as of a few hours ago i felt a little "wet" in my knickers, i went to check and i have some discharge which is really watery and clear. changed my knickers and again a small amount of watery stuff. could this be amniotic fluid leaking? im worried but i dont want to call hubby away from work to go get checked incase its just nothing and im being silly..
i know it can be dangerous for baby but is this perhaps just discharge?? i also have some dull pain in my lower back which is sort of radiating down my right thigh, please someone put my mind at ease a little?? thank you

This happened to me, and I put it down to sweating.

It wasn't I was leaking amnio fluids, you have to go to the hospital about this. I left it too long and baby was cramped into too little fluid, it was dangerous.

They might connect you to a drip, your fluids can replenish if needs be, and even small tears in the sack can repair but it definitely is something you have to bring to the attention of your medical supervisors.

Mollydoggerson · 03/07/2012 15:10

How many weeks are you?

I thought the amnio fluid smelled slightly sweet, is there a slight smell?

agoodman · 03/07/2012 15:13

im 39 weeks, ok im scared now.. i did try to smell it but it didnt smell bad or anything and definaltley didnt smell like urine, its not a huge amount but could it still be my waters if its not a big damp patch?? thanks so much girls..x

sorry if this sounds horrible, but i have had discharge which is normal but the watery stuff has some of the normal white thicker discharge in the middle, so my normal stuff is surrounded by watery stuff if that makes sense..

No need to worry at 39 weeks!

agoodman · 03/07/2012 15:16

oh i know im not worried because baby wouldnt be ready, worried because i know infection can happen if you are leaking? x

39 weeks I'm sure is fine, if you were 16 weeks or something it'd be different.

Hervana · 03/07/2012 15:18

It may be the start of labour I think you should really call your midwife

Good luck!

DanyTargaryen · 03/07/2012 15:19

infection only will happen if all waters go and its been over 24 hours. If you are worried call your midwife for reassurance. x

Mollydoggerson · 03/07/2012 15:19

It could be your waters, it's possible for a little tear to develop (miniscule) and for the waters to drain extremely slowly. Now don't get panicked by that, anything from 4-10 pints of amniotic fluid around baby is normal. I was down to 2.5 pints when mine was noticed by the medics, I had been leaking for weeks. Stupid I know, but I was putting it down to discharge/sweating as literally my knickers were only a little damp all the time. I never felt a trickle or anything just noticed dampness and felt silly to ask, as I thought maybe it was normal (extra sweating etc).

At any rate if you have just noticed this, do not worry at all, but do arrange to get yourself checked as soon as convenient. Perhaps this evening when your partner is home. I'm sure it is absolutely fine, it could be the start of a slow labour (best type - give your body time to get ready), So you might have those niggly pains for a few days before anything starts. Maybe just give your GP a call and let them know.

MummysLittleSunbeams · 03/07/2012 15:19

I bet you have your baby by this time tomorrow! This happened to me with dd1. Leaking amino the day before, full blown labour the next day.

Good luck!

DanyTargaryen · 03/07/2012 15:19

well there will only be chance of infection in those circumstances rather.

surfmama · 03/07/2012 15:20

i had this allot and went in for tests, had intenal and scan of fluid levels... It wasn't must have been watery discharge, like you wet patch around normal discharge. my waters did go without labour in the end though! anyway, pop along to your hosi and get it checked out x

redwineattheweekend · 03/07/2012 15:20

Infection can happen, best go to hospital, they can check if waters have gone or not. At 39 weeks not really a problem. Infection can happen, but they can give you antibiotics for that, as you're so close to due date they may not bother as you may go into labour soon. Call the hospital.

MousyMouse · 03/07/2012 15:20

could be your waters.
have you had a sniff? does it smell sweetly, of baby?
go and get checked out and take your bag.

agoodman · 03/07/2012 15:22

ok, thanks so much molly i think ill give him a wee call and see if he can get away a little earlier and ill phone triage and see if they want to see me, its probably nothing but its just new from what i have been getting, i have had a few symptoms this week which makes me think something could be about to happen, what will they do molly? will they examine me to see if my waters have broke? or do i need to take my knickers in? :/ xx

viagrafalls · 03/07/2012 15:23

I think waters! Those pains sound like early contractions too! (call the midwife)
Good luck!

viagrafalls · 03/07/2012 15:23

take knickers in and get your bag ready as well x

Mollydoggerson · 03/07/2012 15:29

They might scan you and calculate how much water is around baby.

The might also get this penis shaped object (small utensil) and put some gel on the top of it, and give you an internal scan with it. Basically the gel turns colour if it comes into contact with Amnio fluid. If there is fluid, they know you are leaking and they will decide what to do from there. Probably monitor you if fluid levels are ok.

They wil also put a trace on your tummy to see if mild contractions are starting.

You will be in safe hands in hospital.

Please update us. I feel very excited for you.
