Oh poor you Mootoo
Can I ask is it bright red or brown?

flashingnosethefrond · 23/02/2006 13:11

Do both. Phone your doctor (and don't be fobbed off with the receptionist) and lie down and try and keep as calm as you can. If you have other kids, can anyone else have them for a bit. It will be fine, i;m sure, but best to get advice as soon as you can.

mootoo · 23/02/2006 13:13

More brown than red

AM i over reacting? It was just a little bit, or should i be worried?

Keep calm, nothing that you do will now will affect what happens. It could be nothing, spotting happens in pregnancy, but best to get it checked out.

If you can't get anyone to look after your kids, take them to the docs with you, I used to! The nurse would look after them whilst the doc examined me!

Let us know how you go on.

Bella23 · 23/02/2006 13:22

mmmm.....don't want to be alarmist as am not a medical person but this is what I had last time I m/c. I really would phone your Dr asap and demand to go to somewhere for an scan today.

How are the rest of your pregnancy symptoms - are your boobs still sore / look different etc?

Mootoo - hold on the fact that there are lots of people on here who have seen a bit of blood and then everything has turned out well.

bunny3 · 23/02/2006 13:24

mootoo, i had this in both pregnancies - it was really terrifying at the time and I needed lots of reassurance that all was ok. It was all fine in the end.

Rhubarb · 23/02/2006 13:25

Yup, it's common apparently. It could be a sign of a m/c but then again it might not be. Is it around the time when your period would be due anyway?

Brown blood just means old blood.

Your GP should examine you and if needs be, they will refer you for a scan. You'll be due a 12wk one anyway. Have a cup of tea!

lucykate · 23/02/2006 13:30

if you have a scan tomorrow, i would rest until then and try not to worry, its very common, particularly brown blood. but if it gets worse before then, or if you get any pain with it, contact your gp straight away. i bled with dd until 23weeks, both brown and red, she's now 4 but it was a very stressful time when it was happening.

HandbagAddiction · 23/02/2006 13:32

I have twice had an episode of bleeding with this pregnancy - bright red and only seen when wiping having been to the loo. One was at 7 weeks and the other at 15 weeks. As some of the others have said, for some people the odd bit of bleeding can be perfectly normal - however, for others it is unfortunately not normal and some people miscarry. Until you get yourself checked out though, you will unfortunately not know whether there is anything for you to worry about or not.

Given that you already have a scan booked for tomorrow - if you can hang on, then I would wait until then to get things checked out...as your EPU may struggle to get you an earlier appointment. However, you should also feel able to raise it with your GP. At this stage, he'll ne unlikely to do anything apart from tell you to rest up and wait for your scan - and I'm pretty sure that 12 weeks is too early for the sonicaid heart monitors that most GP surgeries have to pick up.

Turns out in my case that I have a low lying placenta which is more than likely the reason for the bleeding I had. I'm now 27 weeks and everything is going well.

REally hope that's it's nothing to worry about and your scan tomorrow is able to reassure you.

Turns out I have a low lying placenta which

mootoo · 23/02/2006 13:34

Thanks for all your support - i just phoned the midwife, who said rest and more rest, so dh is on his way home from work to look after dd. My scan is tomorrow anyway so i guess it is just wait and see. It is so scary.

please post tomorrow after your scan and let us know how you are, i'm sure it'll be ok,

magnolia1 · 23/02/2006 13:50

Hugs to you xxxx

I had bleeding in all my pregnancies, with dd1 I had huge amount of heavy bleeding at 12 weeks and was positive it was a miscarraige. dd4 is now 10

I had spotting for the 1st 16 weeks with the twins and the first few months with dd4 and they are all fine

Let us know how you get on xxx

lanismum · 23/02/2006 14:14

mootoo- i had this with my dd, think i was about 10 weeksish, i was absolutly terrified i was going to m/c, it was just as you described, a small amount of brown blood (sorry, tmi!) i didnt get a scan till i was 12 weeks and thankfully everything was fine and shes now 11 months, i know its still scary but at least you wont have to wait for weeks for yor scan, i really hope all is well tomorrow.

cori · 23/02/2006 14:21

The GP wont dont anything, if the blood is brown it means it is old. Examining you today probably wont tell you anything. Call the hospital and tell them what has happened, but I would expect as you are already booked in for tomorrow they wont bring you in any earlier at this stage.

FirstNikki · 23/02/2006 14:24

Mootoo I know just how scary this all is, go rest and its fab your dh is coming home to help. Best of luck at the scan I will check in tomo to see how you got on. Best of Luck.

jinglybits · 23/02/2006 14:25

hugs. i had this at roughly 12 weeks, for about 3days, although a small amount. brown blood means old blood so i think thats more reassuring than a brighter red. my pregnancy progressed without problems. luckily your scan is tomorrow so that will i'm sure reassure you all is well. hugs

HandbagAddiction · 24/02/2006 12:53

Mootoo - how did your scan go today? Hope everything has worked out for you. Do let us know how you are.

mootoo · 24/02/2006 17:39

Thanks for all your words of support. Unfortunately the scan showed a missed miscarriage - my baby stopped growing at 7 weeks for one reason or another, so i have to have a d &c next week unless nature takes over. Thanks again - you were all a great comfort to me yesterday.

cupcakes · 24/02/2006 17:45

Oh, I'm really sorry. How sad, just when you probably thought you had got to the safe stage.
Hope you are ok.

minicheddar · 24/02/2006 17:47

Hi Mootoo, I'm waiting to hear as well because exactly the same thing was happening to me. I'm 11 wks, first pregnancy and up until now have had no bleeding apart from at implantation (I assume). I also panicked but spoke to midwife this morning who said unless it got worse accompanied by bad cramps, not to worry.
My scan isn't until 7th March so I would love to hear how yours went. All good I hope.

minicheddar · 24/02/2006 17:50

Oh no I've just seen your message Mootoo, that's exactly what I'm dreading, I'm so so sorry. Really hope you'll be ok, I'll be thinking of you.

HandbagAddiction · 24/02/2006 17:52

Mootoo - so sorry to hear about what has happened . Thanks for letting us know and please do look after yourself in the next few days and weeks.

HellKat · 24/02/2006 17:55

Bleeding is'nt normal but it's common iykwim. I bled for the first 7 wks of this pg (I'm 11 wks) and everything turned out to be ok (still deemed as high risk though). I've also had 4 mc's.
Bleeding no matter what colour is dodgy, especially if coupled with pain. But sometimes it turns out to be ok aswell. Tbh my advice for anyone that's bleeding is to keep an open mind and be prepared for both good & bad news.
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}} to anyone experiencing this, it's awful, frightening and takes the joy away from being pg.
