Can someone who's had a baby please tellme about the positives of having a newborn baby?

This will be our first and very much wanted. It might seem an odd thing to ask, but i've been reading a few threads here, and one of my baby books, and the NHS booklets, and listening to people I know in real life - I am worrying now about the sleepless nights, feeding every few hours, changing nappies, sore boobs, arguments with partner, being skint, recovery from giving birth... everything I read seems to focus on the negative and 'managing expectations', but surely there are good things too, even while they're too young to talk and walk?!

SilentBoob, you are so right. That post should be printed out and given to pregnant women everywhere instead of the stupid Bounty packs :)

Newborns are magical. The feeling of finally meeting them after all those long, tired months is like nothing else. I spent the first night of my DCs' lives just staring at them, drinking them in. Admittedly with PFB DS it was more "WTF?" type staring Grin but total wonderment too.

What SilentBoob said! You get to sit around all day in your PJs, doing nothing other than feeding and cuddling your beautiful baby. They don't answer back, all they want and need is you. Yes, it can be exhausting and hard work, but it goes so quickly, enjoy it while it lasts Smile

It's cheeks will be so utterly, squishily adorable it will make you happy to be alive.

Also, all the shut bits are phases that you never ever have to do again.

AND they grow into little comedy people that are great mates.

They are little bundles of awesomeness, really.

Absolutely agree with Pudgy2011 - bang on.

Also this: 'all the shut bits are phases that you never ever have to do again.' Grin

I must admit I never enjoyed the feeling of being essential though - more freaked out by it....

The other thing the books don't tell you. Even if you hate the newborn phase, even if they cry at all hours of the day & night, even if they feed allllll day long, you'll look back & pine for your tiny baby.

I wish someone had told me not to wish it away first time around. You never get these days back and as hard as they are, there's some really magical moments there.

Definitely breastfeeding and the early bonding, so cute as they seek you out & as they get bigger and curl up around you & look into your eyes as they feed then smile Grin
