Hairy baby!

Hi all :) Just wanted to share - we had a growth scan yesterday and the consultant commented that the baby has 'lots of hair on its head' - I am AMAZED that this can be seen on a scan! I've never met a baby born with lots of hair - am imagining having to gel it down, lol!

Anyone else had a hairy baby?? ;)

DD was born with loads of almost black hair. It was dead straight, and when she got warm it stood on end, like a spider plant! She was a beautiful baby though! as they all are

AmberLeaf · 26/01/2012 01:27

All mine had a full head of hair at birth, as did I.

I had awful heartburn too but Im sure thats just coincidental.

AllThreeWays · 26/01/2012 01:43

I had heartburn and a baby with hair, assumed it was a myth that there was a correlation so did a little googling and apparently there was a study done at John Hopkins Uni that says you are more likely to have a baby with hair if you suffer heartburn, but no guarantees. www.nytimes.com/2007/02/20/health/20really.html

I was told dd2 had loads of hair on a scan. She came out 4weeks later with about 6 hairs on her head...

BuckBuckMcFate · 26/01/2012 06:02

All of mine have been hairy.

DS1 had tight black curls
DS2 had strawberry blonde dandelion hair
DD had black pixie style cut with a very long fringe
DS3 had black dandelion hair.

DS3 looked like a little hedgehog as a newborn. The baby hair never fell out and the new hair growing through was blonde. For about 6 months he had masses of stripey hair and I had so many comments about it. I referred to it as his wig as it just didn't look real.

They all had hairy backs too Smile

bunnyfrance · 26/01/2012 06:11

I've had two bald babies and awful heartburn - no truth in that old wive's tale for me!

duchesse · 26/01/2012 06:22

If they can spot it on the scan, probably lots. Reminds me of that baby about []www.buzzfeed.com/babychums/baby-born-with-highlights-in-hair-dwx 2-3 years ago born with highlights]]- now that is a lot of hair for a newborn, apparently also spotted on scan.

duchesse · 26/01/2012 06:23

Try again: If they can spot it on the scan, probably lots. Reminds me of that baby about 2-3 years ago born with highlights- now that is a lot of hair for a newborn, apparently also spotted on scan.

CuppaTeaJanice · 26/01/2012 08:01

My DS was born with highlights too!! Although the hair wasn't as long as the baby in the picture, it was dark brown with blonde highlights. Then he got a nice suntan and looked like he'd had a 3 week holiday in the Med until the midwives pointed out it was actually jaundice.

MiauMau · 26/01/2012 10:25

mmm, will have to ask MIL and my mum about that heartburn thing, as me (totally bald, no eyelashes or brows for the first year) and DP (extra hairy) were in completely different hair spectrums :o

Funtimewincies · 26/01/2012 10:31

Hmmm, not got a milkman named Pat Mustard have you Grin?

Sorry Blush. I did resist temptation for ages.

Catsmamma · 26/01/2012 10:33

I also had diabolical heartburn, ds1 didn't have enough hair for a hair cut till he was almost four!

ShowOfHands · 26/01/2012 10:36

Both of mine had lots of dark hair, all fallen out by 4 months and replaced by fine blonde fuzz. They also had hairy ears and shoulders. Grin

I never had problems with heartburn either.

RealLifeIsForWimps · 26/01/2012 10:38

Nah- I'm the opposite. DS is almost bald (still) at 16mo. Still on our first bottle of baby shampoo

I think the head shaving thing is a Chinese tradition. It's so that the demon's don't come and take the baby.

Iggly · 26/01/2012 10:38

Two hairy babies here! DS was like a wolef. DD less so but both with lots of dark hair. DS's turned into thick curly brown hair. DD is only 8 weeks but it's curly/wavy so far.

AWimbaWay · 26/01/2012 10:43

All 3 of mine had hair, I thought it was normal!

redstormrising · 26/01/2012 10:44

DC1 had lots and lots of hair from birth. He also had a really hairy back. (Was full term though). It is lovely, and just IMnotsoH opinion adds to the cuteness quotient. He was pitch black at birth and is now a red head.

I did not have heartburn though. But I craved spicy food....

GwendolineMaryLacey · 26/01/2012 11:50

DD2 has fluffy ears...

ZuzuBailey · 26/01/2012 19:53

Thanks Angel786 - very interesting. My DCs hair wouldn't have made much for charity I'm afraid - they had some but it was very fluffy and light.

hairybabymummy · 26/01/2012 20:18

yes, pigtails by 6 months for DD. Waist length by 2.5 - 3. Hair was quite the novelty esp in maternity unit.

2nd child, not quite so hairy on head but surprised by the hairy ears (gone now!).

think both are destined for fair to middling thickness of hair though as per gene pool. Just got it a bit early.

TinkerMaloo · 27/01/2012 09:36

aww little furry ears! :) i love them!

MY DC1 was a hairy little monkey til it all fell out and i had awful heartburn with him
DC2 was hair free (aside from furry ears :) ) and no heartburn there....

goingtoofast · 27/01/2012 09:38

All mine where born with hair and it could be seen on the scan. DD2 had the most and it looked as if I had put curlers in!

spannermary · 27/01/2012 09:41

DH and I were both bald as....so I'm expecting similar - even though we now both have full heads of hair!

...by the way - you're having scans at 32 weeks? Is this usual, only I'm 30 and no-one's mentioned it. :)

MiauMau · 27/01/2012 09:47

My sister's little girl has a line of black fuzz from the middle of her back to her bottom :)

TinkerMaloo · 27/01/2012 09:51

spannermary its not usual in the UK to be scanned later than 20 weeks but it does often happen if they are concerned about babys size or many other things
