32 weeks very sore piles :(

hello, i'm 32 weeks gone, and have very sore external piles, does anyone have any advice? i'm using anusol ointment but not giving me much relief as yet...the thought that this could last until the birth is frightening me as i can hardly move and am usually very active...

If really bad and swollen then please see your GP. I had one that had clotted - although not dangerous it was v painful! They sorted it out and I was back to normal within a day or so.

how can i tell if it's clotted? having trouble getting appointment at gp, finally got one booked for late pm 2moro. thanks for reply...

Mell mine was one particular spot that was very sore and swollen - like it might burst, very sore and hot, couldn't sit straight and walking wasn't much better. Either way get them checked, they might have something stronger you can have for the pain if nothing else

I'm so glad someone posted about this! I'm 36 weeks and developed first piles this week external ones absolutely painful and embarrassing. I've been using germoloid cream has numbed but not really helped. Getting up courage to go to dr's this week!

You can use Germaloids which is stronger than Anusol, and has a local anaethetic in it which helps. Use every time you go to the loo, and also just before bed time. It really helps! They go down within a day of using.

mini- sorry to hear your suffering too, although glad i'm not alone, wouldn't want anyone else to feel this pain. definately going docs 2moro, sooner i can i get it looked at the better...i've heard shallow warm baths followed by ice cold witch hazel compress helps the soreness, and someone suggested pushing them back in!!...i'm not convinced!

Get to doctors. I had Xyloproct ointment which sorted mine out within a couple of days (it's much better than over the counter creams).... Doctor also gave me codeine for the pain which I alternated with paracetamol - but I already knew and he warned me that it can cause constipation so i was VERY careful to keep drinking lots of water and eating lots of fruit etc.
Other advice I've had is to try ice packs (or I suppose even a bag of peas might work, since they would mould around them) to try and numb the pain and reduce the swelling.
The FINAL thing I've been advised to do (but haven't yet tried) is to pack a lot of sugar on them...i know it sounds odd but my friend who's a piles guru swears by it.....
It's miserable and I totally feel your pain - but if you get the right treatment they will quieten down in a couple of days, hopefully.

Just don't be afraid to ask for pain relief. Doctors know how painful they are too. And they see it ALL THE TIME so don't be embarrassed.

and aim for squishy soft poos. It helps (even if you do end up needing to buy shares in Andrex moist toilet tissues )

Tried the pushing back in and can recommend not! made it more painful! Going to try and get an apppointment tomorrow to get it checked. Hope your apointment goes well :)

Have had the worst piles over the last few weeks (am 32+3)..

Currently using anusol cream and suppositories but no relief. The itching is the worst bit :( :(

Had a quick peak earlier and looks like a bloody cauliflower. Why won't they go?

pinkoyster- i am also 32+3! have you tried ice cold compress for temp relief from pain and itching...? seems to be helping me, dont leave on for more than 10 mins at a time tho...

Suppositories were only thing that helped me. Took two different ones to try and resolve but you have my sympathy girls. I still suffer every now and then

thanks for reply..did they suppsitories clear them up completly? its just i've heard the swellings could stay for the duration. (til after birth)..:(

Have not been brave enough to look! One of my friends warned me never to look at lady bits while pregnant! I'm worried about the whole labour process making them worse :( laid here at 3 am in absolute agony!

managed to get a good nights sleep last night, i think i was so exhusted from 3 nights pain and itching....off to the docs at half 2, will post the outcome...oh and germoloids is much better than anusol for sure...

Hope your appt went well and you have some relief! Unfortunately saw a trainee gp and she said she was going to prescribe xyloprox then changed her mind as she said it wasn't suitable for pregnancy and that she had something else more suitable. Picked the prescription up and it was bloody anusol weaker than germaloids that I had all ready been using. Didn't realize til I got home and burst into tears have tried it and it just burns at least with germoloid it gave numbness for an hour or so. Looks like I'm going back again to hassle them!

my docs app was also pointless! didn't tell me anything i don't already know (high fibre diet, excessive fluids etc) i've also bought some witchhazel which was recommended by a friend and am wondering wether to dilute it or not?? have been using the germoliods cream which is a short term fix but no visable difference...:(

Sorry yours was also rubbish! I had the same even though i said i'm not constipated, only drink juice and water and have a high fibre diet! She looked at it and said boy that looks painful! I'm just hormonal, cross and in pain now!

Just tried to get hold of witchhazel and none in village chemIst so am off to get some tomorrow in town. My friend also recommended this for healing after birth. Have no idea whether to dilute or not! Did not think I'd be spending my first week if maternity leave being dictated by piles!

quick one from me. i got one at 38w ish. used anusol didnt help in fact got worse found i am sensitive to the anusol ingrediants stopped using it and pain went. had little boy at 39w3d. ps didnt notice pile in delivery and even though its still there its no worse and no more painful xx

Yes the suppositories have cleared it up however (TMI) I still have some very small (but fear not they are painless) which have never gone since having my dd1 7 years ago. I hope you get better soon. They really are so awful

Just read about anusol.... I also became sensitive to this which in turn made things worse! Also caused thrush.
I will check the suppositories I was prescribed and reply back soon

I AM pregnant (36wks) and I was prescribed xyloproct by my GP.
Go back and complain. It was the only thing that really truly worked.
I hate the lottery that comes with GPs, argh.
Go and get some. You can't have this for the next however many weeks it's just not fair.

Thanks elk I'm planning on going back as they at so damn uncomfortable just what I need to top off a breech baby, crazy crying hormones and severe reflux! I'm 36 weeks too!

i have found the suppositories make them more comfortable, perhapsu can ask your gp to consider those? most gps seem to be better if u just tell them what u want!
