HI, had pain earlier so went to triage, where I waited for hours. Going on first day of my last period...which was 11th January, I thought I'd be 6 weeks this Tuesday, but, I didn't get a positive test until around three days after my period was due, n it was so faint, now tests are very strong. The hospital scanned me, couldn't see anything yet :( and they took blood from me, they said I'm either too early pregnant that they can't see baby yet, or it could be an ectopic pregnancy :( am scared stiff.....to phone for blood results tomorrow at four to check the pregnancy hormone is still doubling, to go back on Tuesday for more bloods, n they'll keep tracing me until they see something in the uterus, worried sick :( have a history of 3mc's, 1 'normal' mc and 2 mmc, also have a dd, 10 and a ds, nearly 5

Bump :( :( just read that symptoms of ectopic pregnancy is diarrhoea n those similar to a tummy bug. I've had awful diarrhoea since three days after finding out I was pregnant :(

Sad try not to worry too much for now (I know, I know) there is nothing that can be done until the bloods have been checked.

It is a horrible situation to be and I have been through similar. Just relax and do your very best to just get through the next few days.

TruthSweet · 19/02/2012 18:24

Oh caija, I hope you get some rest and you get a good result. I had an early scan a few weeks ago and they were very surprised to see the fetus at such an early stage (I didn't know how pg I was and the GP suspected ectopic so off to the EPU I went) so it doesn't sound like it would be unexpected that they couldn't see anything.

Have you get any of the other symptoms of an ectopic? IF you have I'd be persistent and go back to A&E especially if you pass black-ish blood or have any severe pain.

All the best xx

faintpinkline · 19/02/2012 18:28

Caija please try not to panic. I had bleeding and pain with DD at 6 weeks and went in and they couldn't find her even with a vaginal scan. They took bloods and everything seemed normal. A few days later they had me in again and this time there she was. Right now she's a healthy six year old watching cartoon network.

I know its very scarey but please don't jump to any assumptions yet. Why torture yourself without knowing all the facts?

Warm sweet cup of tea, something light and easy for supper, warm bath and early bed. Let the hospital do their job and relax as much as you can while they do it.

MandaHugNKiss · 19/02/2012 18:35

WHilst it could be that things are not progressing as normal (none of us unfortunately have a crystal ball that we can reassure you with Sad ) it would sound like you ovulated later than usual in your cycle so are not quite as pregnant as LMP suggests.

Additionally, my last three pregnancies I've had nasty upset tummy in the early weeks that the doctor said is perfectly normal - just a reaction to the hormones surging.

I know it's not easy to switch off from all the 'what if's you have in mind but, really, you must try and relax/distract yourself because worrying certainly won't help and will make you feel wretched. I'm the worlds worst for this! So I know it's easy advice to give and not so easy to act on.

Just to clarify - are you having any pain/bleeding? Not always, but ectopic will usually present with spotting, at least, and around the six week mark you might expect sided pain. Other than The Trots, what is worrying you so much?

caija · 19/02/2012 18:46

Ty all. I am hoping and praying that the pregnancy is ok, I have quite a
Bit of pain in my tummy, abdomen, my back is AGONY....i had spotting tiny bit on sat morning after sex, but I do have quite a bit of pain....n side pain every now and again :(

SoozyWoozy · 19/02/2012 18:51

caija, I know its not easy but please try not to worry. You can find the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy here

Fingers crossed for you that it is just too early to see anything yet. You bloods (BhCG) doesn't need to double, it needs to rise by 66% over 48hours.

I have had to have early scans in all of my 4 pregnancies as I have a history of ectopic pregnancy, and only in one of them did we see something at the first scan... with all of them I had 'unable to confirm intrauterine pregnancy' because I have longer cycles etc.

Good luck

MandaHugNKiss · 19/02/2012 19:03

Ok.

SO, again, I can't guarantee it's all fine but from what you say, nothing is screaming ectopic to me - spotting after sex is very very normal - your cervix is engorged right now and particularly sensitive. You could also have a cervical erosion (not how it sounds, it's not eroding away! Just a few of the cells from inside the uterus (that produce the lining) have grown out of the cervix).

