A new thread for us all to share our mutual anxieties, hopes and fears.

I am having a really crap time Sad. Over the past 2 weeks I have been gradually feeling little tugs and movements (you wouldn't really call them kicks). But for the past 36hrs, nothing. I know that at 18+5, this is probably competely normal, but my mind's working overtime--my boobs feel less sore, my bump feels smaller, etc etc. If I had known this pregnancy would make me feel this effing anxious I think I'd have kept my legs crossed. It doesn't help that DH says I am being too negative and DS keeps going on and on about how much he already loves 'his' baby. I don't have the kind of midwives you can just go and see whenever you are anxious, but if I carry on feeling this stressed I am going to have to ring them on Monday and see if they can find a heartbeat for me. I wish I had bought a sodding doppler now.
Sorry for the rant but I can't stop thinking about it.

HellKat · 04/03/2006 17:45

Hunny I'm sure it's nothing. The baby may have moved and is less accessible. I know how you feel about thinking the worst. This is the most stressful pg I've had. What about giving your epu a call? They're there to give advice. They won't mind at all about you calling. That's what they're there for..

Arabica,
I have felt exactly the same way on a number of occassions. I am sure everything is fine. I think it is quite common in mid second trimester to all of a sudden not too feel pregnant for a couple of days. If you still feel the same way tomorrow or on Monday give the hospital a call. In my experience they are usually quite happy to accomodate you.

OP posts:
Arabica · 04/03/2006 18:23

Yes I will definitely call on Monday if I still feel the same way. Do EPU still deal with you if you are over 13wks?

cori · 04/03/2006 19:47

I dont think so. My hospital has a ward which is a bit like a pregnancy A&E which you can visit with these sort of problems. Have a look in your Antenatal notes, it should tell you who to contact.

Congrats slink - on an excellent meeting with your doctor.

Hellkat - well done on reaching 12 weeks and hearign that little heartbeat thumping away.

Arabica - my baby was less active than it is now until about 20 wks or so, i have days when baby hardly moves now and i'm always worried, but it soon starts again. definityl get it checked if you're worried, i've got a doppler so have used that to reassure me.

Had a great day today, had our 4d scan, it was absolutely amazing, baby looks so cute. we spent 2 hours there just watching our baby move around and wiggle about a lot. i would recommend it to all of you. it was well worth the money.

Arabica · 04/03/2006 22:45

I'm feeling a tiny bit better now, I felt a couple of flutters that definitely weren't wind. Diddle, thanks for the reassurance.
Cori, if I have a problem I think I have to ring the midwives' team and they then direct you to see them either at their surgery base or to come to the ward at the hospital where they investigate problems--had to go there when pregnant with DS when I got some scary headaches (turned out they were caused by an upper back problem)

slinkstah · 05/03/2006 11:57

cori- whoohoooo maternity leave:) what do you plan to do?

arabica- glad you've felt some movement:) i have days where i realise i haven't felt baby and get worried, and have got doppler out to double check. i don't think hospital would mind at all if you popped in whenever you are worried.

diddle- im defo gonna get a scan too, im gonna make it my prize for making it to 28 weeks:)

FirstNikki · 05/03/2006 13:34

Congrats HK on hearing the heartbeat so clearly.

Arabica hope you are feeling a little more reassured now , if not like already been said go along to community mw team or drs.

Diddle glad scan went well what a great idea I believe they are so detailed. Do you know the sex already?

Cori enjoy mat leave ...not long now.

Hey cori, that sounds like bliss all that me time before baby comes. If you find time and inclination cooks loads of meals and put them in the freezer yu be glad to not have to cook with a newborn! Thanks for the congrats!

Arabica · 05/03/2006 22:23

Congrats Mygirl.
Yes would love to meet up. I have felt a few kind of tugging twinges today so feel a bit better. Also watched that David Attenborough programme and got very emotional over each and every cute furry animal, esp the baby polar bears and penguins! But still think I will phone midwives tomorrow.

mygirllolipop · 06/03/2006 09:09

Thanks Arabica, hope all goes well with the midwife I'm sure it will.

HellKat · 06/03/2006 09:40

Sad day today. Had to have one of my cats put down because he was elderly and started messing everywhere. Sad but relieved though because it was stressing out the two and it's alot nicer for ds2 without having to worry about whether or not the cat had gone for a pee somewhere.

I'm so lazy copying and pasting Smile
How's everyone?
Arabica- good luck with the mw.
Mygirl- Are you still on cloud 9 hun? Grin

mygirllolipop · 06/03/2006 10:52

Aw HK poor cat, I think my bro and SIL will have to put on of their cats down as it has cancer in it's jaw.
I'm on cloud 9 but the worry has started to set in, I keep thinking I can't believe my luck, and that af will still show up 2day.

Arabica · 06/03/2006 11:35

Smile Am so glad I phoned the midwives. They suggested I call into the ostetric assessment unit at hospital where I only had to wait about 15 mins. She checked measurementsall fine and then got the doppler out. It seemed to take forever to find the heartbeat, but there it was, loud and clear. Apparently the baby has been hiding behind the placenta and that's why I haven't been feeling any movements. Am very relieved! Thanks for all the good wishes & vibes.

mygirllolipop · 06/03/2006 12:15

Arabica- so glad all is well and you feel better about things. Also glad you have a great obs. unit and only waited 15 mins.

slinkstah · 06/03/2006 12:22

arabica- thats excellent news:) you can call them again if you need to too.
i wish they had somewhere like that at my hospital as i have a feeling that even though i am still on antibiotics from after the stitch, i think i have a small infection down thereBlush the bleeding after the stitch went from pink to yellow with slight whiff (sorry if tmi- you always get tmi from me)
shall i go to gp, see if i can get another antenatal appointment, or turn up on labour ward, or leave it for a few days as im already on antibiotics?

cori- im up for a meetup, i dunno where though i will have a little think:)

hellkat- sorry about your cat hun

mygirl- enjoy cloud 9 hunny:)

oooh and must tell you all about my dream! i dreamt about my cervix stitch - it wasn't at all like a stong piece of string it was like those round metal things that you tighten around hoses to attach to taps lol call me miss metal cervixGrin

24+4 :)

FirstNikki · 06/03/2006 12:45

Hi just popping in:

Arabica so pleased all is well and you got seen to quickly

Slink I would personally ring the ward you were on for the stitch and ask their advice.

Arabica · 06/03/2006 13:03

Hi everyone, Slink, I would second that advice--the ward know exactly the procedure you had and what is normal and what isn't.
Re meeting up, I am in NE London but happy to travel, just need to be able to get home in time to collect DS from school.
