DH has some sort of illness with very fast onset and now I'm terrified...

My DH is never ill.

Yesterday and the day before he was shivering, but boiling hot, severe headache, nausea... And today he keeps saying his hands and feet hurt... and it's become more and more severe until he's literally hobbling around and his fingers have a sort of red rash of spots that look like heat bumps on them.

He's not a baby so he must seriously feel like crap to be acting the way he is...

He said he can't miss work tomorrow as he has to process someone's time sheets for them (a contractor who is away) as a favour and so can't see a doctor.

I'm 8 weeks pregnant after 6 miscarriages and I'm terrified he's going to give me something... This sounds completely selfish I know but so much has gone wrong I just can't think of anything else.

Am I being totally precious or do you think it warrants making a bit more of a fuss so he sees a doctor for both our sakes?

He told me to call my GP ( different practices) but there's no point if I don't know what's wrong with him

A&E? NHS Direct? I would ring them for some advice as to what it might be.

Have you looked at the meningitis symptoms?

He's got to phone NHS Direct or OOH GP. It could just be a nasty virus that will go in a few days with a bit of rest, but it could be something that needs treatment. And he also needs to be thinking of you and your baby...

Sounds like Hand foot and mouth possibly?

Is there somewhere else you can stay for a while? Parents who could look after you if you get sick too? If your DH can drag himself into work he can probably manage to feed himself! If you start getting sick you need to get yourself straight to the doctor & explain not only your own symptoms but DH's too.

It's not selfish for you to worry about your unborn child, it's natural! Take care of yourself!

Tell him that seeing a doctor tonight might mean he's fit to work in the morning. Or that he's got a bloody good train for not being there.

Yeah, he's being an idiot. nevermind if he doesn't want to go to the doctors, just for your peace of mind he should. Esp as you might be more worried than most given your background. (I just had two mc, and I was much more worried as a result.) It will be fine though, but you need the reassurance of a doctor.

Could u get him to a walkin centre? Could it be some sort of allergic reaction on his hands? Nhs direct would probably tell you to go to walk in or a and e. Other option is out of hours doctors service - usually have their number on your gps answer phone when surgery closed.

And yes, he's being a bit of a twat. He doesn't know what kind of illness he's got and that it isn't dangerous for the foetus.

I don't think you will have had your booking in app yet? If not, google the number for your local maternity triage. You could give them a buzz and just get some reassurance re you. If you have been booked in, number is at front of notes.

Sounds like he has influenza. Rash and joint pain very common. Flu can be a very serious and debilitating illness.

NHS direct told him to go to A&E and he said he didn't want to do that so she said to get an appointment with his GP. He's called them this morning and he can't get an appointment for love nor money.

Definitely not if that's what NHS direct said to do! Kick him out of the house & tell him not to come back until he's seen a doctor!

Have you got a walk in centre anywhere near you?

Some A&Es have a WIC on site.

It seems to be virtually impossible to get a GP appointment these days.

What I want to know is, who are all the people who do manage to book up all the available appointments, and how do they do it?

I agree with everyone else, it is really important that your DH sees a doctor asap.

You need to think about going to stay with a friend or relative if you possibly can.

Hope he's been seen op nd you've seen your midwife

I don't have a midwife at the moment, I'm under a consultant and having viability scans but won't get my green notes till next week.

We're already staying at my parents while our house sale goes through... I might have to send him to his parents. I feel like a total drama queen but I can't help worrying.

He's going to wait till midday to see if he gets a cancellation at his surgery then go to A&E... Fingers crossed its no big deal.

I would agree with what everyone else is saying - just make sure he sees someone today. It is most probably nothing to worry about but with your own medical history you obviously don't want to be taking any chances.

3littlefrogs - mainly the elderly who book an appointment for 1,2,3 weeks time etc. on their way out - just in case they need one . I was a Drs Receptionist for a few years & it was quite a common thing to do.

Think you need to speak to a doctor right away and live with family or friends for a while...