I would think that if your sided pain was related to an ectopic then sex would have made it worse and it would be more constant... I've always had sided pain in early pregnancy that has turned out to be the corpus luteum (the progesterone producing cyst formed on the ovary that released the egg).

To feel crampy/light period pains has also been totally normal for me my last three pregnancies (and for many other women too!).

Back pain could be pregnancy related (good or bad) but also is there a chance you might have a uti? Mine always present with back/kidney pain and not the typical needing to wee lots/pain on weeing.

Also, many of the women on forums I've frequented seem to get early positive pregnancy tests (which makes sense if you think about the fact implantation happens before it even gets to the right place) that take a long time to get dark (because hcg tends to not rise as quickly as in a healthy pregnancy).

I do hope you can get some rest and be cautiously hopeful that things are ok.

Sorry, should have read before posting -

Hi everyone, sooo nervous and petrified about phoning for blood results at four Sad am Praying everything is ok. It could be possible I have a UTI, they said yesterday that there was protein In my urine, but just a tiny amount and I asked if that was anything to worry about and the midwife said no xx

Don't worry about uti - I've got one at the moment. Miserable but easily treatable. Drink lots of water - as much as you can bear. you'll spend your whole time rushing to the toilet but it does seem to improve the symptoms. Cranberry juice is good as well - no harm in getting some even if you don't have infection

PoppyS34 · 20/02/2012 10:40

good luck for later today x

ShiresCountryBumpkin · 20/02/2012 10:56

Oh Caija thinking of you with fingers crossed.
I had an ectopic rupture at 10 weeks which was pretty horrible but I had absolutley no symptoms like those described - not even during the drama - thought I had food poisoning!
Every pregnancy is different for every woman - try to keep strong.

DoNotIron · 20/02/2012 11:00

Hi Caija,

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Nothing will stop you feeling scared, but try your best to keep busy until this afternoon. I have had a previous ectopic and am now 11 weeks pregnant. This pregnancy is in the right place, but I still had one-sided pain and very bad stomach upsets, which convinced me that I had another ectopic. As regards pregnancy tests, with the ectopic I had a good clear line the day before my period was due, but with this pregnancy, the line was just about visible - there can be different levels of dye in different batches of test. So many symptoms can be similar to an ectopic pregnancy, but the most important thing is that you are being monitored by the hospital. I hope you get good news.

Take care. X

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 20/02/2012 11:02

:( I hope you get a good result this afternoon.

RabidEchidna · 20/02/2012 11:10

Hope for the best x

caija · 20/02/2012 11:31

Hiya everyone, well the hospital phoned ME and left me a voicemail, you can imagine how panicked I was when I got it. I phoned back and basically no further forward....they said the pregnancy hormone is Defo in my blood so she said to me 'So there's Defo a pregnancy in there somewhere' she said my level was 1 thousand and something (I think!) ...but I've to go in tomorrow as early as I can for more bloods and they shud get the results back tomorrow sometime and then they can compare them to the bloods that were taken yesterday to check the preg hormone has doubled in 48 hours, if it has, then the pregnancy is continuing, if not then its not continuing normally. She said it could just be am too early. Soo I still don't know Sad

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 20/02/2012 11:58

At least they are 'onto' it and have called :)

Waiting is awful though - what can you do to keep busy??

Lucylucy57 · 20/02/2012 12:04

Good to hear that the hospital have been proactive in getting back in touch with you. Positive thoughts till tomorrow! Its very possible that its all just so early its difficult to tell. I had an ectopic pregnancy last summer but didnt have any symptoms what so ever till it reached a critical stage. I had the diarrhoea symptom but only at a much later stage than you are now - 7 and a half weeks - I think what you may have experienced was just a tummy upset as mine signalled a ruptured fallopean tube. This would have shown on your scan if it was the case and believe me, they would have whipped you into hospital quick! Im happy to say Im now pregnant again - 21 weeks.
Take reassurance that the hospital are looking into this very early and throughly from your account so please try to remain positive. x
