Just curious really - DH and I have been TTC for 3 years in November (long story - fertility issue on his side which we knew about so we did expect this)

I know it's just the way it is, but every single person we know who has had a baby or is pregnant either had a surprise unplanned pregnancy or fell pregnant within a few months if trying.
Our latest friend to fall pregnant took 5 months which is the longest of anyone we know in RL.

It is a bit disheartening TBH especially because I think people are now starting to realise we are having problems as we have both always been openly broody, have a decent house and jobs, married for 2.5 years etc - from the outside it must seem like there is no reason for us to not have had a baby by now! Sad

I know it takes most couples a lot longer than a few months and we just must have a group of fertile friends!

So...how many months were you trying?....GO!

DD1, 3 months. 4 days after DH quit smoking.
DD2, about 2 months.
DS, first time! 2 days after having my copper coil removed.

javotte · 13/09/2012 16:08

DS was a surprise baby.
DD 2 months.
DC3 1st time.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 13/09/2012 16:11

Dd was a surprise
Ds was 6 months
Dc3 took 14 months and Fot my BFp on the day I was being referred for testing.

Fx things happen for you soon!

Aimeelou28 · 13/09/2012 16:15

It took us 6 months- for the last four of those, was using online ovulation calendar and timing sex about every two days in and around the fertile 'window'!

philbee · 13/09/2012 16:19

OP I'm sorry. It is hard and people always seem to be saying how surprised they were to get pg quickly, grr.

With DD it took 3 months. 2nd pg took 4 months but ended in a mc. I'm 10wks pg now and this time it took a year. First day of last period is a year to the day since I miscarried. I had also just got a fertility referral appointment, although initial tests normal. It sounds daft now but I had really started to accept that we'd have DD and that would be it.

I hope it happens for you soon. Lots of people do try for years and get pg.

DialMforMummy · 13/09/2012 16:24

DC1 6 mo
DC2 1mo
I hope it happens for you soon.

BirdyBedtime · 13/09/2012 16:24

With DD first time - I'd been off the pill for a few months but using protection as hadn't had a period - it was our anniversary so I thought what the hell? Second time with DS it took nearly 3 years although I did have Graves disease by that point and now realise I was bloody lucky to get pregnant at all. Good luck and I hope it happens for you soon.

Took us almost 3 years with DC1, but only 1 month with DC2!

StateofConfusion · 13/09/2012 16:32

Dc1 5mnths, dc2 6mnths dc3 4mnths

Kelerina · 13/09/2012 16:33

About three months after coming off the pill, we had a "what will be will be" attitude and weren't actively "trying" if you know what I mean. I was pretty shocked it happened so quickly. Good luck OP

StrangelyCalm · 13/09/2012 16:36

Stopped taking the pill over 4 yrs ago, have PCOS, now 34 and nearly 20 weeks pregnant! Big surprise as we weren't "trying" particularly, but just goes to show that it does happen. I felt the same as you OP a few years ago in that all our friends were popping out beautiful babies and having been married for about 6 years, people did ask me questions and it was hard to not embarrass them by saying we just didn't think it was possible. We decided kids maybe weren't for us (I didn't want any fertility treatment) so we got on with our lives, moved house, started a new business and were very happy when all of a sudden - bump!

All the very best to you OP and good luck - keep going, it will probably happen when you least expect it!

keepmoving · 13/09/2012 16:39

DC1 4 yrs DC2 1 night! Both naturally...

RedDevilBattery · 13/09/2012 16:40

Neither of my pregnancies were planned. Blush

JudithOfThePiece · 13/09/2012 16:47

DS - 6 months
DD - 12 months

My best friend took 9 months for her DS1 and 6 months for DS2. Another friend took 9 months for her DS. Another friend was just going for IVF when she fell pregnant with her DS1 and then took just 2 months to fall pg with DS2.

PeshwariNaan · 13/09/2012 16:55

Within 1.5 months. I was shocked it happened so fast - we're both 33.

PeshwariNaan · 13/09/2012 16:58

OP - my sister was in the same situation as you - they'd been married for 4 years, and it took them 3 to conceive. In fact they'd done everything except IVF (IUI, clomid, etc.) and were "taking a break" before considering it. In that break my nephew was conceived completely naturally! Boy, were they shocked and pleased. It does happen.

l3mma · 13/09/2012 16:58

1st time

starrystarrymole · 13/09/2012 17:08

Gosh, OP, bet you're thrilled with all these responses of "one night"- will really make you feel better Hmm

To redress balance somewhat;
4 years 10 months for dd1,
2 years 9 months for dd2.
Living proof it CAN happen eventually Grin
wishing you the very best of luck.

TheCountessOlenska · 13/09/2012 17:14

Takes me ages to get pregnant - 18 months first time, about 9 months second time! I know I never told anyone so everyone probably assumes I get pregnant when I want to - which is what I assume about everyone else Confused

PuffPants · 13/09/2012 17:21

5 months both times - second one ended at 6 wks unfortunately so we are back to square one Sad

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 13/09/2012 17:23

First time we weren't even trying so it has been a massive shock to have been trying for 3.5 years for %232 Sad

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 13/09/2012 17:23

Ok that should be number 2

weeblueberry · 13/09/2012 17:30

We stopped using contraception in January and I'm 6 weeks pregnant now. Oddly the month we did conceive was when we were both terribly sick and just wanted to cheer each other up. Blush

HaveALittleFaith · 13/09/2012 17:48

32 cycles! Started TTC one month after you. We had male factor infertility which fortunately was reversible. One year futile TTC, one year of tests/waiting lists, 8 months of treatment and voila, bfp! Easy Hmm No it was incredibly tough and has taken its toll. Even though I'm pregnant now we're having counselling because it had such an effect on our marriage.

Stats wise my GP said 80% couples conceive within 12 months, 90% within 18 months (so 50% of couples referred to the infertility service get their BFP whilst waiting to be seen). Have you have investigations?
