Spotted '3 white lines' at the 20 week scan.....

We had decided we wanted a surprise, and the hospital where we had the scan doesn't disclose gender anyway.

However, as the midwife zoomed in on various parts, I saw a clear, short 3 white lines 'down there', with equal distance between. I remembered someone saying that this is a sign of a girl, is that right?

Previously I had been convinced we were having a boy so it's thrown me off, but we'd be over the moon either way.

Has anyone had a gender scan who knows more than me?

Yup. 3 lines = girl. Congratulations! Smile

I saw a pair of bollocks at my 20 week scan. Didn't want to know, but the picture clearly showed a big pair of balls.

So was surprised to welcome dd2 into the word Grin

Unless you are a professional I don't think you can really tell.

Rooobs · 25/11/2012 19:57

like a hamburger? Grin

unless you have another scan and ask the sonographer to confirm, you'll just have to wait and see!

we were told we were having a girl at 20 week scan, but it is supposed to be so much harder to confirm a girl than a boy that even when she was born I had to ask them to check again.

congratulations Smile

3 lines - girl! Congratulations!! I'm obviously not a medic but that's what my doc told me when I was pregnant with my daughter....

abigboydidit · 25/11/2012 20:04

I wouldn't start buying yet! My friend had 3 white lines..confirmed by the sonographer as a girl at the 20 week scan. 20 weeks later and they had a bouncing baby boy and a pink nursery Shock

LuckyOwl28 · 25/11/2012 20:07

I think it's worked out well, as previously I could only picture me with a boy whereas now at least I can get myself prepared for a girl, and if it's a boy... well it certainly won't be a disappointment! Grin

We won't buy anything blue or pink yet but it's made me so excited! Wink

Wish I hadn't read this. Arses

sunnysunnyshine · 26/11/2012 14:03

Me too newnames ! I'm so excited I got told dc2 is a girl at my scan the other day but now I'm worrying they got it wrong! I did ask the sonographer to double check and she showed me the lines but it sounds like it could still be a boy?!?

abigboydidit · 26/11/2012 14:43

There was a thread here a wee while back (maybe a week or so?) about whether gender scans are always reliable - may be worth looking it out as it may be more positive? Afraid am on my phone so can't get it to work! Anyways - you have a 50/50 chance so may be right still Grin

shushpenfold · 26/11/2012 14:44

Ahhhh.....my blue room, blue teddies and blue clothes worked so well on my ds2...except that he was a dd1!

LostInWales · 26/11/2012 14:49

My beautiful daughter as predicted by two ultrasounds and me (some experience) is a rufty tufty 5 year old boy now. I think we were looking at his rather huge arse and not his (relatively) tucked away boy bits. Grin. Not easy to spot, boys are easier to predict as demonstrated by DS2 who looked like he had sat on the probe as there was an almost comic 'meat and two veg' image in the middle of the screen.

abigboydidit · 26/11/2012 14:59

LostInWales - you paint a beautiful picture! I feel a career for Hallmark beckons Grin. Genuinely laughed out loud at your post!

Missmuffet28 · 26/11/2012 15:06

Just had my 20wk she didn't go anywhere near the bits till I asked for opinion and sure enough there was a clear image of little balls and a willy so if ds2 turns out to be a girl I'd really have to question what was on the screen that day! He could have been giving the bird I guess as that's just what it looked like! I spent the last 16 weeks convinced it was a boy for some reason so it didnt surprise me in the slightest :)

Flisspaps · 26/11/2012 15:09

I suspected there were 3 lines at my 20 week scan.

Clearly I was wrong.

DS is definitely a DS.

stowsettler · 26/11/2012 15:23

I couldn't see no lines, but sonographer seemed pretty sure I'm having a girl. I will be GUTTED if it's a boy. Just finished the nursery and it's so pretty!

katiecubs · 26/11/2012 16:05

Wow that's a real shame stowsettler :(

Dogsmom · 26/11/2012 16:05

These threads make me nervous too, we had a gender scan at 16 weeks and sonographer said she was certain it's a girl, then at the 20 week scan I asked the sonographer what she thought (didn't tell her about gender scan) and she also said definitely girl.

I too have a lovely, pretty, girly nursery ready plus a wardrobe full of girls clothes aged from newborn through to 9-12 months.

I keep reminding myself that at the gender scan she had her legs open so a willy would've surely flopped down?? plus they checked from 5 or 6 different angles to be sure.

BillyBollyBallum · 26/11/2012 19:22

If you feel that strongly stowsetter I would suggest you get another scan to be sure in case you need time to come around to having a ds.

noblegiraffe · 26/11/2012 19:28

At my 20 week scan the sonographer said it was a girl and pointed out the '3 lines' and I nodded and said 'oh yes' but really I could see bugger all and trusted her expertise.

I did pretty much the same thing when she pointed out the bladder and the kidneys. It could have been the head as far as I could tell.

LuckyOwl28 · 26/11/2012 21:38

God i hate to be in a position like that, not being 100% having already decorated for a certain sex. I know they're expensive but is it worth you going private for a gender scan, I know they give you a 4d preview which should confirm things? I was quoted £70 for that but going to keep ourselves (kind of) in the dark.

stowsettler Sad

us4downhere · 27/11/2012 07:12

I've got my 20 week scan today so will be on the look out!! I think I'm going to ask them to tell me...but it's obviously not set in stone!

Didn't want to find out with first 2 DC's but can't resist this time!

floatyjosmum · 27/11/2012 07:31

I had my scan yesterday and its a girl!

Sonographer said that although the three lines means a girl this is only if the legs are open and everything has the chance to 'be free'. by all accounts little boy bits can be tucked upwards and if their legs are closed the three lines can be seen.

backinaminute · 27/11/2012 07:47

I had my 20 week scan and we wanted to find out. The sonographer showed us and asked what we thought. I too had read about the 3 lines and that's what I saw, and thought it was a girl - she said 'its a boy' - I personally would err on the side of caution as they know what they are looking for.Grin

StiffyByng · 28/11/2012 14:57

I saw a willy at a growth scan around 30 weeks, and my midwife got a 'boy's heartbeat' while I was in labour, but I got a girl.
