Does a normal labour start like braxton hicks - painless hardening of the bump, quite regularly?

I didn't have a normal labour with ds, so I don't know!

Not necessarily. Can do though. Mine always (ha - twice - always!) start with twinges low down in bump which build up.

How many weeks are you now? Must be imminent!

zebraz · 15/04/2006 23:01

I had "normal" labours... they all started like menstral cramps, then got very persistent, then got more, then got very tough to deal with.

Braxton Hicks can go on for weeks before labour is really imminent. Personally I always resolved not to get too excited until I got to toe-curling pain.

marthamoo · 15/04/2006 23:02

She's 9 days over, hunker....

hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:03

Ohhh, noooo!

REALLY hope this is the start of your "I'm in labour" thread then!

colditz · 15/04/2006 23:03

Mutter, mutter, bloody imminent...

Try 9 DAYS OVERDUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wah!!!!

by regular, they are about every 5 minutes. And I never really had any braxton hicks in either of my pregnancies, this is the most I have had!

ooooooh

Pruni · 15/04/2006 23:04

I had loads of BH - then a gap of two days with none - then labour, as described by zebra

hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:05

Pruni, did you ever think your labour would be described by a zebra?

Colditz...have been overdue with both mine (10 days and 4 days) and this IS your labour thread, I know it! Grin

Heathcliffscathy · 15/04/2006 23:06

colditz i reckon this is it. this is what happened with my sisters second and the intense bit only lasted about 2hours and then out dnephew popped! she had what you're having for about 12 hours (like period pains, nothing more really) then the full on bit for a couple of hours then birth....good luck!

colditz · 15/04/2006 23:08

Ooooo getting all excited now!

Should I go to bed and try to sleep or will that stop it happening? I'd rather be tired than induced again tbh

Mears is around - want me to point her in the direction of this thread? Actually, I just will.

Rest good, IMO.

zebraz · 15/04/2006 23:10

With the 3rd baby I did have very persistent B-Hicks for at least 4 hours before I got to the menstral cramp pain.
If you can, I really want to encourage you to sleep now. If this is nothing, you're depriving yourself of much-needed sleep. If it is something, you're depriving yourself of much needed sleep.
Honestly, turn the computer off, go lie down and try to sleep. Don't come back until you're thinking "Ouch, that is really annoying".

Ohhhhh, how exciting, but you mustrest, try and get some kip, this bit could go on for ages x

zebraz · 15/04/2006 23:13

...of course, I'll be thinking about you & not able to sleep myself!

colditz · 15/04/2006 23:13

right, I'll go to bed then. You're right, I am missing valuable sleep time, what was I thinking!?

It'll probably all stop in 10 minutes anyway.

hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:14

Really hope it all starts for you v soon - after a decent rest though - will be thinking of you!

mykidsmum · 15/04/2006 23:14

Nighty nighty and good luck x

mears · 15/04/2006 23:32

Might be start of labour, might not be. Agree with the advice of trying to ignore them and going to bed. You might get runs of contractions like his over a few days, stopping and starting. Helps soften the cervix.

If they are painless then they are not worth counting at all TBH. Something might happen during the night.

I remember a few times going to bed and waking up in the morning, surprised that I had not laboured throughout the night (when I was prenany of course).

Hope something happens for you soon Smile

hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:35

Thanks, Mears.

mears · 15/04/2006 23:37

You're welcome Wink

NotAnOtter · 15/04/2006 23:39

my db is 2 months old yesterday and i fear i am feeling a wee bit envious of you!!!!

hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:40

(NAO, me too...DS2 is 3mo in 2 days...and seems like yesterday I was posting my "is this it?" thread on here!)

colditz · 16/04/2006 09:45

Humph.

Well, I'm still here, Mears (thank you btw) was right, it all came to bugger all and they stopped 20 minutes after getting into bed.

Tummy still feels grumbly though, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

thanks for getting all excited for me, I think you all got more excited than I did! LOL
