My mum very eagerly bought me a Silver Cross 3D at 8 weeks. It was far too early and I bled at 9 weeks...Luckily, everything was fine and in just over a week I should have DD to push round in it. The first thing I ever bought for myself was at about 6 weeks which was just 2 pairs of scratch mitts from Primarni, just to pacify the urge cos they were only £1.50 or something like that. Really started stocking up between 12 and 14 weeks after we were out of the 'danger zone'

Babybeann · 17/01/2012 15:38

I wanted to wait till I'd had my 12weeks scan but that didn't stop me looking in the baby sections of shops. On the day of the scan I brought a sleep suit that says "mummy and daddy love me" from mammas and pappas I feel like I'll always remember buying it!

VeronicaSpeedwell · 17/01/2012 15:48

I allowed myself one sleep suit after the 20 week scan, and bought a bargain second hand Moses basket from a friend at the same time, but apart from that still have nothing yet (21 weeks now). I don't like having loads of unused stuff around, and I feel like we've still got quite a long way to go.

mustdash · 17/01/2012 15:50

the day before she was born.... Blush I had promised we'd get it all at 36 weeks, but we didn't make it that far.

rebecklet · 17/01/2012 15:52

We aren't even TTC until next year and we picked up a super cute snowsuit in cream in the sale just after Christmas. For us it was a real confirmation that we have decided to have children and to do everything possible to get us there (lose weight and save money in preparation).

Although I see why people wouldn't buy anything, just in case something bad happens as you might not want reminders. I think as long as you don't go OTT, a few things here and there are okay at any stage :)

Flisspaps · 17/01/2012 15:53

First time round, started buying a couple of bits at 12wks, and then bought the rest gradually from about 20w+.

This time, we bought a bear at about 8wks, and then got some nappies and vests at the weekend (28wks) - but then there's not nearly so much to buy second time round, and the house is already full of baby --clutter- essentials!

Yummymummyyobe1 · 17/01/2012 15:53

I bought baby harry his first item at about 3 weeks. I can't remember what as there has been a great deal more since. Wink

xx

Happenstance · 17/01/2012 16:27

20 weeks with both big things nearer the time, bought a car seat last week and off to order my pram this weekend when i'll be 30 weeks, i won't buy a cot till baby is almost out of moses basket.

KatAndKit · 17/01/2012 16:31

Nothing at all since 25 weeks. Will be 28 weeks tomorrow and have gone a little bit mental in the meantime, especially on ebay! Now have pram and quite a few clothes!

KatAndKit · 17/01/2012 16:31

Nothing until 25 weeks was what I really meant.

user59457812 · 17/01/2012 17:22

I bought one baby grow at about 24 weeks, which was the first thing and it is really special to me. At around 29 weeks we were given a few things by friends, but we still haven't bought anything else ourselves. I'm hoping to really get going around 34 weeks or so.

After MCs I have been quite superstitious and everyone else has been sensitive to that. We also don't have space for a lot of things in boxes etc. so it seemed to make more sense to wait until it's time to get a little room ready Smile

melliebobs · 17/01/2012 17:34

Bought a few onsies after 12 wk scan

Furniture at 16 weeks (it was a deal at babyshow)

Pram at 32 weeks and still no news on it :-/ 4 n a bit weeks now till due date n still no news on it :-/

mildertduck · 17/01/2012 18:16

I bought a hooded towel at 20 weeks, but that's it - am 24 weeks today.

We have been given loads of stuff though, which is brill - although all of my friends have had boys so there's a definite blue theme...!

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 17/01/2012 18:20

Whenever you are ready, it will make no difference whatsoever.

FutureNannyOgg · 17/01/2012 18:22

I bought some cloth nappies at about 14 weeks, but they were clearance stock at half price, so waiting would have cost me a fortune. After that, about 20 weeks I think.
For DC2, I bought a babygro before I was pregnant, although I was pregnant with one I mced, and it was a halloween one I just had to have Grin

Potol · 17/01/2012 18:27

The NCT nearly new sale was around the time I was 26 weeks, so we picked up a load of stuff there. Then I made a detailed list of what we needed (I loooove lists!) and slowly ticked them off.

At the 30 week mark, I bought stuff I would need for birth/labour/immediately afterwards, like front opening tops etc. Treated myself to a new fluffy and super soft dressing gown

30-32 week mark- both sets of grandmothers knitted blankets and posted them (both live overseas), along with sheets etc. They also sent more clothes!

At 32/33 weeks: I put in a big order for baby toiletries, muslin, hooded towels etc from Boots and Mothercare after comparing prices.

