Hi can anyone give us any positive outcome stories or further information?
I am currently 16 and half weeks pregnant.
My 12 week scan was all fine but 3 days later I was in A&E bleeding heavily :(
Was told there was no hope but had follow-up scan and baby was still alive but scan showed moderate bleed area. Have since had 4 more scans. Each seems to show further deterioration, by that I mean the bleed area became more extensive, leading to a collapse of the amniotic membrane around the baby. Todays scan showed blood in amniotic sac and reduced levels of amniotic fluid. Consultant says outlook is 'gloomy' but baby is still growing. Consultant also said this is vey unusual therefore difficult to give prognosis. My bleeding is much lighter as long as I rest lots. As soon as i do more (no lifting though) I have increased loss.
Please respond if you can give us any hope or have experienced sub-chorionic bleed (bleeding between the two uterine membranes), collapsed amniotic membrane or blood in amniotic fluid. Or if you experienced bleeding at this stage of pregnancy. If you had bleeding - how long did it take to resolve?
Sorry if I'm not being very clear. I've posted on a couple of other sites but got no responses which makes us feel there's not much hope.
many thanks
Ruth

hello Ruth and welcome to mumsnet
I am sorry that you are having such a difficult time at the moment
I have never heard of the situation you describe. I have experienced severe bleeding/threatened m/c in two pregnancies and gone to have healthy pregnancies and deliveries
hoping very much that there is a good outcome for you.
let us know what happens
all love, HC xx

really sorry to hear of all this, it must be very stressful for you. i had a difficult pregnancy with my first (dd is now 4). started bleeding at 6 weeks, had lots of scans and the placenta had torn away in one area. i was told to rest, as with you, the more i moved about, the more i bled, was at its worst in the morning, midwife said it pools during the night, so is always heavier when you get up. i bled off and on til 23 weeks, some days it was red, some days it went brown, the red again the next (also had an amnio due to being high risk for downs), then it just stopped, all of a sudden.

not quite the same thing that is happening to you, take care, resting is about all you can do at the moment. hopefully other mnetters can also offer more advice/experiences that will help.

No experience of this just wanted to send you some well-wishes and bump the thread up the list

LadyTophamHatt · 06/03/2006 20:08

I can't help either Ruth but wanted to keep this up near the top for you.

Good luck.

Filyjonk · 06/03/2006 20:12

Juat bumping thread really. Had lots of bleeding with dd but that was something different, so not much help. Hoping someone comes along with experience...Mumsnet is huge, there must be someone.

haven't had this experience but wanted to say thinking of you and hope you have improved a little and/or have some answers.

riley3 · 08/03/2006 00:54

Ruthlouise - I am with you in spirit. I have been bleeding and cramping since Sunday and am nearly 11 weeks. Going for a scan on Thursday but feel there is very little hope. Sad

Please stay in touch - I am getting so much support from my Oct 06 antenatal thread - it does help to hear what others are going through and you never know - maybe it will be ok for one or both of us....

m4ya · 08/03/2006 01:40

Hi Ruth,
I hope things wll get better for you, I have no experience personally but my aunt had the same sort of problem and she was told to get complete bed rest from when she was 8 weeks pregnant. She went onto have a healthy boy. I dont know if it was the same problem but hope this will give you hope! Stay positive! Wishing you the best of Luck. Thinking of you! Smile

Thank you to everyone who has helped keep the profile of this thread high by kindly 'bumping' it up.

I've only just joined mumsnet and have been surprised how active and supportive it is - it really is such an encouragement to us.

And a big thank you to those of you who have shared your experiences.

A message for Riley3:
I hope your cramping stops soon. I had cramping with the bleeding when I went to A&E but it stopped after a while. We were told there was no hope at the A&E and it was suggested that I had a d&C as the haemorrhaging was so extensive. But I refused to be admitted for it until I had a scan to confirm that baby hadn't made it. As it was a Sunday, we had to wait to the Monday. On the Tuesday, my GP rang offering his condolences as he'd just seen the A&E report!
I hope your scan result is positive and if so you are able to take the opportunity to bedrest as much as possible. Do keep in touch and let us know how today went.
Take care - am thinking of you

Thanks again
love Ruth

Ruthlouise - my news is sad. Had a scan today and sac was empty (which in a way makes it easier to deal with emotionally). So my miscarriage will continue. We will probably try again in due course.

Passing all my luck to you!

ruthlouise · 09/03/2006 19:54

Oh Riley3,
I'm so sorry. I know everytime I lay on the bed to be scanned I feel sick for fear of what they might say. How awful it must have been for you. I'm assuming an empty sac means you are spared an eprc - perhaps a small comfort in the face of your sad loss?

Thank you for mentioning the Oct 06 antenatal thread. I'm new to mumsnet and just finding my way round so as a result of you mentioning the Oct 06 group I found the Aug 06 one.

I hope you find the strength to try again and have a positive outcome.Take care

My next scan is a week Monday.

Love and hugs
Ruth

Ruthlouise, I had a sub-chorionic haematoma which showed up as an area of blood in scans. Bled throughout the first trimester. Started from 6 weeks but resolved itself by the end of the first trimester. The bleed area grew and I even had a heavy bleed one day (filled more than one pad an hour, which I thought was IT), but the scan was fine and showed that the area of blood had grown. Was very worried but suddenly resolved itself at around 13 weeks.

I was not at the same stage of pregnancy as you but hopefully this post helps. >

ruthlouise · 09/03/2006 20:34

Hi blueshoes,
aargh! sorry, typo - i meant to type that I had a 'sub-amnionic bleed'. Think its 'cos I did so much internet research and kept coming up with sub-chorionic as sub- amnionic is very rare.

We hope, pray, keep everything crossed etc that bleeding will resolve itself too. With the collapsed amnion we fear a premature rupture of the membrane as baby gets bigger/more active. We also need the low levels of amniotic fluid to resolve (am drinking like a fish at the mo as I hear this might make a difference).

We'd love to hear from someone who had a successful outcome with a collapsed amnion but think this is much rarer even than sub-amnionic haemotima. I think our bay really has survived against all odds at present.

We only found one research website which spoke about collapsed / unfused amnions being connected to chromosomal abnormalities but these have already been ruled out in our case - it was the sheer size of the haemorrhage between the chorion and amnion which caused the membrane to collapse.

I know nothing about this RuthLouise but I just wanted to say welcome to Mumsnet - it really is a magical place for friendship and ulfaltering support. Thinking of you and hoping for the best outcome possible x

blueshoes · 09/03/2006 21:46

Hi ruthlouise, are you getting sufficient support/advice from your hospital? If your consultant can't give you a prognosis, can he refer you to someone who is more experienced in this area, bearing in mind how rare it is? I would push for a referral - in the NHS, squeaky wheel gets the grease. I hope you get more answers soon.
