A new thread for us all to share our mutual anxieties, hopes and fears.

OP posts:
Wills · 24/03/2006 08:06

How are things today Arabica? Crampy backaches don't help do they! Sorry to hear about the discomfort. Yes my hospital told me that if I'd gone through with an amnio it would have been 2 days. Good luck honey. Am watching this thread like mad hoping things will be ok for you.

I'm an IT project manager working in the male bastion of Investment Banking (ugh). At the moment I'm desperately trying to pull of cool Business woman whilst in reality I'm bumbling, waddling, pregnant woman. Slink you ever read "I don't know how she does it"? Apart from her affair and the fact that I have never ever been found at 1.00 am in the morning doctoring M&S Mince pies to make them look homemade the rest of the book is fairly accurate Grin. Its why I want out. Out out out out out. DH and I are desperately hoping to set up a couple of new businesses in Ramsgate that will a) provide a little bit extra money that means that I don't need to return and b) eventually enough money that dh can give up commuting and also work in the same area - hoping yswim.

Still have managed to make it into work with my handbag today. The other good news is that my children's nanny's prem labour has now stopped. She at home taking it easy and we had a long chat last night. She's keen to come back next week so we had a good long chat about her taking it easy and simply supervising the kids - whilst its a relief that she's comming back I couldn't bare anything to happen and am really really nervous about letting her. Ultimately though she has her doctor's backing to come back so i can't refuse. Dh is in for a shock - he's gonna be the one clearing up after kids as I don't want her doing it! Grin but then as he was the one that wanted me to do these additional 2 weeks at work he can ermm "lump it!".

diddle · 24/03/2006 09:38

arabica - hope you're doing ok today.

Slink - as you know i'm a childminder, being run ragged by little toddlers most of the time.

Have woken up with awful back ache today and a bit of a sick feeling. keep waking up in the night again, its annoying the hell out of me.

Wills - you got me all confused for a minute with your nanny problem, first i thought you meant your nan! then i thought you looked after a nanny goat, and it was only your last email that made me realise that you meant your nanny!!1 and theres me in childcare myself, sily me.
Hope you sort out your problems, i'm sure your dh won't mind cvhipping in for a couple of weeks.

how many weeks are you now.

Wills · 24/03/2006 09:53

Diddle 31 + 5. And you? I've got the same thing with the back ache - leaves me feeling sick. I'm alternating between eating like a pig to struggling to put feed near my mouth. Today's a struggle whereas yesterday was distinctly pig like. Are you having this?

mygirllolipop · 24/03/2006 09:55

Morning,
Slink - what's more important the Dr's thinking you are mad/hypocondriac/whatever or that little baby? I wouldn't give a stuff what they thought as long as you get a healthy baby. I'm a SAHM was planning on doing teacher training but the agency 'lost' my reference until clearing so didn't get a place. Will wait until this baby's born to do work, dunno in what sector, have a degree in biomedical science. Oh and congrats on 27 weeks.
Arabica - I'm sorry I have no experience of soft markers, amnio or anything, I'm pretty useless! Hope you are taking it easy, feeling more positive and getting some results soon.
Wills -Good luck with your move/business venture. Done anything dozy today? I know the feeling well!
I have been unable to get and stay asleep of a night. Doesn't help with DD3 using my nips as dummies, I'm stopping BF if she'll let me.

slinkstah · 24/03/2006 10:39

morning all:)

sorry arabica i fell asleep last night - how late were you up? im studying multimedia computing- geeky stuff.

wills - wow a female IT Manager! there is not many of ya, i will be one of these when i grow upGrin setting up a business is a good idea, thats what i plan to do as i am far too bossy to be bossed around by a boss all dayGrin

always right as usual mygirl:) i just came back from my cervix appointment and my cervix is a little shorter and has a little funnel but the doc said all is fine and she is happy enough, so she discharged me :) i told her of the taste and she said she has never heard of a membrane infection being linked with a taste and she said the chances of you going into labour within the next month is very small! so my mind is put at rest somewhat:)

petunia · 24/03/2006 14:25

Afternoon all,
Arabica- found your other thread. Hope you're OK and taking it easy. If it were me, I'd panic everytime the 'phone rang.

Slinkstah- I'm a SAHM now. Used to be a Nanny and took DDs to work with me. Finished working for the family Christmas 2003. Feeling old at the moment because the eldest one is now 21 (she was 12 when I started working for them) and has a baby due any day now!

Hope everyone else is OK.

Wills · 24/03/2006 14:39

Wow petunia, that would make me feel old. I have a brother who is 17 years my junior and I was looking at some photos the other day where I was an adult i.e. 25 but he was a very young child. Had the same affect on me. His 21st birthday is later this year.

petunia · 24/03/2006 17:30

I guess Nannying is like that. I haven't worked for many families but the first family I worked for back in 1995, I'm still in contact with (the father is our dentist!) Their eldest was nearly 6 when I started working for them and he took his GCSEs last year!

