If you breast fed, when did your periods come back?

Simple as that really. I breast fed ds1 until 9 months and really can't remember when they returned, I assume it's different for everyone but I'm just looking for a rough idea.

It may seem an odd question but we're hoping to try for dc3 fairly soon after dc2 due to medical reasons but wondering if I should stop bf at 6 months this time to give periods a chance to return so we can ttc again.

Mine returned when DD was 7.5 months

28 months! Not sure how usual that is though. I was still feeding when they came back, stopped when he was four and a half.

With dd2, it was when she was 4 months. And she was ebf. But with dd1 it was something like 10months. I bf her til about 8 months, but mixed fed after 6 months.

Mine came back after 14 months. I had 2 cycles then I conceived DC2. Which makes me happy to think that if it takes as long for my period to return after DC2, then I'll have only had 2 periods in... Umm... 4 years I think

With DD it was when she was 3 months and with DS2 it was about a month. Both were ebf till approx 6 months.

5 months EBF to 10 months
I was gutted and promptly got a coil fitted so they buggered off again.

Ds is 18 months and breastfed my periods came back at 6 months.

Exactly 9 months both times. I think as weaning was established and they had less feeds it came back. Surprised with dc2 though - he fed all night till he was 1!

At about 16 months and after just 4 months I was pregnant again. I was BF still till this point.

With DD1 it was about 7mths and DD2 was 15mths. I've no idea why it took longer to come back after DD2, she slept much more at night than DD1 from the start and so had less feeds.

Meant to say that both were/are ebf, DD1 until 13mths and DD2 is 19mths and still going.

Interesting, really seems to be a wide range then. Think I'll aim for bf for 4-6 months in the hope they'll return soon after so we can ttc again. Thanks for all your answers.

6 weeks [weep] despite BFing round the clock.

For me it happened when I went down to 2 feeds per day. That was at 10m for DC1, 9m for DC2 and 8m for DC3.

8 weeks after the birth

So unfair!

14 months for dd (stiil bf, had 2 cycles and got pg again....). 15 months with ds, both continuing bf at the time.

I love lactational amenorrhoea! (And posh words...)

soup and queen you both have my sympathies.

Mine were back at a year and I'm still feeding 22m old despite being 32weeks pg too! In retrospect I'm not sure if the two periods I had were actually periods, but I certainly fell pregnant quickly and easily enough! I'm getting the implant in after this one just to be safe!

Fed DS until he was 8mo and periods returned as soon as we stopped feeding. Twas very depressing as I felt down from hormone-related withdrawal anyway, then my ruddy period arrived to compound my misery!

2-3 weeks after post natal bleeding stopped, so about 4 or 5 weeks.

THREE TIMES!

And at 33 my cycle has reduced from 28 to 21 days. My body hates me

I've been quite unlucky in a way, I exclusively pump but my periods came back after 4 weeks!!

DC1 nearly 14m
DC2 nearly 17m

It's the overnight feeds that do it, I gather. You could consider night weaning but keeping the morning and bedtime feeds.

DS born: 19/03/2011

Period returned: 17/06/2011

So period arrived 2 months, 29 days (or 90 days) later :)

After DS1 they came back 18 months later, after DS2 8 months later.

After dc1 I don't think I had one before I got pregnant with dc2 with he was 14 months old.

No idea with dc2

Dc3 I had a sort of half period when he was 9 months and got pregnant with dc4.
