Maternity jeans - recommendations please!!

I am really struggling!

I am looking for a pair of maternity jeans that don't keep falling down/require constant hitching up.

I have a couple of pairs from Vertbaudet which I spend all day hitching up. They have a sort of in-the-middle-of-your-bump band which doesn't seem to help as it just folds over as soon as I bend.

I have ordered and returned countless pairs from Next as they are either too low-rise or feel like they will fall down as soon as I have done some walking/sitting.

I am a SAHM so spend a lot of time on the floor playing, so would like a comfy pair and a smart (skinny) pair for when I go out. I am a size 8/10.

Thank you!!

Top shop Baxters? I lived in those, or I had a divine H&M pair which went right over the bump and felt so snug. I never wanted to wear jeans with fastenings ever again :)

Randomly......New Look. I swear I haven't bought anything in there since I was about 12, but somebody recommended them for maternity clothes and I would do the same.

pollygolightly · 28/09/2012 20:18

H&m- go right over your bump and are so comfy! Super long too, I'm 5 ft 10.
So comfy if just succumbed to another pair and I'm 35 weeks! D'oh!

GrassIsntGreener · 28/09/2012 20:21

2nd pregnancy and I didn't find any for my 5'2 usually size 12 self. Sad

Looking forward to having baby early next week (section) so I can get out of them!

gloucestergirl · 28/09/2012 20:23

I second H&M. In fact I have cut off the bump band and now use them as regular jeans. Fitted perfectly pregnant and not pregnant.

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 28/09/2012 20:31

Thanks! Do H&M sizes come up big or small?

I also vote for Topshop's Baxter - in black - super comfortable.

PricklyPickle · 28/09/2012 22:59

Another vote for H&M here. They're dead comfy and look good. Pre bump I was a 10 so I went for a size 10 maternity and they fit perfectly. I'm 5'5" and they're a good length on me.

bonzo77 · 28/09/2012 23:06

H & M are the best of a bad bunch. I wouldn't bother. Stick to leggings and tunics, yoga pants, dresses and tights / leggings.

GrandPoohBah · 28/09/2012 23:06

Seconding New Look as well. Very comfortable and they stay up!

ticklebug74 · 29/09/2012 00:53

This is my third pregnancy and I wish I had found new look
Jeans first time around, they really do stay up but annoying thingbuscthe bump band bit finishes around your belly button so shows when wearing a tight top so I usually leave it under my bump. Dorothy Perkins under bump were good in early pregnancy.

AlisonDB · 29/09/2012 03:15

I 3rd New Look!

They have a good assortment, lengths, sizes, styles and over and under bump bands, colours (dark, light, black denim)
You can get them from £16.00 upwards
I have a H&M pair from Preg. 1 which dont even compare to my New Look jeans, like you i have comfy pair for every day and a dressy pair for going out, etc...
New Look also do a nice range of mat Tops too, and all at a really good price (no point paying over the odds for something that will not be a constant fixture in your wardrobe!)
Im a childminder and look after 4 children so im constantly on my knees or playing on the floor, the New look ones wear really well and havent yet sagged at the knees ,

AlisonDB · 29/09/2012 03:18

Ticklebug, i have the over bump band and it goes almost to under my bust, but its comfy, and you cant really see it under tighter tops as it falls sits on the top of my bump,
My H&M ones sit on my belly button and are constantly slipping down!

DeathMetalMum · 29/09/2012 07:15

How many weeks are you? I have a pair of topshop ones I think baxter they are great but in the early few weeks of wearing them due to the way the bump panel expands. (with a little piece of elastic and byttons) The expanding/elasticated part is only on the front so the back feels as if it is falling down constantly even though it isnt. I think its mainly because I was at least 25 weeks when I first tried them on last time.

They were most usefull once my bump was too big for the new look jeans (also great) and they kept sliding down all the time.

BodyUnknown · 29/09/2012 07:29

Try Seraphine! They have a shop in Hampstead if you are in London and a website. A bit more expensive than New Look, Next etc but after wasting money on pair after pair that fell down or bump band slipped, I bought one pair from Seraphine that saw me all the way through. Am on

BodyUnknown · 29/09/2012 07:30

Too soon... Am on phone so can't link, but google them, they are great...

PeshwariNaan · 29/09/2012 07:31

I just got some very comfy stretchy over the bump bootcut jeans from Mothercare for 30 quid. They don't fall down, which is a major problem for me with other mat. jeans.

The Seraphine underbump ones are seriously horrible - expensive and don't stay up for anything.

armedtotheteeth · 29/09/2012 07:36

I loved my topshop baxters. £40 so not the cheapest or there are always some on ebay. They really don't look like maternity jeans so you can wear them for a good few months weeks after having your baby too.

noblegiraffe · 29/09/2012 07:44

New Look over the bump ones are comfy. Don't even bother with below the bump ones, they only fall down.

That said, it was mortifying going into New Look to buy them. The maternity section was right next to the 9-15 girls section so there were all these impossibly thin and gorgeous teenagers wafting around and I was waddling about carrying these giant trousers.

AlisonDB · 29/09/2012 09:03

If you are embarrassed to go into New Look they have a website & deliver for free i think, (or for very cheep)
But i would definatly recomend their entire Mat range.

QuickQuickSloe · 29/09/2012 09:12

6th recommendation for new look! The over the bump ones stayed up a treat. Pretty good quality too, I wore mine a lot and now they are in the loft ready for if I we have dc number two.

BionicEmu · 29/09/2012 09:55

Going against the grain here, but I love my mamas and papas jeans. I have some under-bump ones that don't fall down, they have a very adjustable waist band so I can get them to fit just right, and they wear very well

I have some new look jeans too but they're a bloody nightmare, am constantly hoiking them up, but they don't have an adjustable waistband.

Maybe it just depends on your shape though? I'm 5'6" and was a size 16 pre-pregnancy, but am now 22 weeks and have lost 1.5 stone through morning sickness, so am finding I'm a size 14 now.

Dandelion75 · 29/09/2012 11:22

I've ordered New Look jeans today in a range of styles and sizes. They do free delivery to any store you choose, and apparently you can return items to store too (I hate having to post back online purchases tha don't fit!)

my plan is to buy loads, pick them and and try them on in the store then return the ones that don't fit while I am there. [ grin]

femmeaufoyer · 29/09/2012 11:37

Definitely over-the-bump, I've only just discovered them on second pregnancy. I too had the under-the-bump first time and they are useless. I'm wearing M&S maternity jeggings, but they are really like skinny jeans...really comfy and look good too.

CakeBump · 29/09/2012 22:13

Why would OP be embarrassed to go into New Look Alison?

I have two pairs from Seraphine. Not cheap, but very flattering.... however, they do need hitching up a lot, so possibly not much use to you.....
