Bleeding at 11/12 weeks - can anyone reassure me?

mummeeee · 14/03/2012 22:13

I am 12 weeks (based on lmp) but could be as little as 11.

On sunday, then yesterday I had some mucous, streaked with blood, when wiping. It was only a slight trace of blood so I wasn't too worried.

This evening I started bleeding a lot. Bright red, soaked through underwear and jeans before I got to a loo....sorry if tmi.

Phoned local midwife led unit straight away, went up and midwife listened with doppler, twice about half an hour apart, but couldn't hear a heartbeat. She was upbeat about the chances though.

Home now, lying down, still no pains, still some blood flow - I would say about like a medium flow of a period.

Midwife has faxed main hosp with urgent scan request. They will phone tomorrow.

I know it's impossible to say, but Wdyt? Anyone any idea of the stats of how many pgs with 12 week bleeding end in m/c? If you've experienced the same, what do you think?

Thanks. Btw - is 3rd pg, not bled at all during previous pgs

I'm wishing you the very best of luck hon but it doesn't sound good. Bright red is never a good sign. I'm talking from experience.

But try to get some sleep and I wish you lots of luck tomorrow. It could be nothing.

I don't know what to say without sounding really harsh! Let us know how you get on. Xxx

mummeeee · 14/03/2012 22:43

Thanks. Think you're right, doesn't sound good, does it. Sorry to hear your post comes from experience. Sorry for your loss.

If it is bad news, will I get an 'answer' as to why, do you think? Saw other posts about blighted ovum, but not sure what this is or how it was diagnosed after m/c. Just trying to stay lying down and relax.

Fingers and toes crossed for you. I've had a tiny tiny amount of bleeding and it was bad (mmc) and heavy bleeding (on and off for the first 16 weeks bright red) and my six month old daughter is sound asleep upstairs, so you can just never tell.

Wishing you the very best of luck for your scan.

mummeeee · 14/03/2012 23:04

Thank you. That reassures me a bit that we need to wait and see. Every slight ache I think is the start of cramping.
Sorry to hear about your mmc, but happy to hear about your lovely dd.

I had.a massive bleed at 12 weeks. Gushed all over the floor and continued like a really heavy period for 2 days. No cramps though. Went to a&e and they did a quick scan and found the heartbeat.

Was booked in for my nuchal scan a week later. When I was there, as well as a perfectly happy baby, they found a fairly sizeable clot/ haematoma. They said they'd be surprised if I didn't bleed some more and I started bleeding again, but just brown when I wiped that time for two more weeks. Went for follow up scan and the haematoma had shrunk considerably. I'm now 18 weeks, the bleeding has stopped, I can feel baby moving around and fingers crossed all will continue to be well.

Fingers crossed all is well for you too!

randomimposter · 15/03/2012 07:13

I had a massive bleed at 14 weeks with DS, and was convinced it must be all over, but after examination and scan all seemed fine, though a threatened MC was diagnosed. He's now nearly 4 and singing pirate dinosaur songs at me from the bath.

I have subsequently had 5 MCS, so know how worrying it all is. But I would disagree with the "bright red blood is never a good sign". Through all the women I have met through MC forums etc, lots have had red bleeding and it's been ok. Unlikely MW would pick up HB with a doppler at your stage.

Good luck.

Midgetm · 15/03/2012 07:17

Only the scan will say for sure as it could go either way. Blighted ovum is where it doesn't develop properly, usually due to chromosonal abnormalities so development stops at a certain stage. Really have everything crossed for you and hope you get seen quickly today. The uncertainty is worse. Sending you virtual hugs.

goingmadtrying · 15/03/2012 07:22

there has been another post on here recently similar to this and the other op had bleeding and pain sounded very much like a mc and she had a scan and all was ok, hope today goes well for you fingers crossed :)

mummeeee · 15/03/2012 07:43

Thank you. Didn't sleep much, but no pain or cramping through the night. Sounds like it's impossible to tell without a scan. Have decided if I can't be seen for a scan before the weekend I'll try to get a private scan asap.

Thanks for the support and the different outcomes. It really helps to know.

Have done some more reading online so have a bit more idea of what to expect depending on scan outcome, so feel more prepared whatever happens.

Hi mummeeee - I am going for my 32 week scan this morning, I had bright red bleeding at 12 weeks, but scan showed heartbeart and bleeding stopped after couple of days. I also had a mmc in february last year, no bleeding but spotting from 9 weeks. You just don't know til you see that scan - have got everything crossed for you today xxx

mummeeee · 15/03/2012 13:16

Thank you. Have a scan appt tomorrow. Crossing everything till then. Only light flow now, which tbh seems like the end of yesterday's bleed rather than something new. so that is something positive.

