Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable.

I would like to thank MOH MOP Ovaltine Caramellokoalalover (I think she's changed her nickname) Fluffy, Horsey Kali and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

reebok started another thread yesturday (and i guided her over to here Wink a few lovely helpful people with MS telling her sitting down with ginger biscuits and working sitting in a comfy chair would help Hmm as it worked for them....)

she was pretty poorly yesturday based on her other thread, and i think planning on going to hospital today Sad

i vomit my breakfast every single day anyway, including last pregnancy, so its just how it is for me.... fun!

LucindaE · 02/12/2012 13:58

Nannyl I'm so glad you guided her over. How maddening, it is so annoying when people have no idea, and if she was ill enough to need IV she must have been feeling purely terrible. Did you vomit your breakfast right up to the end, that is horrible. I don't know which is worse, that or the bile run. The bile run hurts more, but it doesn't put you off any particular food.

Congratulations Kali! :)

Reebok · 03/12/2012 16:16

Hi all, I'm back. Went into a n e late sat night as I was vomiting blood. Kept me in, put me on a drip n drugs which don't seem to have done much because I got home an hour ago and am still throwing up. I don't know if I can do this!!!

MotherofPearl · 03/12/2012 16:37

Not to make light at all, but Reebok, it seems you're in good company. Just seen that the Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant and was admitted to hospital today with HG. Maybe this will finally put HG on the map, so to speak, and make people generally more aware of the true horror. I hope so.

LucindaE · 03/12/2012 17:24

Reebok Do make an emergency call to GP and say you are still puking after being admitted. Don't despair, this is the WORST of it, almost nobody suffers later on as they do in the first tri, but it is very hard to bear, I know. Sending you hugs, you poor thing, it's awful. We all feel we can't do it at some time. Try ice cubes or ice lollies if you can bear it.
That news about a royal person having Hyperemesis will certainly give it publicity. Though I am no royalist, I wouldn't wish this on anyone, but it will draw public attention to it as MOP says.

Just popping back in to see how you all are.

My nausea is better BUT I have moved on from just feeling sick all the time to actual vomiting...but when I'm not throwing up, I feel much better iyswim? Have cut back on the odansetron a bit as the constipation was awful.

Oh Reebok you poor darling. I'm so sorry! :(

Off to read last few pages.

Reebok · 03/12/2012 18:29

In the past hour, I've vomited 3 times. Going back to harass gp in morning. Stupid cyclizine is useless unless through an IV and they tried bucastom (or whatever it's called) through a pill. Made me feel worse. Of only it was possible to sleep through these 9 months. Feel sorry for Kate. Bad enough having it as a normal person let alone the whole world knowing your business.

Tay1981 · 03/12/2012 18:51

Agree poor Kate. BUT maybe something good will come out more public attention - a little more understanding maybe? Some research? We can only hope.

Reebok hassle away until you get the treatment you need - take someone with you to do the hassling if necessary. This is the truly horrible bit - it DOES get better hang in there. Take each hour at a time x

LucindaE · 03/12/2012 19:05

Reebok You poor poor thing, that is really awful and I don't think you should wait until morning, you'll be very dehydrated by then if your being sick every twenty minutes. Can you get back to A and E? There are other drugs they can try and for sure you need them. It is a nightmare, but it will pass. Kali whose just had her baby was at your stage, was in and out of hospital and wasn't sure she could go through with it, but now it's a nightmare memory.

so sorry to here you are suffering Reebok

yes we have all been there and it is just awful

Im getting very very annoyed as i keep seeing / hearing kate is in hospital for bad morning sickness...

UM NOOOO ITS HG.... ITS NOT MORNING SICKNESS, HG IS ITS OWN TRULEY AWFUL CONDITION

and breath.... i hope she feels better soon.

Reebok if you are still poorly you can admit yourself back by A&E. You WILL get through it, even if the light at the end of the tunnel doesnt appear to be shining right now, it will start glimmering soon XXX

ovaltine · 03/12/2012 21:58

Kali I pop on and you have just given birth amazing news!!!!! Just to say I am thinking of all of you suffering, lets hope HG gets proper awareness now poor Kate is suffering. Lucinda does such an amazing job supporting you all, I can't believe it will be 2 years ago next month I first came here at my wits end - nannyl I remember you on here then too! Congrats Smile gentle hugs for you all xx

nannyl · 03/12/2012 22:31

oooooh Im so cross

just watched ITV news

they pronounced hyperemisis wrong

and then said that kate will almost certainly be better within a week
she also might need some anti sickness drugs

OK... hand up...

HG sufferers.... who has been better within a week? (as the expert dr suggests most of us are?)

BarmeeMarmee · 04/12/2012 00:18

Nanny I was sent into a proper rant watching the news. It's infuriating! They'll be suggesting that all she needs is a couple of ginger biscuits next! Poor girl. And breathe...

