What did you get for your baby which you didn't really need, but which was still a brilliant buy? i have all the essentials from when DS was born but would like to get a couple of special things for the new baby.

We got a lambskin pushchair liner second time round and dd seems to like it. Keeps her warm in winter and cool in summer :)

OhBuggerandArse · 22/08/2012 14:52

TummyTub.

soandsosmum · 22/08/2012 14:52

I got a £35 handmade sock monkey! From sunshinegirl on etsy

GnocchiNineDoors · 22/08/2012 14:55

Blush Aden and Anais 4pack of muslin swaddling sheets.

Hairbrush - didnt think id need but use it every day

Doorway bouncer

WantAnOrange · 22/08/2012 14:55

I have bought her a gorgeous summer dress to wear on holiday next year. It's sky blue with beach huts and hot air balloons on it.

She's not due for another 7 weeks. Blush

WaitingForMe · 22/08/2012 14:56

I thought the cuddledry towel was possibly a bit daft but my mum and DH (two boys from previous relationship) declare it to be a genius idea.

Fisher Price Swing- put him to sleep every time Grin
Fisher Price Jumperoo- DS loves jumping in it :)

jaggythistle · 22/08/2012 15:05

new play gym thing (also fisher price Grin). DS1's was terribly impractical for a sicky baby so got DS2 who is even more sicky a machine washable thing! luckily he loves it so far so i don't look too nuts.

imustbepatient · 22/08/2012 15:31

Ziggy the zebra baby swing machine thing. The only thing our colicky DD1 would relax (or generally do her daytime sleeps!) in during the first couple of months. She loved it! Worth every penny.

MrsPaynie · 22/08/2012 15:34

The graco sweetpeace swing! Was an absolute godsend at 3am with a screaming baby that wouldn't sleep! And great for daytime naps too, and even more useful when DD came along as it meant she was high enough off the floor to be out of reach of DS and the dogs!

cansu · 22/08/2012 15:41

Playnest from GALT where baby sits or lies in middle when slightly older. Also bought baby playmat with toys that dangle over baby. It was very useful to keep baby settled for a few mins whilst taking shower etc.

DollFisher · 22/08/2012 15:59

great post! I jst googled tummmy tub and it looks so cute! I want one now!

Flosie1989 · 22/08/2012 16:12

Ewan the dream sheep is a must have for sending new babies to sleep! Cheaper on eBay than in the shops.

Funny story coming up......

You press the sheeps feet to play a sound. the other night I went to tend to DD as she was waking up, which usually I just press the sheep and she settles easily. Although as I was very tired and half asleep I pressed DD's hand instead! I realised what I'd done when Ewan never switched on!

turkeyboots · 22/08/2012 16:18

A really nice changing bag. I loved that bag and it cheered me up on regular occansions when I walked endless miles as DD would only sleep while the park was moving at fast walking pace.

turkeyboots · 22/08/2012 16:19

Pram was moving! Parks only move after too much wine.

ItsMyLastOne · 22/08/2012 16:25

This expensive bag but second hand!

buttercrumble · 22/08/2012 16:30

We got one of those expensive baby listening devices. We could hear baby crying from wherever we were in the house anyway, all that did was amplify the
Noise. It was complete waste of money.....

buttercrumble · 22/08/2012 16:32

Just read the question again. Ignore me must be having one of my many blond moments...

systemsaddict · 22/08/2012 16:35

Tummy tub here too, I got so much stick for spending money on 'an expensive bucket' but I was terrified of using a normal baby bath, it got constant use for years and is still in use now (dcs 4 and 6) as a bath toy store!

slatternlymother · 22/08/2012 16:40

Another vote for the fisher price Jumperoo Smile I had a very 'standy' baby iyswim so he was very happy in there.

SilverSixpence · 22/08/2012 16:45

I think a swing is definitely on the cards, anything that helps the baby get to sleep! The Sugarjack bags are lovely but don't think I could justify it!

I had a lovely pink lining changing bag OP. Cheaper, and lots on eBay!

SilverSixpence · 22/08/2012 16:50

Thanks, I had a Pink Lining bag too last time, might have a look at them again!

I liked Aden and Anais pack of animal muslins, so pretty - used these on top of bedsheet so I didn't have to change the sheet (usually) when ds was sick.
Isofix base for carseat - not essential but makes transfer of the car seat in and out of the car much quicker and less likely to wake a sleeping baby.
If your baby is a dribbler get Funky giraffe bibs, again pretty and will save continually changing tops.

PeazlyPops · 22/08/2012 16:53

A plastic bath support. My baby loves it and I don't have to bath him with just one hand!

Cup holder for the pushchair.

Fisher price swing. DS hated it at first, but now he loves it, and he naps in it.
