Oh yeah HK pic of cake, sounds great, well done

oinker · 31/03/2006 19:08

Yummy HK.

SAve us some Smile
I used to bake but can't be bothered anymore.

Today proved that.

I am going to have a nice soak just to get rid of the greasy smell!!

Arabica · 31/03/2006 19:25

If you want to talk more about it Wools, feel free to CAT me anytime! I think once you're over 40 it's almost impossible to get much over 1:100 to be honest. My nuchal score was 1:118.

SnowBoo · 31/03/2006 23:05

Slink - Checked this with the consultant before and after. He said i won't need any pain relief as he has left a tag so all he has to do is pull on it and snip it off. Like an external stitch. And i shouldn't feel any pain afterwards. Apart from the obvious labour that will be heading my way!!!! Shock
Not sure what type of stitch it is....But did think i'd pulled it out myself earlier....went for a wee (TMI?) and had a bit of thread caught in my pubes (Even more TMI??) Turned out my knickers have had it and it was the elastic Blush
Mind turned to mush......Grin

ShouldKnowByFriday · 31/03/2006 23:18

Arabica, when do you get your results?

twocatsonthebed · 01/04/2006 00:01

wools - sorry to hear about your situation, and I really feel for you as might be in the same situation in 3 weeks time. I'm 40 and having to have my nuchal scan done privately as can't get it over here.

The main recommendation seems to be the Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley St, who do scan and bloods.

The reason why I'm mentioning this is I've done a search for them in the archives here - and there are loads of people who have had their risk massively lowered by a second scan at the FMC. So is it worth trying a second scan there first, rather than going straight for CVS or amnio? These may be the people who Wills is talking about too - scan + bloods are £150.

Sorry if this is garbled but up late...

wools · 01/04/2006 07:38

Thanks twocats....that is certainly worth thinking about and £150 isn't a lot of money in this sort of situation and if nothing else it would be good to get a second opinion.

wools · 01/04/2006 08:04

Arabica, that's interesting what you say about difficult to get a score over 1/100 over 40. Last year, when I saw the genetic counsellor re rubbish nuchal result/amnio she told me that age 42 was the cut-off for a score under 1/250 so I knew that my score would be low but naively thought I still had a chance of getting slightly better odds than 1/88 which I know still isn't bad considering age etc.

HellKat · 01/04/2006 13:14

Hiya all!

Will save you all some cake.
Hope everyone has a fab weekend.

Snow- pmsl at the thread incident lol Grin

FirstNikki · 01/04/2006 18:02

Just crashing to say:

Just like to say congrats on passing those milestones and slink nice to see you are now 30 wks Grin won't be long before your baby will be born. HK your pg seems to be flying now not long for your half way mark.

Good luck with the tests everyone

Arabica good luck with your results.

And a BIG HELLO to you all xx

HK cake sounds yummy I too would love to see this art. Smile

ruthlouise · 01/04/2006 21:56

Hi,
shouldn't be here really...
This is a bit cheeky of me but am sure you ladies would be able to answer my question ....

did anyone here manage to fall pg within say 4 weeks after m/c (before 1st AF)? Just wondering whether we should be using contraceptives and whether its true that there's a greater risk of m/c if you don't allow at least one cycle before ttc? Any experience?

many thanks
Ruth (late m/c only 2 weeks ago but would love to meet criteria to join this thread!)

petunia · 02/04/2006 02:43

Hi ruthlouise,
Sorry to hear about your m/c. There seems to be lots of different advice about this. I was told by the hospital to leave it one cycle and then ttc, but it was just for dating purposes. But I have read on the internet about there being a slightly increased risk of m/c if you conceive straight away so it's hard to know what to believe! We did wait a cycle and luckily conceived straight away but I think the main thing is to try when you feel ready.

Really hope you can join us over here soon.
Petunia (36+2 wks pg and is suffering with insomnia!)

HellKat · 02/04/2006 07:28

Morning all.
Knackered here lol been up since 3.45am! Definitely grabbing a kip later.
How's everyone?

