Morning sickness = girl?

Sorry if this has been done a million times before but I'm currently 12+6 and have had appalling 'morning'/ all day sickness since for last 7 weeks. People keep saying 'ooh, that means it's a girl!' Apparently you get worse sickness with girls? We'd quite like a girl (though would be overjoyed beyond words with a healthy version of either!) so are quite intrigued about whether there's anything in this theory? What are your experiences? And any other theories on ways to get an inkling before the 20 week scan? So exciting! x

I always amazed that seemingly rational women start quoting old wives' tales concerning pregnancy.

My friend blamed her heartburn on the fact the baby had lots of hair!! Grin

misshoohaa · 28/01/2012 11:20

Nope, had the morning sickness with my little fella!

purepurple · 28/01/2012 11:32

I had hyperemesis both times and I have one of each, so there goes your theory. Grin

I had no ms with DS and this time around I have felt sick but nit actually been sick (a bit like a hangover feeling). Also bad skin (was good with DS) and food generally tastes unpleasant - I have a bad taste in my mouth all the time. Won't know until August if my 'different' second pregnancy actually means anything though but will be interested to see!

PigletUnrepentant · 28/01/2012 11:50

For those standards, DS should have been a very very girly girl...

He is quite the opposite of that.

happymschicken · 28/01/2012 12:21

Well it was true for me.

Very mild sickness with my DS and dreadful sickness with my soon-to-be born DD.

I'm not in the least bit medically qualified but my consultant said there is some evidence to suggest that some, and I emphasise the word 'some' women suffer from bad MS when pregnant with girls because of the female hormone girls produce in utero. So when I had my 20 week scan I wasn't in the least bit surprised to find out I was having a girl.

I would say a good 90% of my friends had far worse sickness with their DD's than their DS' (we were talking about this very suject a couple of nights ago).

ellesabe · 28/01/2012 20:55

My colleague had hideous sickness and it was a boy. I had virtually none with my dd.

Archemedes · 29/01/2012 09:05

I was sick from day one, every day until I was 7 1/2 months gone..

and had a boy, sorry.

newpup · 29/01/2012 09:54

I was extremely sick with sickness with both my DDs. Good Luck.

PavlovtheCat · 29/01/2012 09:57

hg with dd. manageable without meds.
severe hg with ds. almost manageable with meds.

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 29/01/2012 10:06

I didnt vomit even once... didnt even feel sick... had me thinking i wasnt pregnant at all...

We had a girl

These theories are nonsense

ddsmummytobe · 14/03/2012 17:01

Now 20 weeks. Sickness only got much worse since last posting and only subsided at 19 weeks (touch wood!) Guess what?! IT'S A GIRL! WHOOOP!

Badgerina · 14/03/2012 18:46

Hideous constant nausea and sickness for 13 weeks with DS, this time around no sickness at all. The doctor who did my midwife referral at 8 weeks, actually said "oh well it's a girl then. Different symptoms mean a different gender." I was flabbergasted. Surely that's utter crap?

whostolemyname · 14/03/2012 18:54

No sickness or nausea - girl. Sorry!

lolajane2009 · 14/03/2012 19:34
