What did you get for your baby which you didn't really need, but which was still a brilliant buy? i have all the essentials from when DS was born but would like to get a couple of special things for the new baby.

Oo that sugar jack bag is LUSH!

NapaCab · 22/08/2012 17:42

Any soft, cuddly toys. DS couldn't care less about them and just flings them aside to climb up and get my mobile phone or keys or a plastic bottle or basically anything at all that is hard, unsuitable for babies and makes a lot of noise!

NapaCab · 22/08/2012 17:44

They were still a good buy because I love them and think they look cute, by the way...

bronze · 22/08/2012 17:46

Another for a swing (ds1on)

And a tummy tub

meala · 22/08/2012 17:47

A slumber bear. Cute and helped DC settle. I had the basic version but there are fancy ones around now too.

Jumperoo, the best thing ever. my DS loved it, i hope DD does too!

hzgreen · 22/08/2012 17:59

that wasn't meant to rhyme...

whenyouseeitwaveorcheer · 22/08/2012 18:08

A buggsnuggle

Didn't have one with DD1 and managed ok with the pushchair-specific foot muff that I bought for my Maclaren. But PIL gave us some money to buy DD2 a coat when she was about 6 months but she had all of DD1s hand me down coats so I bought this instead. DD2 is two now and still loves snuggling in it, even in summer it's a nice cosy place to nap.

minipie · 22/08/2012 19:35

glad to hear the endorsements of sleep sheep/slumber bear as I have just bought one!

thepeanutsparent · 22/08/2012 19:46

The Jumperoo is fantastic. I actually got mine from a bloke who was trying to give it to the charity shop. I saw them turn him down and pounced! Never would have bought one in a million years bit DS loves loves loves it, so glad we've got it now.

SilverSixpence · 23/08/2012 12:32

great suggestions everyone, the Aden and Anais muslins and baby swing are definitely on my list now. DH is cross that I started this thread Grin

i got the giant muslins much cheaper in tk maxx, they are great as summer sheets either for swaddling or for tucking in when its too hot for bedding. also good for nursing in public.

SilverSixpence · 29/08/2012 11:06

just bumping this thread as the Aden and Anais muslins etc are on Achica at 55% off at the moment! also use VCODES20 for £20 off £100 spend (if you spend that much Blush

Loving to see the positive comments about Tummy Tubs! (just received mine). Seriously trying to convince DP to get a lambskin liner too. Smile

projectg · 29/08/2012 13:41

Another vote for the Tummy Tub.

Was absolutely not going to spend money on a glorified bucket but DH thought they looked great and when I had no other ideas for a Father's Day present from the bump I decided that would do. We all loved it and have passed round to friends to borrow when they had their DCs.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 29/08/2012 13:52

The Tiny Love Sweet Symphony mobile. I didn't actually buy it - MIL lent it to us and when we gave it back to her, another GC broke it. Grrr. It was brilliant! I'll definitely buy another one when the time comes. Used to give me up to 40 mins to get ready/have a shower, while DD lay there, happily enthralled.

TheSurgeonsMate · 29/08/2012 14:00

Lamaze footfinders whch are like stripy socks with ladybirds on the ends. We bought these as a sort of joke on our first visit to Mothercare because we were overwhelmed and couldn't actually buy a single thing we needed.

The idea that she might not be able to find her feet tickled me no end and so we picked them up and stashed them away. They turned out to be a lovely bit of baby decoration which looked supercute and never failed to raise a smile or start a conversation when she was waving her feet around in her pram.

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 29/08/2012 14:02

Baby Bjorn bouncy chair. Expensive but brilliant for napping, bouncing, generally keeping baby safe while you make a cuppa or watch TV

fairimum · 29/08/2012 14:03

wooops just spent £87.50 (including delivery) at Achica - didn't help that i had ordered a couple of the Aden and Anais security muslins last week which arrived this morning and are gorgeous... woops!

SilverSixpence · 29/08/2012 17:05

glad it wasn't just me fairimum Grin

I just ordered 4 muslins as well. Then gave myself a talking to: am 8+4 and should not be getting carried away at this point, so didn't check out!

MrsJK · 29/08/2012 17:38

Swing
Jumperoo ( now he's older)
Sling to enable hands free time Smile

Impatientwino · 29/08/2012 18:53

iPad

Yes, seriously - has made night feeding much more bearable!!!

tittytittyhanghang · 29/08/2012 19:00

I got the Graco Sweet peace swing. Absolutely indulgent, and probably didn't do anything better that a cheaper swing couldn't do, but ds was in it every day till he was about 8 months and I only stopped cos he got too big for it!
