Same as first time, but don't forget a bag for DC1 to be ready to take to friend/granny etc when DC2 comes. DS's bag was packed before mine!

Dozeyland · 26/02/2012 22:22

Wht d you have in there? do you have a lot less than DC1's birth?

Flip flops to wear in the shower.
Enough maternity pads.
More clothes in case they don't let me go home 'until I've pood.'.
Ear plugs.

RecursiveMoon · 26/02/2012 22:25

I was speaking hypothetically Grin. But it's good yo be prepared.

Dozeyland · 26/02/2012 22:25

So far i have done a quick draft:

nursing bras, nursing vests, underwear, maternity pads, breast pads, lasinoh cream, lip balm, make up and toiletries, pjs, clothes for home, snacks, camera, phone, money.

baby gors, vests, nappies, wipes, cotton wool, sudocrem, dummy, hats, blankets, coat, muslins, booties.

DD1 - clothes, and spares, nappies, wipes, cream, lunch bag, drink, milk, coat, pjs, toothbrush, toys, blanket, dummy.

im sure i'll change this!

Lots of sugar energy tablets, the chewable kind. With DC3 they were the only things the mw would let me have while in labour. ( I was induced and they wanted to err on the side of caution in case of emcs.)

I was induced with all 3 DCs btw, but this was the only time i was really restricted!

luckysocks · 26/02/2012 22:28

For me....

DARK low cut pyjama bottoms (!) and the tops I now know work for me when bf.

Tenalady samples.

Bag for the car with extra clothes so that I don't have to attempt to describe things to DH who will then bring a random sample of entirely useless stuff.

Hmm what else. Actually, I do need to start thinking about this.........

griphook · 26/02/2012 23:00

so far.... pads and knickers and hair bands. That's it. Must sort out tom.

confuzed90 · 27/02/2012 07:44

How long gone is everyone packing their bags,I'm on DS2 and first pregnancy bag was packed at like 20 weeks!! (Due to excitement)? I'm 32 weeks and so far the babys is done and consists of... Vests(some spare) 3 hats (because of the goo when they are first born and incase we stay in then one to go home) going home outfit, nappies, blanket, socks and scratch mits. And photo outfit for when he's just been born. So far all I have in my bag is pants, 10 enough?large black ones. And shampoo, conditioner and breast pads...

I was in hospital for a week with my first DS so the second time I brought in a little wheelie case and I was only in for six hours. The looks on the midwives faces still makes me giggle! The most important addition second time around was a bar of dairy milk to eat in the bath!

RealLifeIsForWimps · 27/02/2012 09:03

I will not be taking

  • DVD box set to watch in case I got bored during labour (Wtf was i thinking)
  • Any clothes which arent dark tracksuit bottoms and vest tops

I will be taking

  • My brest friend as I really dont like feeding lying down
  • own swaddles as can't do the hospital ones
  • secret stash of pacifiers
  • laptop

I get to stay 3 days btw.

Flisspaps · 27/02/2012 09:27

Less than last time.

Labour bag with my essentials (straws, lipbalm, oils, flannel, old t-shirt etc), a nightie for afterwards, one towel, one nursing bra, one pair of knickers and a pad and washbag in. That all fits in one small bag.

Changing bag - one outfit for baby, baby towel, two nappies, wipes, blanket.

Ward bag with other nightie/pyjamas, towels, flip flops, knickers, one pack of maternity pads, bras, a book, pack of nappies, babygros, vests. No breast pads - milk doesn't come in until about day 3, and I am not preparing to be in for the long haul.

If I need anything else, DH can bring it in to us.

The idea is that if I go to hospital then we only need to take the two small bags up with us to the labour room, then DH can bring the ward bag up afterwards. The two smaller bags mean that DH isn't rooting round one huge bag looking for my lipbalm amongst hundreds of maternity pads or babygros. Then if we do stay in, he can take my labour bag back, and we can set up the changing bag so that I'm not rummaging in a giant bag looking for nappies and wipes.

I've also packed an overnight bag for DD with nappies, pyjamas, change of clothes and one of her teddies in, in case she needs to be whisked away to stay somewhere else if I am transferred in.

Dozeyland · 27/02/2012 14:16

I'm 28 weeks today DC2, With DD I had it all ready by like 33 weeks i think. But I just want to make sure its done, as i'm on my own with her at the minute whilst DP is away... highly unlikely he'll be home... :(

So I'm just trying to get prepared as much a you can prepare for labour I guess..........

I think my plan is to take just the one bag for me & baby (medium size nike gym bag) and then DD's separate bag. don't want to make too much for myself. and it does have a fair few pockets I can organise things in! Oh and my changebag maybe? ... well if needed.

With DD I was in for 2 nights, not sure what this time will be but probably atleast one night.

Definitely taking less than last time. Took far too many clothes for myself and baby when I literally wore the same leggings and vest to go into hospital and come home again and a nightie for when in labour. Also took about 4-5 changes of clothes for baby when she only wore one.

If I have to stay in any longer than one night DH can get some more stuff from home.

Oh and would definitely recommend food and drink stash, particularly if you get kept in overnight. Oh and god yes, a book or magazine. Didn't have anything to do when kept in overnight except clock watch and I have never had such a long night.

littlemissnormal · 27/02/2012 16:40

The first time I packed jeans to wear home after we were discharged....as I could hardly sit down without gasping in pain these stayed right in my bag and I had to go home in pj bottoms!!

So trackies last time and this time are top of the list!

mousebacon · 27/02/2012 20:14

The food at my hospital is beyond foul so I was thinking about taking in a couple of those Heinz 'just add hot water' soups. I'll be having a section so will be in for a couple of days I think...

To be honest most of my second-time-round planning revolves around food!

RealLifeIsForWimps · 27/02/2012 23:41

Some of the London hospitals now have M&S Simply Food concessions in house. Now that would be awesome

mousebacon · 28/02/2012 17:58

Ooh! That would be awesome! Grin

SleepyFergus · 28/02/2012 18:13

Yeah the food in the Hosp where I had DD was rank. My DH brought in a pack of M&S sandwiches, a bottle of come and couple bars of chocolate which I devoured behind re curtains in the small hours of the morning. Never has food tasted so good!

SleepyFergus · 28/02/2012 18:13

Eurgh! Not a bottle of come, I meant coke. Obviously!!

theonewiththenoisychild · 28/02/2012 18:37

I tried to pack less second time around but didnt really manage it as i like to be prepared. I just dont understand these women who take 1 tiny bag. Where is all of their things? Will aim for smaller bag next time pmsl

mousebacon · 28/02/2012 18:45

Ah ha sleepy it's you they're targetting with their talk of contraception the next day! Grin

theonewiththenoisychild · 28/02/2012 18:46

Or rather where are all there things? Blush i dont think i'd bother with anything but pyjamas to wear next time

SleepyFergus · 28/02/2012 18:55

mouse True!! Wink

I turned up with 3 bags last time. A wheelie bag for me, a holdall with all the baby stuff and another random bag/handbag with nothing in particular in it. Think I grabbed that one in a panic on the way out the house. Looked like I was moving in for a week. But I didn't bring enough baby stuff so I'll be taking more this time! ponders buying a matching 3 piece luggage set....

lalabaloo · 28/02/2012 19:50

Oh gosh I haven't even really starting thinking about hospital bags and stuff, i'm 30 weeks, when should I have things ready for? I still have loads to get sorted before baby arrives, I did lots early on and the last few weeks i've hardly done anything to prepare!