Nikki- Yep it is flying by. Can't believe how quickly it's going and still not in maternity clothes lol, my bump's big (ish) but too small for maternity jeans, so living in an old pair of size 12 hipsters lol.

Well.................there's a big slice of cake left so i'll send you all some Wink
Hope everyone has a great day.

Ruth- we started straight away but took nearly a year to conceive because my endo had got alot worse.

wools · 02/04/2006 07:48

Hi Ruthlouise, I hope it won't be too long until you can join us on this thread. My second mc was on 5th December 2005. My first period was on 2nd January 2006 (bled for ages though - about 14 days) so was very surprised to get a bfp at the beginning of February. I only waited 1 cycle as that is what my hospital told me to do but I'm not sure it's entirely essential.
I hope that things are getting a little easier for you now although I know you've got Issac's funeral very shortly and that will obviously be a very emotional day for you. Thinking of you.

SnowBoo · 02/04/2006 11:35

Hi all!

Have a question: Am now 22weeks and baby has been a real little wriggler up until y'day eve. Haven't felt him move since (i don't think).
Is it possible i'm being overly anxious due to prev m/c?

Opinions appreciated. In bits today. Very down and depressed through worrying....

Ruth, hope to see you here soon! And hope Issacs funeral goes as well as it can. X

desperatehousewife · 02/04/2006 18:52

try warm bath or lying down quietly on your own for half an hour or eat/drink something/prod tummy and see if any movements. Do you have a doppler? I guess not or you would have used it. You probably are being over anxious, but by god we are allowed to be. If in any doubt phone your local antenatal clinic at hospital.

stay calm x

slinkstah · 02/04/2006 19:35

snowboo- pmsl at the pant thread also thats a relief a spinal wont be necessary for the removal:)
also agree with dhw about getting baby to move, go in to labour ward to get dopplered if you are in doubt.

wools - sorry about your nuchal results i really hope all is ok

FN- hiya hun hope your ok:)

ruthlouise - sorry to hear about your mc, really hope you will join us soon, my first AF was 6 weeks after my stillborn baby, i did not bd though straight away but when that resumed i got pg again fairly quickly.

my bump has grown dramatically, i was small and still squeezing in normal jeans about 5 weeks ago and now i have had 2 midwifes comment how big i am, and 1 person say she thought i was due!!! Also got bounty pack today and saw free samle nappy and about pooed myself! am i really gonna have a baby????

Arabica · 02/04/2006 20:55

Hi everyone. I had my amnio results after 48 hrs and they were fine. You get the full result 2 or 3 wks later, but in my case I know they weren't looking for anything other than a chromosone count. I next see the consultant wk 27.
SnowBoo, do go and get heartbeat listened to if you're at all concerned. I still don't feel my baby much, just the occasional twinge. I didn't feel DS much either.
Wools, still thinking of you xxx
Ruthlouise, would love to meet you again on this thread as soon as you are ready. My consultant advised us to start trying again only as soon as we were ready. I wasn't ready for 1 year.

cori · 02/04/2006 21:14

Snowboo, I took myself to hospital at 22 weeks to be monitored because I hadnt felt any movement to for a while. It turned out to be fine, but i do recommend going in if you are worried. The movements really start to get going after 24 weeks.
Rutholise, I think it is up to you when start trying again. But unless you had a D&C i think you might want to wait for period to pass as there might be some retained tissue ( sorry, this happened to me). I have also read that there is a slight increase in the risk of miscarriage if you fall pregnant in the first cycle. I miscarried end of april last year, was pregant again by end of july. SO only a couple months really. Good luck.

OP posts:
SnowBoo · 02/04/2006 21:30

Thanks for the advise all. He has been on the move more or less all afternoon! And these are proper kicks! Can see him sticking out between the ribcage, by my bikini line and either side of me! Obviously the late night last night wore the poor little boy out!!!! So can go to bed a bit more relaxed. Smile

Have scan on Tues so will find out if he has grown even more. Not too worried about it now thou. Just as long as he is ok....

