How long did your sickness last?

I'm only curious because I'm only just 6+3 but already I am feeling a faint but ever-present lingering nausea. It gets stronger and weaker throughout the days (started feeling like this about a week ago), and I just wondered how long it lasted? Haven't thrown up yet but feeling sick all day (morning sickness? Try 24/7 sickness!!) is far from pleasant, especially when we're not planning on telling people til 10-12 weeks.

Also, am going on holiday in four weeks time and really hoping I'm not going to be feeling too sick to enjoy myself :(

I hate to tell you but I was sick all the way through, the worst was 8-20 weeks, but still was being sick several times daily all the way through.

Friends haven't been the same though, most of them have felt better somewhere between 12-16 weeks so you might only have a month or two left.

WhereMyMilk · 14/07/2012 20:19

Also till baby came out :( Sorry.

phoenixrose314 · 14/07/2012 20:19

Ha! I was going to say 41 weeks 2 days but I was beaten to it! This time though, its fading a bit at 16 weeks.

SimplySoo · 14/07/2012 20:21

Until about 14 weeks, sorry.but I found ways of coping, eating little and often, eating what I could manage to keep down, not being afraid of being sick (sometimes it actually made me feel better).tiredness made it worse too.

lagartija · 14/07/2012 20:22

16 wks with DS and all the way through with DD but was Hyperemesis so not normal MS. Most people feel better by 12 wks. HG is often early onset and gets v bad v fast.

SpottyTeacakes · 14/07/2012 20:24

16 weeks and having more good days than bad. I went on holiday at nine weeks though and felt better than ever!

StBoniface · 14/07/2012 20:28

I was prescribed tablets for HG and they did help reduce how often I was sick but didn't stop it at all and didn't take away the nausea. If it gets bad and doesn't stop make sure you ask for help, I wish I had seen the GP earlier about it. I just thought what I was experiencing was normal but it really wasn't.

MrsReiver · 14/07/2012 20:29

With DS it cleared about about 32 weeks and the little bugger was born at 34 weeks. 2 vomit free weeks.

However today I am 7+3 and it's definitely improving, so fingers crossed yours doesn't last too much longer.

gardenpixies32 · 14/07/2012 20:34

16 weeks but have been sick a couple of times at around 22 weeks.

Loislane78 · 14/07/2012 20:37

14 wks - ate my way through it, little and often or else it was terrible, even worse than when you don't want to eat anything and smells make you retch

newbielisa · 14/07/2012 20:38

1st pregnancy 14 weeks, this one 18 weeks but can still have a good old retch if I go too long without eating. Don't tell anyone but I've found the perfect solution for me is a quick swig of Coke, not the diet stuff. It's the sugar and the bubbles it always helps me immediately.

So my sickness is better and now the heartburn has kicked in....aaah pregnancy

GrandPoohBah · 14/07/2012 22:54

From around wk 6 to about 16wks. I had one week at 12wks where I felt better, then the 24/7 nausea came back. I wasn't actually sick, I just felt ill constantly instead. The tiredness eased off at about 18wks.

From 15wks I've been getting heartburn though, and at 20+1 my sciatica is noticeably worse than it was before pregnancy... Having said that, I'm still grateful that I'm not feeling so unwell!

sammyleh · 14/07/2012 23:01

I stopped at about 14 weeks but then every now and then the acid reflux came back... nowhere near as hideous as the first trimester sickness but still there. Never actually threw up much, just the feeling of 'is it coming? isn't it coming?'

SweetPea3 · 14/07/2012 23:03

18 weeks. It really sucks...

phoenixrose314 · 15/07/2012 07:20

Oh jeez. I have no idea how I'm supposed to go on holiday with my parents in a month's time and not have them find out!!!!

SpottyTeacakes · 15/07/2012 07:22

Where are you going? I honestly had no sickness on holiday it was amazing! This morning however......

WestWinger · 15/07/2012 07:27

I was about 20 weeks with both pregnancies :-( but it did get more manageable from about 14 weeks. I was only actually sick 3 times with my first and 2 with my second, so it wouldn't have been impossible to hide from others. I just had to have quite plain food very regularly. You could say you have a viral infection or something and that is why you are under the weather....

Hope you have a lovely holiday and the nausea doesn't spoil it.

EmilieFloge · 15/07/2012 09:18

I'm 15 weeks with my third and although it is starting to ease up, I am still sitting here conscious that I could gag at any moment. This feeling comes and goes, and if I am busy or out somewhere it usually is manageable - but it is only in the last week that I have been able to get out of bed and DO things around the house, because I've been really tired and feeling really awful so there seemed no point in even trying.

Sorry OP... there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't stop feeling sick at 9, 10, 11 or 12 weeks as a lot of people do. But bear in mind that it may not be over before your holiday and that might make it a bit stressful if you are under pressure to keep it quiet.

My other pregnancies were similar btw, I think I'm unlucky! Smile But at least it tends to stop for me around 18-20 weeks and yes, it does get a bit easier to manage at about 14 x

EmilieFloge · 15/07/2012 09:20

Just a point about meds...you can buy phenergan over the counter, for travel sickness, it's about a fiver - that's the first thing most doctors prescribe people if they give you anything at all. It's an antihistamine so it can help a bit with the nausea. Worth a try if you get desperate.

Thechick · 15/07/2012 12:46

Mine stopped at about 10 weeks, wasn't ever actually sick. I had a couple of days of really really bad nausea but had food aversions till about 15 weeks. With my first I felt a bit neasous but water made it go away. Everyone is so different and so is every pregnancy it could all be over at anytime.

GizzyBoo · 15/07/2012 13:35

Mine lessened a lot at 10 weeks and was gone completely by 12 weeks so there is hope Smile

The tiredness on the other hand Shock

Bazzle · 15/07/2012 13:38

Worse point for me was weeks 9/10 then started feeling significantly better at 12 weeks and it was 100% gone by 14 weeks. I think this is a more textbook case and people who have sickness continue after about 14 weeks is rare x

itdoesnthurttohavemanners · 15/07/2012 13:38

16 weeks...felt like the worst ever hangover I've ever had..lasted all day...every day...for every one of those 16 weeks! EVIL.

However, now at 23 weeks I feel great! So hang on in there! :D

AllIWant85 · 15/07/2012 14:09

39+1 today and still throwing up :(

Weeks 4-18 were horrendous, weeks 19-26 were a little better, weeks 27-35 steadily got worse and weeks 36 until now have been grim.

If I could just be sick in the morning and get on with my day it wouldn't be so bad, it's the constant nausea which I find so depressing.
