I've had a pain in my side and a cramp in most of my leg all day the pain in my side is more towards my left hip.

Specially didnt help when I googled and it said that if you have an ectopic you get pain around sixth week, which i am.

The pain is not THAT strong but then again Ive never had one so how would i know i was having one.

Calm me down!!

I imagine the odds are like 99.5% that you just have an ordinary leg cramp type thing, but maybe logic isn't called for.
Does it get better or worse if you go for a walk?

DanyTargaryen · 10/06/2012 19:38

It was better earlier when I was walking round at MILs yes. The leg cramp isnt worrying me too much but it is the same side as the leg that im having at the moment, it starts at left hip and goes down leg.

I am being totally paranoid arent i?

I had loads of weird cramps, shooting and stabbing pains between 6-10 weeks and all is fine at 13 weeks, so don't worry unduly, but phone midwife with your questions/concerns. If pain gets worse or you have watery prune juice bleeding call the doc - or go to A&E - immediately.

(I'm not a doc and haven't had ectopic btw but had worries due to pain same as you).

DanyTargaryen · 10/06/2012 19:39

there is a sort of dull ache round the whole tummy area which is worrying me also

Hello DanyTargaryen,

The best thing you could do is telephone your out of hours GP/NHS direct. Try not to worry, symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are lower abdominal cramping usually one sided, can sometimes be accompanied with shoulder tip pain, spotting/bleeding, dizziness (usually dark coloured blood). I conceived with my coil in place and had to wait a whole weekend before being scanned. I had symptoms all weekend and didn't sleep! Turned out it was my coil digging in my cervix (thankfully it's been safely removed and i'm now 16 weeks with a little bean). It doesn't sound like you're having ectopic symptoms-more like uterus growth :)

Don't worry xx

fizzymoon · 10/06/2012 19:43

PS when i say cramping - the nurse said it is very severe. Usually doubling you over in pain.

Mozza1 · 10/06/2012 20:22

Try not to worry. I felt exactly the same at 5 weeks, abdominal pain, felt feverish and even had shoulder pain. Ended up going to A&E where they booked me in for a scan the next day. All was fine and the doctor actually said he'd been told I was bleeding (which I wasn't) and that was the only reason they sent me for a scan! I'd worked myself up into such a state I think that's what was causing everything!Blush

Still have the abdominal pain plus horrible bloating and I'm now 12 weeks.

It seems that bleeding red blood is the thing to watch for so if you get that then worth getting checked out. But even then not necessarily bad. However if you do carry on worrying then find out if there's an early pregnancy unit in a hospital near you and give them a call.

Hope that helps.Smile

At 5 weeks I thought my pregnancy was ectopic.

I went to A&E, they scanned me, it was fine.

If you really are worried I would get it checked out and put your mind at rest.

DanyTargaryen · 10/06/2012 20:43

Its freaking me out only because this is 2nd pregnancy and I don't remember having this sort of pain with my first x

OP posts:
DanyTargaryen · 10/06/2012 20:44

But yeah all I am getting is the pain where I described. No bleeding, dizziness etc.

OP posts:
DameHermione · 10/06/2012 20:48

Trust your instincts.

Chances are its normal stretching and crampy pain.

I had a vague mild niggle. No bleeding. No shoulder pain. Just a weird sixth sense. Was ectopic. Cal NHS direct or go to A&E.

ForFoxsGlacierMints · 10/06/2012 20:58

I don't mean to freak you out unnecessarily but I had a pain in my side as you describe, no other symptoms at all. Went to A&E, got told it was probably ligament pain and sent home. All was good for a fortnight till my tube burst in Boots on my lunch break.

Please, please get it checked and make sure they scan you.

ForFoxsGlacierMints · 10/06/2012 20:59

Same as DameHermione re 6th sense - I knew it was something but was happy to be told it was nothing.

MrsRT · 10/06/2012 21:29

I'm 6 weeks and I have had very similar pains, especially in one side. I figure that as the pain isn't unbearable then it's probably just the usual aches and pains. I've booked to have a private scan just to get all these nagging worries out of my head!

donotiron · 10/06/2012 22:30

There are many symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy, but few people have them all. I had three bouts of excruciating abdominal pain that felt like constipation and wind, several days apart. No bleeding. No shoulder tip pain. I finally collapsed two weeks after the first twinge and ended up in hospital with an ectopic. I would advise anyone who has a pain that just doesn't feel right to contact the Early Pregnancy Unit and ask for a scan. Nine times out of ten it's probably nothing to worry about, but it could be.

I'm not trying to alarm you .... I just think it's better to get these things checked out. I hope it's nothing. Take care. XX

ForFoxsGlacierMints · 10/06/2012 22:45

MrsRT - I definitely didn't have unbearable pain till the rupture, just a niggle.

Shoulder tip pain is actually a symptom of internal bleeding so doesn't come till very late on.

Jessy17 · 11/06/2012 00:36

I went to A&E last night because I am also a bit paranoid about ectopic pregnancy. I had a pain in my lower abdomen towards my left hip but it wasn't severe it was almost like a bad period pain. How bad is your pain? After doing bloods etc the doctor came to see me and said that if I was having an ectopic pregnancy at this stage (6weeks) I would be in severe pain an would be practically screaming A&E down....by six weeks if you were having an ectopic pregnancy the baby is big enough to cause extreme pain in your abdomen. I hope this helps as hearing this from him relieved my worries. If you are still worried I would simply go and see your GP and they will probably book you in for an early scan to see if everything's okay xx Remember think positive and don't worry yourself too much

DanyTargaryen · 11/06/2012 06:45

It wasn't excruciating, was enough that I notiiced it iyswim, i got up this morning and thought ooh it doesn't hurt anymore however since getting up its started again in my side and general tummy area. Leg cramp has gone though. I don't know what to make of it tbh. If it gets any worse I am going to phone the docs.

OP posts:
ForFoxsGlacierMints · 11/06/2012 08:36

Phone the docs! Jessy don't know if you read my story but I was sent away with the same rubbish - I ruptured at 10 weeks.

VajeenaVaginaVajayjay · 11/06/2012 11:20

Don't want to worry you OP but I had alot of 'pressure' in my abdomen for a week or so. No bleeding etc.

Then the most unbelievable pain in lower left side. It felt very sore when pressing in that particular area.

It was an ectopic preganancy. I should have gone to the docs sooner but because I left it my fallopian tube ruptured. Very nasty.

So my advice is to go to the docs to put your mind at rest. They should refer you for an emergency internal scan.

DanyTargaryen · 11/06/2012 16:25

I went a and e this morning pain was quite bad again.
they can't rule etopic out at this stage but they took my hcg levels and they are 406 which is apparently low for how pregnant i think i am which is 6 weeks. ive got to go back wednesday for repeat bloods. Thats why they didn't scan me as the small hcg number means they prob wouldn't have seen anything.

i dont know what to do. :(

OP posts:
DanyTargaryen · 11/06/2012 18:03

anyone there?

OP posts:
DameHermione · 11/06/2012 18:06

How's the pain? Is it the same? Better? Worse?

The HCG is measured 48 hrly and it should double. I'm not sure what it 'should' be.

((hug))

DanyTargaryen · 11/06/2012 18:08

Better now yeah.