HellKat · 24/03/2006 17:39

Hiya all.
Slink- Great news!

I'm currently a sahm but trying (still) to get my degree to become a councillor.
Previously went to college and studied Equine (horse) science, stable management & soil science (totally obsessed with horses since I was 7, been riding on/off for 23 yrs), went to Uni & studied Politics & Philosphy.

There's a great petition on another pg thread that I think most of you would like tosing. It's to raise funds for the study of pg complications & pre-term labour. Great cause.

Have a great night girls {{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}} to all xxxx

twocatsonthebed · 24/03/2006 17:50

hello everyone,

petunia and wills - it's dp's family who make me feel old - his nephew and niece have both finished university, which I find most peculiar as we're still trying to give them their first cousin! And niece is even getting married this year...Shock

Hope everyone's OK - Slinkstah how nice to have a doctor who is so direct and positive. And Arabica - have also seen the other thread, hope it's OK.

And I'm a tv producer, which isn't half as interesting as everyone thinks it ought to be.

diddle · 24/03/2006 17:51

wills - i'm 29 +1, yes i am having the eating problem. although its not so bad.

Slink - so glad you got on ok at the docs. phew.

Arabica · 24/03/2006 19:16

Good news! Hospital rang me while I was walking down our extremely busy high street on the way to the park after DS finished school. Baby does NOT have Edwards, Downs or any other chromosone issues! Could hardly hear a word she said I was so excited.
I feel absolutely shattered now and everything aches, but I know I will wake up in the morning and smile.

desperatehousewife · 24/03/2006 19:19

That is THE most WONDERFUL news. Happy Friday! Have a great weekend. You deserve it!

xxxxx

gomez · 24/03/2006 19:20

Arabica - you have a fantastic weekend Smile.

CarmenH · 24/03/2006 19:25

That's fab news Arabica. Had been reading your thread although hadn't previously contributed.

petunia · 24/03/2006 19:28

Arabica- that is so wonderful. I was thinking earlier how awful it would be if you had to go through the weekend worrying about the results (unless your hospital give out results at the weekend). I'm sure you'll have a good nights sleep tonight!

cori · 24/03/2006 19:29

Weehey Arabica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats great news, I was so worried about you. What relief, have a good weekend and enjoy your mothers day. I will contact everyone soon about our mini meetup.

OP posts:
Arabica · 24/03/2006 19:42

twocatsonthebed · 24/03/2006 21:51

that's so good!

SnowdropsInTheSpring · 24/03/2006 23:12

Oh Mother Day!!!! Keep forgetting its this Sunday. Wonder what delight i'll get this year? Last year was a pair of diamond earings, hope dh can upgrade this year! Grin
No, being woken at 6:30 knowing i can send him into my cousin is everythibg right now.

Anyone else started feeling sick? 21 weeks now but possibly to do with this stinky cold which has reared its ugly head for the umpteenth time.

Slink, glad alls ok. So have you anymore checks or do you wait til nearer the time?

Arabica, have a lovely weekend!

slinkstah · 24/03/2006 23:45

whoohoooooooo arabica i am so happy for you:) you must be so releived!! so glad you go the results before the weekend too thats fab:)

snowdrops- yep thats my last cervical scan they said they would treat me on symptoms now rather on what the scan said and all they can do is give steroids for lungs which they will do if i get too many contractions etc i will still have my usual antenatal visits though.

I did too much today as a friend from up north came to visit, went hospital and back this morning and then picked kids up for school but was ds was late back from school trip so was standing around for a while, and then i walked my friend back to the tube. when i finally sat down i realised i was having some heavy duty contractions and loads of them so i had a bath with epsom salts in it and it worked all contractions dissapeared.
might be a good idea for those suffering with BH to try epsom salts in the bath, its mag sulphate a uterine relaxant (says the internet) don't drink it though else you'll get the squits:)

HellKat · 25/03/2006 08:22

Morning all.
Arabica- congrats great news hun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow what a mother's days you'll be having Grin
Slink- Pmsl at squits!!!! I love that word, has me in sticthes everytime i use it (looks funnier in typing too).

How's everyone?

mrsmaddyd · 25/03/2006 08:53

wools · 25/03/2006 14:05

Arabica, that's absolutely fantastic news. Am so so pleased for you.....enjoy the rest of your pregancy now that huge worry is out of the way.

petunia · 25/03/2006 16:33

Afternoon all,
Slink- also laughing at drinking Epsom Salts. Yep, just what I fancy drinking at the moment! Grin

After a morning shopping in Loughborough, DH and DDs have just taken me out for dinner for Mother's Day. Both DDs were well behaved, not too much running around in the restaurant but I've come back shattered. Tried to just have a sleep and DD2 (aged 3) kept climbing on me saying, "Are you having a little doze?!"