Hey mummee, My experience tells me that it really could go either way and only the scan has the answers.

I had a mmc at 12 weeks last year which began with bleeding similar to what you have described, however, I am now 7 weeks and last weekend I had another similar bleed also. Convinced it was happening again I got the doc to arrange a scan on tues which showed all was fine with baby, we saw the heartbeat and everything, and there was no sign that there had been any bleeding.

Good luck for tomorrows scan and in the mean time try to chill - I know this is near impossible, but try taking a long bath and distracting yourself with crappy tv or a good book usually works well for me.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 15/03/2012 16:37

How did you get on op? X

mummeeee · 15/03/2012 17:55

Got a scan appt tomorrow lunchtime, so just trying to hang on till then.
Mil coming tonight to stay for a few days. Ds (1.11) has chicken pox, so luckily will then have child care. Obv can't take him to the epau or leave him at nursery, so dh was going to have to stay with kids. Fortunately, with mil at least dh can come with me to scan.

Bleeding again now, same time as last night.

Fingers crossed for you. I hope things work out well for you.

Just try and rest as best you can. Like others have said, women do bleed and sometimes everything is fine.

Good luck xx

PickleSarnie · 15/03/2012 18:21

Hope it all goes well tomorrow. When I had my two day mahoosive bleed it slowed to a halt at the end of the first day, only to gush all over the floor just getting out the bath the next day. So, whilst only the scan and time can tell, its not always a really bad thing (although is always a bloody terrifying thing)

Midgetm · 15/03/2012 19:51

Good luck mummeeee. Got everything crossed for you x

PollyIndia · 15/03/2012 20:01

My mum said she had really bad bleeding with me and was told to lie very still for 10 days, which she did, and I am here to tell the tale.
I hope everything is ok for you too

curiousgeorgie · 15/03/2012 20:01

Fingers, toes, everything crossed for you mummeeee... try to rest up as much as possible until then and let us know xxx

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 15/03/2012 20:04

fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow. x x

TheRedQueen · 15/03/2012 20:09

I had three to four days' worth of very heavy bleeding at about 12 weeks and was kept in hospital for a week to rest. DD is now 6.5 though so, terrifying as it was, everything was OK.

Keeping my fingers tightly crossed for you for tomorrow!

mummeeee · 16/03/2012 09:02

Have been trying to stay hopeful, but seem to have lost all hope this morning. I woke at 4 (with dd) but haven't managed to sleep since so the lack of sleep isn't helping my mental state.
I seem to have lost all of my pregnancy symptoms and even my clothes seem looser ( I am sure I am imagining things but it's still bothering me).

Mil is here so can finally stop trying to do everything and let her take care of dd and ds. But that means I'm just lying down being upset.

I know it's not long till the scan now but almost can't face it.

Mummeeee I will be thinking of you today- hold on I there.

I had exactly the same bleeding at 8 weeks with my eldest daughter. It came on suddenly, was bright red and soaked my trousers all the way down to the hem before I got to the toilet-which took less than a minute. I was so upset I didn't even see the point going to hospital as I thought it was obvious what had happened. In the end my husband persuaded me to go, and I was examined and found the cervix was closed. I had a scan first thing the next morning, and there was the heartbeat! The bleeding slowed but did go on intermittently for a few weeks. The only think I could think was tha my niece had jumped onto my lap about an hour before it happened, and her knee had hit my stomach. I felt a bit dizzy too about half hour before the bleeding began. There was like a huge bruise around my womb on the scan, so it seems it was my bodies way of protecting the baby. Just hope this shows not all heavy bleeding means the end.

I hope you get the same outcome, will be praying for you today. Xx

randomimposter · 16/03/2012 11:18

Just lurking for news.

mummeeee · 16/03/2012 14:12

I'm afraid it's not good news. Not sure when exactly but fetus stopped developing several weeks ago. Need to wait and let things happen, then go back next week for another scan. If not all gone then can choose the minor op to remove everything :( I am signed off work for 2 weeks at the mo, but need to wait and see.

Obv very sad and prob still in a bit of shock, although glad in a way that the bleeding gave me an inkling, rather than going into the Nuchal scan with no idea.

Thanks everyone for getting me through the uncertainty.
