I'm due Christmas Eve :)

How do you feel about having a baby around Christmas? I'm looking forward to having a newborn at such a lovely, special time of the year.

Hiya, I've not had my midwife appointment yet (today at 11am) but i think when i did some counting it looks like my EDD will be 22nd December.

My biggest issue is if i've not popped DP wont let me travel to my mum and dads for xmas dinner Envy, well that and the fact we'll be moving house on 29th of december so i'll either be fit to burst or trying to move with a newborn and a 2YO sobs

DonkeyTeapot · 17/05/2012 09:01

Yes, I'm due 27th Dec according to an online calculator I used. My doctor thought 31st, but she said it in a kind of asking me, not telling me sort of way. Haven't seen a midwife yet.

I suppose my only concern would be that this child's birthday could be potentially overshadowed by Christmas every year. Not by family, we already have a family member whose birthday is Christmas Day, but by friends and other people who are more concerned with Christmas.

Yes, I think you should retreat to a place of safety (and quiet) well away from all the moving shenanigans, and emerge again when it's done :)

chipsandmushypeas · 17/05/2012 09:13

I haven't seen a midwife yet either or received a appointment date Confused

Agree with Donkey, stay out of moving! I wonder if we'll all get our Christmas dinner this year, at least we have a good excuse to not make it.

I'm a little worried about birthdays too, but I'm sure we can make it special. I know a lot of people complain about having their birthday presents wrapped in christmas paper etc. Someone said they celebrated their child's birthday, which was Christmas day, in June instead

A particularly awful ex of mine had a birthday in January, he used to complain loudly and regularly about it, and would even say things like "make sure you buy me TWO presents." He was awful in a lot of ways actually, but I digress...

I suppose I feel that everyone deserves to be the centre of attention on their birthday, and have a special fuss made of them, which is hard if their birthday is at a time of year when everyone is thinking about something else. Don't get me wrong, it's not a huge issue that I worry about a lot, of course we will find ways to make the birthday person feel special :)

lotsofcheese · 17/05/2012 10:11

I think I'm due on Xmas eve - got an 8 week scan tomorrow so should get a date then (all being well, I hope)

I don't think I'll get that far though - last pregnancy was complicated by PE & delivered early, so am expecting I'll not be allowed past 38 weeks (if I get that far!)

I'd said to DP that we should have March off trying, as I didn't want a Xmas baby. And more importantly wanted to have a few drinks to celebrate my 40th in April! I know for a fact that I got pregnant on day 9 of my cycle that month!!!

All our family birthdays are Nov-Feb, so that was another reason. And didn't want to steal DS's thunder - his b'day is 6th Dec.

It's a shame as he gets all his pressies within such a short space of time, and winter b'day parties are more limiting. Plus money is always tight due to Xmas & family b'days. And it's such a busy time of year anyway...

Having said that, as long as it's healthy nothing really matters x

MyDaydream · 17/05/2012 10:22

You should all come join the December thread in the antenatal clubs topic. There are a lot of us due in December.
I'm a Christmas time baby, always said I'd never do the same. Childhood birthdays were okay but 16-21 when I really wanted big nights out with my friends really sucked. Stopped caring after my rubbish 21st.

DonkeyTeapot · 17/05/2012 10:23

Almost everyone in our extended family has birthdays on either the same day or consecutive days with another family member. DD was born on my birthday, which we already share with someone else, and there is another person the day after.

chipsandmushypeas · 17/05/2012 10:25

I did post in the December thread but it's so big with so many people that it moves too quickly to keep up, so thought it would be nice for a Christmas thread :)

DonkeyTeapot · 17/05/2012 10:25

Daydream I would have preferred to avoid an Xmas baby too, but we got caught out. ONCE IS ALL IT TAKES, KIDS! Oh wait, you're all already pregnant... :) I do agtree withlotsof cheese though, it's not the biggest problem in the world.

EggsMichelle · 17/05/2012 10:30

Where is the December thread, I can't find it! I'm due at the start of December (need to have my scan 1st as dates are all muddled) but that does mean I'm guarantied my traditional Xmas breakfast of pâté, bailies and Brie!

chipsandmushypeas · 17/05/2012 10:35

Im glad i won't be really big when it's hot. It'll be perfect as we'll be in second tri throughout summer when we're (hopefully) feeling good, then it'll cool off and we can go hibernate!

WantAnOrange · 17/05/2012 10:49

My birthday is close to christmas and I love it! I've never felt that christmas overshadowed my day. In fact it's my favourite time of year still haven't grown up Grin.

Congratulations. x

StrangerintheNight · 17/05/2012 10:50

Birthdays can be rubbish at any time of year Daydream especially when you're a moody teenager - not meaning you in particular of course!
What if you have a birthday during exam time, or during simmer holidays when no-one's around, and am desperately trying to think of other examples so that I don't get hung up on fact of DS2's Christmas birthday...
Plus baby could be early or late. Mine was due beginning of December but he was so late he gatecrashed Christmas, so it's his own fault.

StrangerintheNight · 17/05/2012 10:51

You know I meant 'summer' don't you? I even previewed that post...

StateofConfusion · 17/05/2012 13:36

I'm due the 13th Dec, scan in 2wks to confirm.

I am so excited, the 12th Dec last year I was in hospital having had a erpc for a mmc. So this is the best christmas present ever.

I agree with donkey me and dp stopped trying to avoid a december baby but forgot, one time, and BOOM BFP.

MyDaydream · 17/05/2012 14:07

Star - I know birthdays anytime of the year can be rubbish. The upsides of christmas birthdays are not feeling bad asking for big gifts because they can be joint with Christmas and having loads of money for the Christmas sales because you have birthday cash too.

Dinosaurdrip · 17/05/2012 15:58

I've not had scan or midwife appointment yet but am due on either 23rd or 28th December depending on when I ov. Have agreed that we can go to dp's dparents for Xmas dinner this year if I haven't had baby by then. Am now regretting it as cannot imagine anything worse than being heavily pregnant and his mother. Ah well I guess I will just have to deal with it. Wil be nice for our 2ds.

chipsandmushypeas · 17/05/2012 16:20

Congratulations Stateofconfusion what a nice surprise

I agree, birthdays are usually a complete anti climax once you're older

OP posts:
StateofConfusion · 17/05/2012 16:27

Thanks :)

I'm worried at first as dds birthday is late november but so long as we make their day special it will be fine!

chipsandmushypeas · 17/05/2012 16:34

Ah it will be fine, more saving money time for a nice summer holiday :)

Congratulations everyone :)

I had my lovely twin girls last year 21st dec.
I had a csection and was home 24th it was madness!!
I have other children so I went to bed when I got home ( got back late) and was up early at my mums!!

It all went by in a blur.

Doubt put pressure in your selves, do all your shopping online early if you can, and get someone else to do cooking etc!!

:) it is a amazing time of year and hope to remember some of it this year

chipsandmushypeas · 17/05/2012 18:35

Thanks Katy :)
