5 weeks pregnant - is everything ok?

Please could I ask your advice? I am 5 weeks pregnant with my fourth child but it feels quite different from the rest. I feel very pregnant. I feel as if I'm seven months pregnant! I can't bend over because it feels as if I have a big baby there!!! I have aches and pains on both sides of the abdomen. I'm tired and sleep in the afternoons. It burns when I urinate. What's going on?

Trip to epu? Any twins in your family? Grin

MrsShrek3 · 24/08/2012 00:26

Or are you absolutely sure of your dates - and could you be further on? (thus speaks someone who found out pg with dc3 at 14 weeks Blush )

TodaysAGoodDay · 24/08/2012 00:27

Are you sure you're only 5 weeks? Can you get an early scan?

My nephew's wife had 2 boys, then when she was pregnant for the third time with a girl (we now know) she felt entirely different. Could that be like you?

Anwen3 · 24/08/2012 00:29

I was in an epu a week ago and had a vaginal scan. They could find no evidence of a baby in the womb but then I was only 4 weeks so that was no surprise. So I definitely haven't been pregnant for longer than I think!

In terms of boys and girls, I have 2 girls and a boy already and didn't feel like this with any of them.

Uti? I'd go to the dr if you have burning when you pee.

Anwen3 · 24/08/2012 00:36

I'll go to the GP tomorrow. Still would be grateful for your comments, though.

I'm 5 weeks with my third and if I bend over I also feel like something is in the way. Not in a 7 months pregnant kind of way. But certainly more that 5 weeks. I feel it very very low down. I am sure of my dates as well. I just presumed it wasn't baby that I was feeling but general pregnantness, body remembering what it's done before and getting into action.

Saying that there are LOADS of twins in my family and also in my husbands so it wouldn't be that shocking. Scan in mid sept at 8 weeks so time will tell.

You've got me wondering now! Grin

TodaysAGoodDay · 24/08/2012 00:40

Don't really want to mention this, but it may possibly be an ectopic pregnancy?

Anwen3 · 24/08/2012 00:41

I'm a bit slow here.. but I don't see how it could mean twins. Because they're so small at this stage that I could be expecting a 100 of them and not feel them. Or is this really a sign of twins???!

Just re read about the burning when you go to the loo. Do go to the doctor in the morning but until then drink as much as you can.

Tempernillo · 24/08/2012 00:43

I had a uti in early pg and had to have an early scan as they were worried about an ectopic as the pain was on one side, but all was fine and then they dipped my urine and found I had an infection. Go to the gp with a urine sample.

Noqontrol · 24/08/2012 00:44

Go to the gp. The burning sounds like a uti. And drink plenty of water.

Want2bSupermum · 24/08/2012 00:47

The burning when your urinate sounds like a UTI. Get your OH to fetch at least 2 litres of cranberry juice and drink it all. After that drink as much water as you can - probably won't be able to drink much but keep the fluids going so you dilute your wee. As Stickybeans says you will need to see the doctor in the morning - 1st appointment.

If you have a temperature then go to A&E tonight because it will most probably be a UTI and you need antibiotics to treat it ASAP. It isn't good to have a temp above 103F (39.4C) in the 1st trimester.

Anwen3 · 24/08/2012 00:47

I'm also thinking that it might be an ectopic pregnancy but I don't feel any sharp pains really (other than once across the vulva strangely enough!). Is burning on urination (and sex come to that) a sign of ectopic pregnancy?

I promise, promise to go to the GP in the morning. And I will drink loads now.

Is there any connection at all between burning on urination and ectopic pregnancy?

OP posts:
Want2bSupermum · 24/08/2012 00:56

I don't know what an eptopic pregnancy feels like but I do know that sometimes your gut instinct tells you when something is wrong. If your gut is telling you that something is very wrong then go to A&E tonight and have them test your pee and give you a scan. Its a Thursday night and you are pregnant so I doubt they would keep you waiting for too long if you tell them you think it is an eptopic pregnancy.

Is there someone at home who can look after your DC's or someone who you could call to come around?

Tempernillo · 24/08/2012 01:04

The burning on urination as far more likely to be a uti! Symptoms of ectopic are pain and bleeding. Please don't worry yourself, but just get your wee dipped. Smile

Anwen3 · 24/08/2012 01:05

Unfortunately not, I can't leave the children tonight unless it's such an extreme situation that I wake the neighbours!!! And I really am not close to being in agony.

Ok, thanks. I'll leave it until the morning now. Thanks for all your comments. xxx

TodaysAGoodDay · 24/08/2012 01:13

yes unfortunately

Tempernillo · 24/08/2012 01:17

But, to be positive, I had one sided pain, burning on peeing, but turned out to have a normal full term pg and a uti and dd is now 20 months. Just get it checked ASAP. X

aufaniae · 24/08/2012 01:31

I could be an ectopic. If you're still up and on mumsnet, read Today's link and please at least call NHS direct.

*It not I!

Anwen3 · 24/08/2012 06:43

I jumped out of bed this morning and felt quite dizzy. I also have 'pain' at the tip of my shoulder... although actually it's not pain at all, just a strange feeling that makes me want to rub it. Now, this is psychological, isn't it??!

Don't worry, I will see someone about it this morning!! :-)
