Hairy baby!

Hi all :) Just wanted to share - we had a growth scan yesterday and the consultant commented that the baby has 'lots of hair on its head' - I am AMAZED that this can be seen on a scan! I've never met a baby born with lots of hair - am imagining having to gel it down, lol!

Anyone else had a hairy baby?? ;)

Yes, all the babies in our family have been born with hair, I had loads apparently.

Its hard to see on the scans, but looks like little lines off the back of the neck sometimes.

NorthernGirlie · 25/01/2012 15:30

Apparently I was as bald as anything - DPs Mum said all hers had hair though -I just find it strange as not something i've really come across ;)

She pointed it out and it was really clear -like a cap so obviously LOTS of hair!

Consultant also said it confirmed the heartburn thing too -I've really suffered with it!

Yes, my first son was born with loads and we'd been told to expect it. I had a scan 2 weeks ago with this one and was told it's already an inch long!

MamaMaiasaura · 25/01/2012 15:33

I thought it was normal for bravura to have hair although people do often comment on dd (3 months) having lots.

Chubfuddler · 25/01/2012 15:33

I met a six month old with shoulder length hair yesterday. I kid you not - her mum said she had already been to the hairdresser twice.

Poledra · 25/01/2012 15:35

All 3 of my babies had a full head of hair at birth Grin And I had the most appalling heartburn with all 3 pregnancies - was necking gaviscon as swiftly as I had previously necked red wine.

DD1 also had hairy shoulders, fluffy ears and a hairy bottom - as first time parents, we were worried enough to ask the midwife if this was normal (which it is, of course!). Dh referred to her as his little monkey for a while...

rootietootie · 25/01/2012 15:35

ooh, I love hairy babies, they are just the cutest. Bald babies are cute too but I just love a baby with a head o hair :)

Sluttybuttons · 25/01/2012 15:36

DTD had a fair bit and she looked like a monkey because she had dark hair all over her shoulders and back. It all fell out though and now she still doesnt have much and shes nearly 18 months

NorthernGirlie · 25/01/2012 15:37

Haha - I'm sooo glad we had warning - think I'd have been a little shocked! Just Googled pictures of 'babies born with hair' and had a little giggle - very cute but strange too! Big old learning curve this... :)

The midwife delivering my baby said she hadnt seen so much hair on a new born in all her 30 years practicing! Everyone commented on it!

By 6 Months her hair was shoulder length having never 'shed' the baby hair.

At 18 months it's not almost at her bottom!

Very strange.

I never had a day of heartburn and it was never mentioned at my scans!

puzzletree · 25/01/2012 15:50

Mine were both hairy, but then I was too, apparently the nurses came from round the hospital to see 'the baby with the hair' Blush
I thought the heartburn thing was a myth? I didn't have it anyway.

Poledra · 25/01/2012 15:52

Quit, I only heard the heartburn thing from the chef in my works canteen - I asked for something to be made without the spiciness because of the heartburn, and he said 'That'll be a baby with lots of hair then!' Apparently, it's a common old-wives tale, but I don't know if there is any truth in it.

Aw - I love hairy babies.

My friend had a baby boy with tons of black hair - it was even growing on his back and ears! By about 6 months it all fell out an grew back white blonde, and just on his head!

Angel786 · 25/01/2012 20:41

Dd had Loads of hair and everyone said that as soon as they saw her. Broke my heart when we had to shave it at a week old for religious reasons but it grew back. Now she's one she can have bunches, pony tail etc.

She did have q hairy arms and shoulders and back when born but that disappeared within a month, apparently it's normal but showed up more as she has black hair Hmm

HumphreyCobbler · 25/01/2012 20:45

I had terrible heartburn. Everyone said ooh hairy baby.

Bald till he was about three.

Eglu · 25/01/2012 20:51

DS1 was born with loads of black hair. He also had a hairy back, shoulders and ears. My babies have been progressively less hairy thoough. DD (DC3) doesn't have much at all.

ZuzuBailey · 25/01/2012 20:52

Which religion requires shaving of a newborn's head Angel786?

I've never heard of anything like this.

workshy · 25/01/2012 20:56

my dds were both born with lots of auburn which all fell out to be replaced with white blonde hair, which has now turned brown now they have reached the ripe old ages of 8&10

Angel786 · 25/01/2012 21:16

Hey zuzu in Islam it's considered beneficial, but not mandatory (sunnah) and most Muslims shave the babies head before he/she is seven days old. You also have to gove the equivalent of the babys hair weight in silver to charity and sacrifice a goat / two depending on if a boy/ girl...

HandMini · 25/01/2012 21:20

My DD was born with a thick head of dark hair. The midwife took a peek down below and popped up saying "ooh, I can see lots of hair". I thought she was making reference to my lack of waxing regime late in pregnancy. Blush

CuppaTeaJanice · 25/01/2012 21:24

Both of mine were born with lots of hair, really soft like a kitten.

Something you have to look forward to Hmm is the feeling you get in late pregnancy as the baby grinds it's head on your cervix - ime it feels like someone slowly rotating a brillo pad down there, which I figured was because of all the hair.

heartmoonshadow · 25/01/2012 21:36

DS born with lots of very dark brown/black hair but oddly now at 2 1/2 he is a little blondie!

puzzletree · 25/01/2012 21:37

Handmini Grin

FuzzzyDuck · 26/01/2012 00:28

I had a scan at 32 wks to which it was pointed out on the screen that dd had a 'halo' of hair round her head Grin. Was true and she was born with a full head of very dark brown hair!! Also had lots of fluff on her ears and lower back (which is still there!). Most of it fell out by time she got to 6 wks but is growing back a bit lighter in colour now. I can't believe it when I look at the photos the amount of hair she had. It was very cute Smile
