have GD and it has set me back sickness wise. I have quite a few things to do over the next few weeks and I don't feel like doing any of it. I want my bed!

RoomForALittleOne · 13/03/2013 20:26

Oh, and Waves I'll be 23 weeks tomorrow so 'should' be over the sickness by now. If it weren't for the ondansetron, I would be admitted, I'm sure.

chocciemousse · 13/03/2013 21:13

Hi. Sorry for my ignorance but I got my husband to pick up some ketostix on his way home as I couldn't wait for the ones I ordered online. This is the first time I have used them. It came out at the second last purple 80mg. From what I've seen on Internet that is pretty high. Do I need to go and get medical assistance straight away or can i wait until morning? I have just managed to drink some black tea.

RoomForALittleOne · 13/03/2013 21:27

Is that +++?

chocciemousse · 13/03/2013 21:30

Yes it has +++ on top of the purple strip

RoomForALittleOne · 13/03/2013 21:35

I've just checked and it is 3+. You can be admitted at 3+ but you don't have to be. I chose not to because I wanted to try new meds at home first and was confident that I could try and manage sips of drinks. When I couldn't manage like that I knew I had to go in whether I wanted to or not (I had 4+ ketones but was told they would probably be 6+ if that could show up). It really does depend on how you are managing and if you have other options. You could end up just having a bag of fluids and some anti-sickness in A&E then go home if you are lucky.

chocciemousse · 13/03/2013 21:41

Thanks Room. That's encouraging. I am too tired and wouldn't have the energy to get myself there tonight. I've kept the little bit of tea down I had so will retest and see how I am in the morning. I have definitely felt worse so should be fine for now.

RoomForALittleOne · 13/03/2013 21:44

Just make sure you keep re-testing. If it gets to 4+ I would say go in even if you don't feel like it. I didn't feel able to but it wasn't until I started to feel a bit better that I realised how confused I was and how unable I was to make a good decision.

chocciemousse · 13/03/2013 21:49

Yeah I think I'm definitely talking myself into feeling ok because I don't want to go or have to get myself there. Thanks for your help room. I will keep testing and go if it gets any worse.

Tallyra · 13/03/2013 22:11

oh my god waves, that is crazy! you should sit in the corridor of the ward and throw up on anyone that ignores you.

Pollaidh · 13/03/2013 22:20

Yes it's difficult to make decent decisions when you're dehydrated, even if you think you're ok (when you look back you'll be horrified). But just keeping down sips of water over a few hours can reduce you from ++++ to +++ I found. Go tomorrow morning -may be best to see GP first and get referred straight to the ward to avoid A&E hell.

chocciemousse · 13/03/2013 22:37

Thanks Pollaidh. That's good advice. Will do that.

wispa31 · 13/03/2013 23:35

evening all! thought id pop in and see how everyone is doing?
i had been feeling great since my stay in hospital and then on saturday night my tablets finished so i decided to try going without for a few days to see what happened as id been feeling pretty good. well, was fine up til last night when i got home. my friend was in to get her hair done and then the vomiting started just after 9 :( had to leg it to the bathroom!!
ended up i was sick 7 times between 9 and just after 11.30! even sips of water set me off!
so, 8.30 this morn after 2 voms i rang the doc and got prescription sorted straight away, my surgery have been so good! back on cyclizine today and already feeling better. i would have defo ended up back in hospital if id let it go another day. forgot how shite id felt with the sickness, was like a really bad hangover this morn!
waves - thats shite! its inevitable you will be admitted again! cant believe they have been so mean! hope you get sorted x

wispa31 · 13/03/2013 23:43

and choccie - id get yourself straight to gp first thing with some wee! id gone to mine to get it checked as id been sick all day and night and not keeping anything down. it was 3+. id managed a half a piece of toast and some tea before i went and she sent me to hospital, when they checked it it was 4+, after having a couple small cups of juice. 4+ is not going to drop down to nothing over a couple of hours and you wont be able to get in fluids quick enough by mouth to reduce it either. it took me over 48 hours and 6 litres of iv fluids to clear mine.
when i eventually got admitted and put on fluids i was starting to feel better the next day, and by thurs i was feeling great, i would have happily stayed on a drip as long as i was feeling that good on it lol!! you really will be surprised how much better you feel once fully hydrated.

chocciemousse · 14/03/2013 08:35

Thanks Wispa. I've called my gp and am waiting for a call back from her. It is notoriously difficult to even get a telephone appt let alone see a doc where I am. Re-tested this morning and I was +++. Have a strangely bad stomach ache too. Oh the joys of pregnancy. I never expected it to be like this.
