I am rapidly approaching 42. TTC no.2 with MMC @ 10 weeks in March. Increasingly concerned that I might be out of time. Can you just post to say "me" if you're 42 and expecting? Apologies for sheer self-interest and thanks!

Not me, but my cousin has just had identical twins at 43. No previous DC, had several rounds of IVF which either failed completely or she miscarried, gave up, got a puppy and then got pregnant naturally with the twins a few months later.

Don't know if that helps?

Tittywhistles · 22/08/2012 15:27

I'll be 41 and a half when I give birth. DC4(!)

dollyindub · 22/08/2012 15:32

I'm 44 (that should give you hope!)and expecting PFB in 5 weeks. Concieved on NYE I think aged 43 and not 'trying' either...
Only realised how lucky I have been since getting pregnant and reading up a bit more on the stats etc. But don't lose hope because I think a lot of the stats are outdated now. Us women in our 40s are so much healthier, more active and generally 'younger' than we've ever been which translates to healthier eggs I think! To be honest I thought that ship had sailed for me and was reasonably content to have a life without a child, but now I'm delighted to be given this chance! BTW, a colleague had her first baby at the age of 46... Wishing you the best of luck!

Thanks one and all. Glad I self-indulged and good luck/congrats where appropriate!

I was 42 in May and am currently 25 weeks with my first. I conceived naturally 3 months after a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Good luck - it can be done. x

I was 42 recently and I'm expecting DC1 in January. We conceived naturally but it took over a year. Good luck, fingers crossed for you resipsa.

41 and expecting DD3 in November.

My first DD died at 26 weeks gestation due to severe pre-eclampsia and after that I had two miscarriages. I thought I was getting too old at that point and would never have a living child. However, I had a totally normal pregnancy at 39 years with DD2 and then concieved this DD3 on the first occasion we tried.

My conclusion: yes it is harder as you get older but its really still a big lottery. I hope you get lucky next time.

resipsa · 22/08/2012 20:29

You two Smile congrats!

Hi, me, me, me (only older)!! I'm 45, with only one remaining tube following an ectopic two years ago, and now 37 weeks pregnant. Had my first baby at 41. Wishing you all the luck in the world.

fidgetymidget · 22/08/2012 22:13

I am 42 and just found out I have a bun baking in the oven. Didn't try, just happened. OOPS. I thought I was all dried up, obviously not.

10000Fireflies · 22/08/2012 22:53

Me too!!! DS1 arrived 8 weeks ago. First every pregnancy. Thought it would never happen. x 2 failed IVF cycles, due to a blocked tube. Was investigating immune issues as failed at implantation, however conceived while tests ongoing. If you want advice and support the lovely ladies here will be with you all the way. You can follow the trials and tribulations of those who have been successful here.

Commiserations to all those who've suffered heartache on their TTC journey, and congrats to all those who've successfully carried babies to term in their 40s, and big congrats to all those currently upduffed. I agree with dolly - reckon the stats are way out of date now.

Good luck respipsa - I'm 43 now and hoping to conceive DC2 before long.

Hello, I'm 44 - had also all but given up hope of having a child but now DD1 is due in December. Delighted and constantly amazed my body seems to know what its doing. And she knows I am writing about her, kicking like crazy as I type. Its really good to hear about women a similar age, my boss keeps remarking on how so much can go wrong at my age. Most unpleasant.