34 week mark went to another NCT sale and also picked up the rest of the clothes stuff. Bought a playmat. Also that week, our crib came (but it's still in its packaging and needs assembling).

35 weeks- DSis sent us a massive gift of clothes, steriliser and baby monitor.
Got given a changing bag for Christmas and more baby clothes including a sleeping bag, sheets and blankets!

36 weeks- picked up the car seat and on the recommendation of an experienced mother decided not to pick up the buggy (although we know which one we want) since it's just going to clutter up the house and won't be needed for the first few days after birth.

I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow and will have a C-section due to a few complications in just under 2 weeks' time. I'll pick up the buggy next week and persuade DH to make the crib.

I know this sounds supremely organised but bear in mind I was working full time (last day at work tomorrow) and I have a one hour commute each way. So doing it bit by bit has kept me sane!

The3Bears · 17/01/2012 18:30

I'm only asking because some people think it's odd to get stuff early, and I can understand but I am a very organised person and would rather spread the cost out, so we have started to get a couple of basic things like white vests, hooded towels and muslin squares im only 10 weeks but with ds1 we started getting stuff early and it was much easier and more organised in the end I could just relax and not have to run around chasing stuff up it was great.

About 15 minutes after DH and I decided to TTC I went on the Next website and ordered a cute coat with bunny ears.

(Then I secretly moved my handbags out of my wardrobe and before I was even pg I had a literal mountain of stuff!!)

Then I shopped almost every day of my pregnancy when I finally did conceive. It was like an addiction.

When DD was born she had sooooooo much stuff (plus gifts that you'll get) that I boxed loads of stuff with tags up and gave it to the hospital.

DH is still annoyed! haha......

marshmallowpies · 17/01/2012 18:50

MiL bought a lot of stuff at a nearly new sale when I was only about 18 weeks (as far as I can remember) - having checked when the other local NCT sales were happening, I realised we'd missed most of our local ones and the next wouldn't be for ages, so we told her to go ahead and buy whatever she could get.

She also got us a cot second-hand and I got a cot-top changer from Gumtree. SiL has sent a big pillowcase full of used clothes.

So far the only brand new items bought are the mattress and sheets, both bought in the Jan sales when I was about 25 weeks.

It does feel like we've done everything quite early but the chance of getting stuff reduced or second hand was too good to turn down!

blushingmare · 17/01/2012 20:38

Haven't started yet (20 weeks)!

Mikocat · 18/01/2012 09:56

Didn't buy anything until after the 20 week scan (mid-December).

Since then I have bought quite a bit of stuff, mostly to take advantage of the sales! So lots of clothes in newborn and 0-3 months, even some 3-6 and 6-9 if they were really bargainous!

I've also bought a moses basket, a changing bag and ordered the cot, although that won't be here until about March.

We have promises of bits and pieces from friends, but as we are moving house soon I'd like to let stuff clutter up their houses for a bit longer!

CGall · 18/01/2012 10:48

Im 30 weeks and all I've bought is a hospital bag! Nothing even to put in it yet!

Yummymummyyobe1 · 18/01/2012 10:49

We have been buying like crazy parents to be (my logic only 15 weeks to go)

We had the pram, car seat and a mosses basket by week 20 then came the matching cot bedding and bath set bouncy chair, baby monitors, clothes etc.

Yesterday we also bought a rocking crib for downstairs and have the cot, wardrobe and chest of drawers on order to arrive next week. Also ended up with about 1000 nappies (bulk buying is ace)

My mum has gone mad a bought baby loads in fact dad mentioned that the baby has more stuff in the wardrobe than my mum at the moment.

We have also been given masses of baby clothes in the first three sizes the woman over the road sent a huge number of never worn first and 2nd sizes.

At this rate baby Harry will need a walk in wardrobe. Smile I wonder if there is time to create a dressing room come baby bathroom for him Wink xx

MiauMau · 18/01/2012 13:50

When I had the feeling that I might be pregnant, I had the urge to buy tiny newborn socks, so I got some and a pregnancy test. I was about 4 to 5 weeks at that time :o

JambalayaCodfishPie · 18/01/2012 14:43

Bought my pram off eBay at 10ish weeks - mega early but an absolute bargain that I couldnt miss. Was terrified that I'd 'tempted fate' though.

Nothing else until the last week (26wk) or so - have picked up a couple of blankets, some vests/babygrows and a 'coming home' outfit. DPs mum bought our steriliser set off amazon too. Picked up a cheap changing mat as well. After the moses basket/bedding we've not much more to get.

We're just buying bits as we go, I'm being very frugal with this pregnancy as really want a holiday in the summer! Grin Also, I know we will be bought so much, I'd rather see what we dont get and fill the gaps!!