Right, next q: Anyone else got piles? Have them and they keep bleeding on and off. Not a lot but are very flipping sore! Have tried eating green leafy things and lots of water but it's still not helping!!!! Am i the only one suffering here???? (Sorry if TMI) Oh, had them since ds 3years ago, improved til i had the stitch put in....

HellKat · 03/04/2006 09:02

Morning all.
Over the moon here. Had my triple test done on Tuesday and the results came in the post this morning!!!!! How quick is that? Anyhoo they're low risk! Very, very pleased.

How's everyone?

mygirllolipop · 03/04/2006 09:26

RL – sorry I've no experience/advice re getting pg first cycle after MC, I got pg second cycle and resulted in a live birth.
HK- great news on the cake front and tripple test!
Slink – small nappies are so sweet but I bet you came down to earth with (your) bump!
Arabica – good news
Snowboo- that anusol works great on piles!
Well got an appointment for a scan, am 8wks today, scan is next Weds so will be 9+2. DD3 has been a little cow on a night and was awake for the day at 5am yesterday.

diddle · 03/04/2006 09:31

wools - i personally couldn't have the amnio, i would want to risk miscarriage, and i know if it showed anything it woldn't make a blind bit fo difference to me, i'd just be more prepared i guess. but you could make sure you knwo what to expect just in case wihtout having it confirmed, PLUS I know of two couples, the first were told there was little chance of their child having downs so they didn't bother with an amnio, and had a child with downs, and the second family, were told they had a high risk and had the amnio which showed the risk was still high and they aborted the baby as they felt they wouldn't cope. They later found out that the chidl they aborted didn't have downs after all.
Hope that makes sense. It just proves that even those tests aren't 100% accurate.

HK - hope DS2 had a fab birthday.

Oinker - hope the big bash went well too.

Ruthlouise - i got pregnant after my first miscarriage before i had a period, unfortunately that pregnancy ended in miscarriage too. But i do know lots of women who got pregnant straight away and had successful pregnancies. It is definityl possible to get pregnant though, so if you'd prefer your body to have a rest then its worth using contraception.

Snowboo - how you feeling today?? I have days where baby hardly moves too, its totally normal, although worth keeping an eye on. I'd be worried too, but i bet today or tomorrow it will be back to punching you Grin No piles here, sorry, never had them so have no clue waht you need to do.

Slink - Yeh, you're gonna have a baby!!! we went shopping saturday to get some more clothes, bought a few sleepsuits and little tiny socks, can't believe the baby will be that tiny, then again, it will feel massive when i'm squeezing it out Grin

Arabica - great news about your results, excellent.

Can't believe i only have 9 1/2 wks to go, in single figures now, am paranoid i'm not gonna be ready for it, and that i won't have enough baby clothes with me for baby, and can't decide what outfits to take.

HellKat · 03/04/2006 09:44

Wow Diddle!!!! I know this pg is'nt just going quickly, it's positvely flying by. Cannot believe I'll be 17 wks on Thursday and 3 wks away from the 1/2 way mark!
Still trying to persuade dp to let me have a homebirth (he's worried incase something goes wrong) but if not then I'm looking into getting a homeopath to dish out some labour goodies and have told dp under no circumstances to let anyone offer me pain relief. I'm going 1110% natural this time (instead of mostly) and if they offer me some i'm likely to take it. I'd rather wait until I felt the need rather than have them push it onto me. Also got to look into if the homebirth does'nt work out, asking the hospital to leave me to my job lol. I want dimmed lights, hardly any noise (so i can focus) and just to get on with what nature intended (with some "mooing" if need me Wink).
God that sounds really hippy-like Grin. Ohhhhhhhhh I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

Mygirl- Ohhh good luck with your scan. Wow your's is going quickly too!

diddle · 03/04/2006 09:47

HK - sounds really relaxing actually, i wondered if i'd be able to go without pain relief, i'm planning a waterbirth and to have a tens machine, Not sure if my pain threshold will allow me to go without any relief, and as you know this is my first i have no idea what to expect.
