Hello all... I went for my 20week scan today and everything looks fine ..Hurray!!! :)
I asked about the sex of the baby and the radiographer said it was really difficult to see but she thinks it's a girl ..but she's only 75% certain ..is this certain enough to start buying girly things d'you think? I've heard stories about people being told at the scan they were having a girl and then giving birth to a boy ...anyone got any experience/comments to add?

Nbg ...we are going to have a scan at 28 weeks too so I'll ask again then :) ..99% is pretty sure - did he say why he was so certain?

yeah with all three they have showed me the bits of the baby for quite a long time !!! I like to be able to see for myself TBH even if you didnt want to know the sex you would have been able to tell from DS1 as they were all over him

this one she pointed out the lines and showed me straight between the legs

Thanks Izzybiz you have put my mind at rest I know it sounds bad but I am trying not to get to excited as I have 2 boys I thought I would have a 3 boy but now the carrot has been dangled that it may be a girl I am so excited about it I suppose its because I get to buy other clothes and different toys!!

Hi Elf ..its funny I'm still referring to this bump as 'him' despite the 75% chance that he is a she :)
Mind you I have a female cat that I refer to as'him' as well

sniff, having a girl after 2 DSs is a culture shock, I can tell you! All those new foldy bits at nappy change time...! All that pink. I'm dreading Barnie and My Sodding Little Pony.

AggiePanther · 01/03/2006 20:12

Barney is the devil's own contribution to kids TV ...why dyou think he's just for girls though??

SoupDragon · 01/03/2006 20:13

You're right abuot Barney but I actually meant to type Barbie :o lol

Have a baby dragon draped over one arm so typing one handed!

AggiePanther · 01/03/2006 20:21

Lol ...Barbie didn't get to me nearly as much as Barney with DD when she was little..we used to have about 12 of them that (for some reason) used to live in the bathroom..DP and I used to entertain each other by leaving them in amusing positions that were highly entertaining for us but way over DDs head :)

Ooh hope I don't give this baby a gender identity complex by referring to 'it' as a 'he' rather than 'she' - dyou think he/she/it will know?

Hi there,

We were told at our 20 week scan that we were having a girl. I had also had a gut feeling that I was having a boy. Turned out I was right!

Hold off on the pink buying for now. As a pp said you will get lots of the 'right' colour pressies and have plenty of time to go shopping too :)

Friends of ours told everybody their son's name months before he was born last year. And out came a little girl! Shock

Don't know what they were looking at on the scan.

AggiePanther · 02/03/2006 13:18

Wow ..3 stories of mistaken identity in a row ..any more?
Pickleumphus and jura ...how sure were they at your scan??

you lot are making me nervous I can see an appointment with babybond coming on soon!!!!!

your right about all the pink and my little pony friends and mom and sister have already started buying stuff but it can.t be half as irittating as constantly treading on lego with bare feet watching Thomas the tank and joining him back together can it please all I seem to do is pick up bits of plastic and replace batteries at the moment

AggiePanther · 02/03/2006 13:51

sniff ..believe me its no different with a girl ..they're just different bits of plastic! BTW whats babybond?

Just found this thread again!
To answer your earlier question, I guess as it was a private scan he didn't have to rush things. We were there over an hour and dd was being particularly good that day, so no sudden movements or turning alot. He got a good look.
He also did another check of all the organs and things and made another comment about how good her bones looked?

AggiePanther · 02/03/2006 14:06

Nbg - in my scan she showed me all the bits apart from the girly or boy bits ..tsk!

i know of a case where at delivery a midwife got the sex of the baby wrong!!!! it happened at the hospital i work in and was in the national papers! the midwife is an experienced midwife (20 years+), but the dad shouted out oh its a boy and 6 hours later when they changed the nappy they realised it wasn't a boy!! Shock

vickiyumyum · 02/03/2006 14:17

oh and on the basis of this thread i have stopped buying anything specifically girly now, as now v worried that both my scans have got it wrong.

AggiePanther · 02/03/2006 14:48

Oops sorry vickyumyum ..didn't mean to worry anyone :) it was just the 75% bit that got me at my scan ..I'm sure if they said they were really certain then they'd be unlikely to be wrong

I know someone who was told at their (20 week ?) scan they were expecting a girl only to have a boy pop out 21 weeks later.

thats ok ap! was always going to have my doubts anyway as have 2 ds already and assumed this would be a boy too, i had hoped that should we have another one it would be a girl and a girl still would be the icing on the cake so to speak, but wouldn't really mind either way.

rebecca24 · 02/03/2006 20:16

Shock I had a scan done at 19 week's and asked what the sex of the baby was, there was a doctor and a nurse there who both confirmed it was a boy! They even pointed out how they could tell!!!! So i went off and bought alod of boy's thing's and even picked his name. So when i gave birth to a beautifull girl i got a huge surprise and was just soo happy i had a healty little baby.
