Yes, another live labour thread. I'm bored and DH is napping (made sense whilst he can and there's not much he can do for me atm).

Waters started trickling at about 5.30 this morning, MW confirmed, sent me home, told me I needed good regular contractions by 7.30am tomorrow or it's off to the hospital to be induced instead of my hippy-dippy natural birth at the MWLU like I had hoped for...

I've been for a walk, done housework, got DH to do light touch massage and have bought some clary sage which will be used this afternoon...

I'm getting some tight squeezy feelings, but not enough for me to confidently call them up and say - yup, got contractions...

So. Anyone want to entertain me whilst DH sleeps? Or discuss the pros/cons of nipple stimulation etc...?

Hi everyone - Cakes has now been induced and is having strong surges.

She's had some lovely midwives and is doing ok. Smile

Flisspaps · 11/01/2012 19:47

Excellent. Is she on the syntocinon drip or has she managed to avoid that so far (fingers crossed)

Best of luck cakes, not too long now before you meet that lovely baby :)

ghosteditor · 11/01/2012 21:59

Hi Fliss, I'm not sure how far they had to go with the induction and if they got to the trip, but poor cakes has been up and labouring for a long time now - hope those bean bag naps helped!

abeautifulbutterfly · 12/01/2012 03:51

FX for her that I've missed all the action and she's snuggled up with baby cakes:) Hope all went well, Cakes, in spite of the length [hugs]

ghosteditor · 12/01/2012 10:14

No updates yet I'm afraid! Hopefully she's saving the announcement for herself. C'mon babycakes!!!

ghosteditor · 12/01/2012 11:24

Another update - unfortunately cakes is still labouring, so she's had an epidural and is doing ok I think. What a trooper! I've sent all our positive vibes and good wishes her way.

freckly12 · 12/01/2012 12:15

Hi cakes just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you hope baby cakes (nice one ghost!) has made her/his appearance by now and you are getting some well earn't rest x

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 12/01/2012 22:26

Hello girls.sorry I haven't read outstanding posts but hopefully you'll forgive me when I explain that i've had maybe 6 hours sleep in total since monday and a pretty different birth to the natural hypno birth I had wanted.

Waters went on tues, as you know. Mwlu gave me 24 hours to get labour established, so I was awake most of tues night trying ti do that, but when it was unsuccessful we got sent to the hospital. They gave me a couple of choices as to what we could do but the risk of infection made us decide to try sticking around and breaking the fore waters, then maybe going for induction if that didn't work.

Long story short I spent most of that day hoping for progress, most of the night using my hypno breathing to get through the intense cx caused by the induction before finally begging for an epidural first thing this morning when we foundthat I was still only 2cm dilated despite getting 32mg syntocinon (a lot, basically).

I progressed well during the day and we were hopeful I could deliver naturally with the epidural, but baby's head wasn't descending and they were concerned about his heart rate dropping after cx. Eventually it was decided that c section was the only real safe option - classic cascade of intervention, but it turns out the cord was wrapped round his arm and that's why his head hasn't descended, so there would probably have been issues even if we hadn't had the issue with the waters breaking.

Our son, Leo, was born at 5ish (need to find out when, exactly, he was born actually!) on his due date and is the most beautiful and perfect baby I have ever met. He has his daddy's mouth, my chin, his aunty's ears and lots of blonde hair. He's very laid back despite his stressful start and is sleeping next to me in his crib.

I am a fucking mess. So sore, very disappointed at how things happened and boiling my arse off on an observation ward being ignored by the midwifes, though one of the ones who looked after me during labour just hunted me out to see how I had done, which was lovely. I can't fault my care during labour, it was excellent, but now I just feel tired and a messand I want my husband because i'm scared at looking after this little person when i can't look after myself.

Everything was worth it to get my little boy out safely, but I am feeling like a complete train wreck now.

Welcome to the world baby Leo!

It's a shame that things didn't go the way you wanted. Sounds like you had a very tiring time of it. Do you know when you can go home?

Emsgale · 12/01/2012 22:44

congratulations!!! sorry it didnt go to plan my first didnt either but id do it again in a heartbeat for her and for this one too. xx

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 12/01/2012 22:48

They haven't said, but i'm hoping that in a couple of days I can transfer back to the mwlu... In the meantime dh is trying to get me a private room on his work's health insurance, then he could stay with us tomorrow and unlimited visiting hours

ghosteditor · 12/01/2012 22:52

Hey hon, CONGRATULATIONS! And welcome to the world, baby Leo.

Gosh, no surprise you had a hard time if he was being held back by the cord - must have been exhausting. No matter how you're feeling, to Leo you're his mummy and you're everything he needs, so don't worry too much, ok? And well done and congratulations all over again!

girlsyearapart · 12/01/2012 23:09

Congrats. Hope you recover quickly

kohl · 13/01/2012 00:15

You absolute hero - I've been thinking of you lots. It may take you a while to come to terms with the birth being so completely different from planned, it did me. Be gentle with yourself and enjoy every amazing scary minute with Leo. Many many congratulations. X

perfumedlife · 13/01/2012 00:31

Cogratulations and Welcome to the world Leo! Grin

That was a massive ordeal you had! I really hope you get your room. I was given one on the second night and it made such a difference to how I felt after the trauma x

Lucycarr · 13/01/2012 02:54

Sweetheart it's overwhelming suddenly having responsibility for a little person especially after a traumatic labour but you will be fine he is yours, just let it come naturally. I'm sorry for you that hubby can't be there that's the worst thing about having to stay in, fingers crossed for a room for your little family.
No matter how traumatic the birth trust me the memories fade! I can barely remember mine and it was only 2 weeks ago!
X

Rollersara · 13/01/2012 07:02

Congratulations, and welcome baby Leo! Hope you get your room and/or transfer to the MWLU xx

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 13/01/2012 08:43

Congratulations! So pleased you have him! So sorry your labour didn't go like you wanted. :( I would highly recommend getting a debrief, it made a huge difference to me when I had mine. (2 years later)
Also push for the MWLU you can transfer after a day post CS here so I really don't see why you couldn't if you kick up a fuss! A private room sounds lovely and just what you need otherwise, it might not be prohibitively expensive if you can't get it on insurance either?
I hope you feel better soon and well done you did so well :) Thanks
