Anyone know how long it takes to get results of Downs screening back? Sorry probably wrong section but thought I may get more traffic on this. Thank you.

Mine took about a week. Do you know what your measurement was? I was told if measurement was very low risk (which ours was) it is unlikely for the blood test to come back making you high risk

york67 · 19/03/2012 14:38

Measurement was low at 1.1 but as the wrong side of 40 I am expecting a high result on bloods.
Thank you florin

results took 15 days by post for me. They ring you if its not good odds, usually within a week it seems.

TinkerMaloo · 19/03/2012 14:51

oh and my measurement was 1.7 scanned at 13 weeks. hope that helps put your mind at rest hun Xx

scrablet · 19/03/2012 14:52

Mine came back v soon, by phone, 3-4 days I think.
Phone if you are worried. ( I'm sure will be fine)

york67 · 19/03/2012 14:54

I was told that if the results showed a high risk of Downs, they'd phone within a week, and if low risk, they'd just send a letter, which could take 2 - 3 weeks.

Not sure if timescales are constant throughout the country mind. Hope all goes well.

PickleSarnie · 19/03/2012 15:20

I never got any letter/phone call. Had my midwife appointment 4 weeks after the scan and bloods and she chased up for me. She said that generally no news was good news. Turns out my risk was 1:3900 so she was right but I still would have liked to have been told without having to chase!

MillyStar · 19/03/2012 15:22

They couldnt do my measurement so i had my downs test done by bloods only at 17 weeks

They said if i was high risk i'd hear within a week, if not i'd get my letter within two weeks and i got it exactly 2 weeks later!

I've never ever been told my chance in numbers though just low risk

Hermionewastherealhero · 19/03/2012 15:22

mine took 5 daysm result was 1:50,000, they said if high risk I would have heard in 3 days by phone

Beans1977 · 19/03/2012 15:32

I feel very lucky now - at our hospital they give them to you just after the scan. I found the 20 mins waiting for that agonising enough! Good luck, hope they come soon and are good.

MediumOrchid · 19/03/2012 15:34

At my scan they said it would be a week but the letter came in about 3 days. Hope yours come soon.

Boggler · 19/03/2012 20:44

My results came back after a week, I'm like you had a great nuchal measurement 1.4mm but my bloods made my overall result come out at 1:36 which was frightening. york69 I'm like you on the wrong side of 40 so I opted for an amnio to set my mind at rest. I got the results of that back in 48hrs which were thankfully all clear. Good luck with your bloods you're right though being over 40 does often skew the results my bloods alone came 1:8 .

stargirl1701 · 19/03/2012 21:46

Ours took 15 days. A long wait.

therumoursaretrue · 19/03/2012 22:46

Probably varies from trust to trust, but I was told 10 working days and I would be contacted by phone regardless of the result. Only had mine done on Thursday though so it seems like its been ages already!

york67 · 22/03/2012 11:41

Well its a week today. Really hoping thats a good sign.

it is a great sign york :) try not to worry

passthebiccies · 22/03/2012 13:53

I'm sure that your results will be fine if you have heard nothing by now. I had a higher risk and was informed within 3 days; this seems to be quite standard, from what I've heard. Fingers crossed! Smile

devon0000 · 22/03/2012 17:16

thank you.

GwenGotLost · 24/03/2012 13:38

I was told 10 working days; got mine just under that. Try not to worry, I'm sure they'd have contacted you if there was anything wrong Brew

york67 · 26/03/2012 14:23

Thanks everyone. Got letter today. 1 in 1800. Really pleased as better than last time and that was 6 years ago.
Although obv appreciate things could still go wrong.

Hi, hoping someone will see this thread. Its been just over two weeks since i had my screening. I've still not got the results. I know the measurement was on the high side of normal at 2.5 but no idea about bloods. My age is also a factor. Should I call the hospital or midwife? Thanks for any advice....I'll probably try and ring them anyway!

Dogsmom · 30/11/2012 13:02

I had 2 letters, one was from the hospital after 7 days saying that as I was low risk it was ok to have the baby there, I thought that was 'the' letter, then had another 3 days later which was the official one with the proper results in.

They told me that if there was a problem I'd be contacted by telephone within a few days so the longer I waited the better.

forgetmenots · 30/11/2012 13:54

These tests aren't compulsory, are they? (Booking appt next week and wouldn't want to have an amnio or anything anyway, so
don't feel I want to have them)

weeblueberry · 30/11/2012 14:29

No the tests aren't compulsory - you opt whether to have them or not at your booking appointment. You're absolutely within your right to refuse them.

My blood tests for Downs actually arrived today after I had my appointment last Tuesday. Much faster than I thought. Smile