Have been following the thread still although very little time to post-baby has a cold and a 3 weeks 3 days (where ha the time gone?!?!) is a very sad and sorry sight. Thinking of you all often though.

Tay1981 · 04/12/2012 04:39

I'm so cross too - I just read the Times and BBC articles both of which talk about small meals and ginger and avoiding stress. Honestly - would people really end up in hospital if it could all be resolved with a bloody ginger biscuit!!! When I heard about this morning I thought it might do some good awareness wise but seems media are just peddling the old myths.

Grrrr.

EMS23 · 04/12/2012 06:27

Hi, I just came on this thread to say how bloody infuriating this misreporting of HG, in relation to the Duchess is.
I've not suffered with HG but a good friend and colleague did last year for 17 weeks. Unfortunately I was also pregnant at the same time and covered her work during her absences but because I was lucky enough to be having an easy pregnancy I got lots of comments about how much 'better I was coping'.

It made me so angry on my friends behalf and I always tried to correct the morons who came out with this crap and explain that actually she was suffering from a very real and distressing condition.

But what can you do when the news do such crap reports on it and then wheel out an 'expert doctor' saying it will all pass in a week or so.

Apologies for the random rant and taking up space on your support thread. I wish you all the best with your pregnancies.

LucindaE · 04/12/2012 09:33

Reebok Are you in hospital, poor you?
Thanks, Ovaltine Xmas Blush.
I was irritated at the ginger and small meals comments, too. They have no idea.
I do feel for anyone with this, of course, but I think a royal will have access to rather mor prompt and better treatment than the average sufferer, and not be kept waiting for hours for a bed, as some on this thread have...

BLOODY GINGER BISCUITS?!?!!?!?!??!?! I bet no one suggested those to her!! I hope she speaks out about HG for all of us, wishing you the best Kate!

Nomorevom · 04/12/2012 12:21

Hi just got my bfp this morning and I'm terrified and really happy at the same time.

I have two dds one nine other nearly two and had extreme hg with both, I know it's early days and after having a mmc before I know things could go wrong.

What I would like help with is when should I approach Gp for anti sickness meds considering it will be over Xmas and new year the vomiting will kick in?

I have name changed as I don't want any one to know I'm pregnant yet, even though its really hard to hide the fact when you are throwing up in bushes on the school run!!

nannyl · 04/12/2012 13:29

no more vom

i am in my 2nd HG pregnancy.... i asked for meds at 6 weeks and was refused... as at that point i had bad MS not HG, and dr "refused to risk baby by prescribing me something for a condition i didnt actually have yet" (fair point)

i went back at 6+3 and was allowed them then

horseynewmum · 04/12/2012 13:29

Quickly popping on but ceongrats to all who have given birth. you will enjoy xmas dinner like i will this year.

Sorry to all current sufferers

now with kate getting HG hopefully we wont have to suffer in scilence anymore

LucindaE · 04/12/2012 13:34

Nomore Welcome, congratulations on your bfp, and I love the name! I think as our resident meds expert MOH would say, that a pre-emptive strike is the thing, do see if you can get an appointment with the GP asap for them as they work better it seems if the vomiting hasn't yet taken hold, and as you have suffered a lot before, they are much more likely to give them. Who knows, you might well escape with m/s this time, it does happen sometimes, happened to MaryLou242 on here. If you want advice about what to say - I don't expect, as you are a veteran, you do - sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/ MOH's website for wonderful meds advice. You've come to the right place, everyone is very supportive here, and I do so feel for anyone facing the puking possibly starting over the Christmas period...
Xmas Sad
Ovaltine You are right, at least there's awhole lot of publicity going on...

Hi guys, my doc is a twat! He said 'relax! The medicine will work slowly.' slowly my ass! I wanna smack him!

Lucinda, I will go back to a n e later if I get worse. Hoping I can sleep off these nine months. Only thing that seems to help. The hospital was awful. I was in a ward with elderly women using catheters and bedpans. Made me much more nauseous! The hospital had no gyno dept and only admitted me as an emergency. I tell u I'm definately not going back there again! All the nurses were like, oh yes I had morning sickness too but I avoided iV and drugs. Erm thats cos you had MS!!! Not hG!! And these are trained medical professionals??? Bloody idiots! Sorry for the rant! Just feeling frustrated at the lack of understanding from people.

Anyway had slight Vom due to acid reflux but so far so good...have managed a banana. Hoping it stays down. Haven't had a meal properly in about 2 weeks! Pls god let this stupid hG pass soon! 7+3 and counting!

LucindaE · 04/12/2012 14:10

Rebok My goodness,I'm glad the puking has eased off a bit, mother hen Lucinda always clucks and fusses (lol Freudian slip, I typed 'fluck' there) when someone is as ill as you were, but did it calm down in the night? No wonder you were good and mad with GP. That ward sounds awful - and the nurses, how ignorant Xmas Angry. What do they teach them? That makes it sound as if you didn't make desperate efforts to keep sipping fluids.
