Just curious really - DH and I have been TTC for 3 years in November (long story - fertility issue on his side which we knew about so we did expect this)

I know it's just the way it is, but every single person we know who has had a baby or is pregnant either had a surprise unplanned pregnancy or fell pregnant within a few months if trying.
Our latest friend to fall pregnant took 5 months which is the longest of anyone we know in RL.

It is a bit disheartening TBH especially because I think people are now starting to realise we are having problems as we have both always been openly broody, have a decent house and jobs, married for 2.5 years etc - from the outside it must seem like there is no reason for us to not have had a baby by now! Sad

I know it takes most couples a lot longer than a few months and we just must have a group of fertile friends!

So...how many months were you trying?....GO!

10 months of very active trying (now 37w pregnant). I've only ever met one person irl who took more than a go or two to get pregnant, which was pretty disheartening at the time.

2 years at 36 with fertility issues on dh's side. (no treatment)
3 months but sadly miscarried
3 months at 38

Oh and congratulations fatima!

kidcrayola · 13/09/2012 19:40

When we decided to try we assumed it wouldn't happen straight away.......happened straightaway!

terilou87 · 13/09/2012 19:46

tried for two years with first had an argument with oh and decided no longer going to try then a few weeks after deciding that +ive no fertility probs at all then with dc2 i fell preg strait after having dc1 not planned then it took 6 months with dc3 and this time for successful a year and half 2 m/c in between,

Jollyb · 13/09/2012 19:50

1 month with my daughter. having a few problems with number 2 - started trying last November - 3 MC but no baby yet. Good luck OP.

Wiggy29 · 13/09/2012 19:53

2 months trying au natural, 1 on CBFM (we got pregnant that month). First was a happy surprise. Grin

33goingon64 · 13/09/2012 19:53

Three attempts (in one week). DH was devastated delighted

Wiggy29 · 13/09/2012 19:59

PS- A lot of people in RL don't disclose they've been TTC until after they've conceived. Many people you know may have been TTC for a long time but often, when fertility issues, many people chose to keep it private. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

HaveALittleFaith · 13/09/2012 20:02

Yes the more people we admitted to about our fertility problems, the more people admitted it hadn't been a picnic for them either!

Zara1984 · 13/09/2012 20:03

Two months, using CBFM from the get-go. Didn't ovulate in first month. Due to a history of infertility probs in DH's family we had half a mind to get him a semen analysis - he was really scared. Very pleasantly surprised we got pregnant so quickly but would make no assumptions it'd be as easy in the future.

CaseyShraeger · 13/09/2012 20:03

Three months to get pregnant (ended in miscarriage) then another seven-eight months to get pregnant again.

DeathMetalMum · 13/09/2012 20:07

Both times we have not activley tried. Just taken a what will be will be approach lots and lots of sex . First time I think took a couple of months. Second time I had two periods after they returned due to bf dc1, so I would say two months even though we would have been happier to concieve earlier. I would have loved not to have a period inbetween tbh.

dietcokeandwine · 13/09/2012 20:10

DC1 - took 3 months

DC2 - officially diagnosed with secondary infertility and in the end it took 3 years (had 2 MC during that time, went through 6 cycles of clomid and an IVF cycle was - eventually - successful)

DC3 (am currently 20w pg) - took 18 months in total, during which time we've had 2 failed IVF cycles and managed a miracle natural pregnancy the month before we were due to start a third and final IVF cycle before giving up.

Fingers crossed for you OP. Even though we conceived DC1 very easily and will (God willing all goes well with this pregnancy) eventually end up with 3 lovely DC, I will never, ever forget how hard it was to try to get pregnant and for it not to happen, month after month after month.

ForFoxsGlacierMints · 13/09/2012 20:18

4 yrs. Ended up having IVF with ICSI. Have a lovely DS now though. Good luck!

Secondsop · 13/09/2012 20:22

2 years first time (but I had an incredibly irregular cycle after removal of mirena coil) but that ended in miscarriage. Then, 5 months although DH and I were only in the same country for 3 of those so the actual time would have been shorter. Now 27 weeks with the second pregnancy.

PermanentlyOnEdge · 13/09/2012 20:24

Both mine happened straightaway. We were dickying around with the idea of it each time and were slightly more careless without really intending to have it happen just yet. So both were a shock. For some reason DP and I were too chicken to commit to the idea, it scared us so much. Yet there we were, both times, instantly pregnant. We don't take chances anymore.

Conflugenglugen · 13/09/2012 20:26

Almost immediately with DS. I was 35.

FatimaLovesBread · 13/09/2012 20:48

Ooh Congratulations Havealittlefaith!! Fab news GrinThanks

AgathaTrunchbull · 13/09/2012 20:51

Six months for us.

Spice17 · 13/09/2012 20:52

We started trying on 17th Dec last year and I got pregnant on 14th Jan.

As I'd never tested my fertility before I imagined it would take a while but it didn't and was a (lovely) surprise!

HaveALittleFaith · 13/09/2012 20:52

You too Fatima Grin Thanks
Still can't quite believe it. I'm waiting to get past my 8 week date thinking maybe it was a blip and I just missed a period?! despite the ranging sickness and tiredness, 11 positive tests etc! when are you due?

Happiestinwellybobs · 13/09/2012 20:58

After 10 1/2 years we haven't - but no longer want to after adopting our beautiful DD this year Grin.

A word of advice - don't worry what anyone thinks of you and your situation - it really is no one else's business but your own.
