Just curious really - DH and I have been TTC for 3 years in November (long story - fertility issue on his side which we knew about so we did expect this)

I know it's just the way it is, but every single person we know who has had a baby or is pregnant either had a surprise unplanned pregnancy or fell pregnant within a few months if trying.
Our latest friend to fall pregnant took 5 months which is the longest of anyone we know in RL.

It is a bit disheartening TBH especially because I think people are now starting to realise we are having problems as we have both always been openly broody, have a decent house and jobs, married for 2.5 years etc - from the outside it must seem like there is no reason for us to not have had a baby by now! Sad

I know it takes most couples a lot longer than a few months and we just must have a group of fertile friends!

So...how many months were you trying?....GO!

I'm not sure this will help you, but 1st time 3 months, 2nd time 1 night.

InchyInchy · 13/09/2012 15:10

I wish I could say months but it has taken us just under three years to get here (19Weeks)

I had pretty much given up and was waiting for a IVF refferal when I got my BFP, I hope you get yours soon!

Badgerina · 13/09/2012 15:14

5 months both times.

With DS1 I came off the pill in October, and was pregnant by the end of February, that was with a lot of trying and "timing" and a couple of negative tests.

With this baby I had my copper coil removed at the beginning of August 2011 around our first wedding anniversary, but we didn't ever start trying in earnest. We weren't in a hurry so thought we'd leave it up to chance. I didn't use tests at the end of any cycle except the last, as I wasn't expecting anything to have happened.

I think it takes most couples a year or so? I'm not sure.

HarlettOScara · 13/09/2012 15:17

3 months.

Stopped taking the pill end of June 2011. DD born end June of 2012.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 13/09/2012 15:18

2 years with my dd, and 5 and a bit years now for another.
All unexplained but because of circumstances we are not eligible for further help.

plannedshock · 13/09/2012 15:20

3yrs. Pcos, my friend took 5yrs now pregnant through ivf with twins, someone else I know has taken 1yr then it seems like everyone else looked at a willy and got pregnant by mistake!

sundaesundae · 13/09/2012 15:22

About ten minutes. Everyone is different, we are lucky that we don't have fertility issues and I fell the one time (I was away with work he was sick) we did it the first month we decided to try.

Paradisefound · 13/09/2012 15:22

10 months. Just about to start fertility investigations ... As my menstrual cycle is 77 days long !! I was so shocked .. I really didn't think it would happen. In fact we had pretty much given up ... I think that's what made the difference !!

SuperSesame · 13/09/2012 15:24

First time, 8 months.
Second time, got it first go.

First time we didn't have a clue about timings but gradually had to learn it as time went on.
This time, DTD on day 12 and day 14 and got bfp 2 weeks later!

MangoHedgehog · 13/09/2012 15:25

1st month both times. I know we are incredibly lucky

JennerOSity · 13/09/2012 15:27

1st time (on honeymoon Blush ) first month, second time was 7 months.

whatsoever · 13/09/2012 15:34

10 months (then a MMC). 3 months with no pregnancy, then a break. Then 1 month (currently 37 weeks).

My friends and me seem to fall into 2 distinct groups - fall pregnant almost immediately or 1 year +. I seem to have a high incidence of PCOS and miscarriage amongst my friends.

Russki · 13/09/2012 15:36

1 night - but on the more comforting side, my sister was all set to go ahead with IVF when she got pregnant - I've always wondered if it was because she stopped worrying about it.

squidkid · 13/09/2012 15:39

I think people talk about it less when it takes longer. This makes it seem like everyone is getting pregnant overnight. I only took a few months, but I have friends who took more than 2 years the first time (they had investigations but all was normal) - the second time only 2 months - go figure.

I have another friend who I only just found out has been trying for about 18 months and has recently had investigations - again, all is normal. My fingers are crossed for them - and for you, too.

RightUpMyRue · 13/09/2012 15:39

2 years of not using contraception but not really TTC 1st time round.

1 year of trying which ended in an MC.

6 months of trying and am now 11 weeks.

caramelgirl · 13/09/2012 15:39

First month for DD. 19 months for DC2 (now 9 weeks pg). I am on private prescription of progesterone (cyclogest 400mg 2 x day) and this and acupuncture seems to have cracked it instantly after 18 months of monthly disappointment.
Good luck. Fwiw I'd say half my friends have scondary infertility after instant pregnancies the first time.

ALittleBitOfMagic · 13/09/2012 15:45

First time while on microgynon

Second time 5 months

B1ueberry · 13/09/2012 15:47

2 months at 32
2 months at 35

hopefully never again.

sammyleh · 13/09/2012 15:47

2 weeks. Stopped taking the pill on NYE pregnant by the 15th Jan :) This is also my first pregnancy after being on the pill for about 8 years. I know I'm very lucky.

WitchOfORANGEdor · 13/09/2012 15:50

About 10 months ttc and started fertility checks when one friend said she'd been in the same boat and shed dtd on the last day of her period and fallen pregnant. Tried it and fell pregnant first time, after 10 months of sex in the supposed middle of my cycle!

CakeBump · 13/09/2012 15:50

Took us 6 months (DC1), so about average.

Considering I'm 34 and DH 44 I thought we were pretty lucky...

panicnotanymore · 13/09/2012 15:55

2nd month post pill. I'm 39 so was a little surprised, everything I'd read suggested at my great age I might as well not bother.

I hope it works out for you too OP.

piratecat · 13/09/2012 15:58

3 yrs, i was 32 when i got pg. no fertility problems at all, when tested. they were basic sperm count/motility and the test whether i was ovulating.

so 3 yrs. hth.

sunnysunnyshine · 13/09/2012 16:02

First time with both dc1 and dc2. I do realise how lucky I am, especially as I'm late 30's.

crochetcircle · 13/09/2012 16:06

9 months - ended in mc
3 months - dd1
2 months - dd2

I always tell people how long it took us to get dd1 as no-one ever seems to say in rl if it wasn't an instant result!
