I know it's slightly sad strange to admit but I love One Born Every Minute and can't wait for the new series to start tomorrow.

I'll be watching even though I'm 30 weeks pregnant and it's bound to put the fear of god into me, will you?

They asked him to go and do a ward shift but he said he hadn't worked on the ward for so long he would look like a twat and not know where everything was. He was on hand for a home birth which was to be filmed but it didn't work out.

festi · 04/01/2012 22:06

oh ok I see. that is understandable.

Oh my God.

I have to give birth in this hospital and the Team Leader of the Delivery Suite just said "forceps.. in the right pair of hands.. can be artistic" Shock

I am worried.

kiki22 · 04/01/2012 22:13

DP looks like he's in shock... maybe it wasn't a good idea to ask him to watch with me

Garliccheesechips · 04/01/2012 22:18

I am still laughing at her birth outfit Grin
Will tune in next week to see it covered in blood and shit.

naffedoff · 04/01/2012 22:18

I had both dcs in this hospital and also had a male mw for dd, who's now 8. He Hugh, if I remember rightly) was the only nice one out of the whole lot - the rest were miserable and rude both times. Think this bunch are playing to the cameras...

FriendofDorothy · 04/01/2012 22:22

I am not sure they are - just expect they haven't forgotten about the cameras enough yet.

shagmundfreud · 04/01/2012 22:24

I think I'm going to spend the rest of the series gnashing my teeth about supine women and non-breastfeeding babies. Sad

I mean - you've got a perfectly healthy, brand new baby mashing its gums there and practically pointing the way. What happened to skin to skin?

MustControlFistOfDeath · 04/01/2012 22:29

Miau Thanks for that, I can get onto the website, the episode is there waiting to be played --tantalisingly- but it won't allow viewings from a Polish ISP. Angry

No matter, I can watch on 4od when I get home.

Thanks again for trying Thanks

twincrazy · 04/01/2012 22:50

found it amazing - having 2 c sections - was amazing to watch

But have to say - found the lad having a few anger attacks abit much - he seriously needs to calm right down

used2bthin · 04/01/2012 22:55

What did they name the baby boy did they say?

festi · 04/01/2012 22:56

kyan

used2bthin · 04/01/2012 23:00

Thanks festi missed that bit

Reggaegirl · 04/01/2012 23:07

Jesus Christ! 10lb 10!!!!!! first baby!!! Shock. I swear I didn't breathe myself until that baby did. he was just so lifeless. My first baby didn't breathe for a little while but she was moving around at least. How worrying for the poor girl Sad. I thought the boyfriend may just be anxious and not handling it well, UNTIL ..... the bit where he said "there's a pub down the road I need a fucking drink...." and his parents had to stop him. He obviously has serious issues but he should be so embarrassed/ashamed on watching that back. What the hell did he think his poor girlfriend had just been through!!!

and Grin at the "birth outfit" Hmm

Reggaegirl · 04/01/2012 23:09

Will tune in next week to see it covered in blood and shit

hahahahaaha, Garlic!

shagmundfreud · 04/01/2012 23:11

My second was 11lbs and was the same at birth - pale and floppy and not breathing. And it was a homebirth. Midwives resuscitated him on the bed in front of me and then, woomf, straight into my arms and on the boob.

I do love a big baby. Grin

Reggaegirl · 04/01/2012 23:18

11lbs - wow!

Everyone in my family has such small babies (6lb 9 the absolute biggest in 3 generations) that when DD came out 2 weeks early at 8lb 5 they were all shocked and convinced that they had the figures the wrong way round and it was really 5lb 8! But 11lb ... wow! There was a baby in my ward 10lb 8 and he was in 3 month baby clothes after birth x

My second was 7lb 4 and looked positively scrawny compared to DD1!

two4one · 04/01/2012 23:20

You could almost feel the midwives wincing when the father of the big baby gave him the faggy kiss - poor girl, he'll make it all about him, you can tell. Glad she chose her mum to go into theatre with her.

Loved the close up of baby Freya coming out - it all looked so clean down there and not gruesome at all - lucky girl.

Northernlurker · 04/01/2012 23:22

Working - don't worry. All hospitals use forceps when they're needed - and they are a lifesaving tool. You've seen two births tonight - one where mum had an epidural so was on her back and one where a mum who had laboured before, appeared to labour well and deliver easily (as easy as it ever is). Nothing there to worry you. When you're giving birth - say what you want - they can't do it without you! Grin

Reggaegirl · 04/01/2012 23:32

Did the mum of the girl baby have other children? I guessed as much, but think I must have missed the bit right at the start where they say it cause I was making Ovaltine!

Northernlurker · 04/01/2012 23:37

They didn't say but she made some reference to it and when he was going to the car with Freya at the end he was followed by Donna, unidentifued female - Donna's mum at a guess and a small boy I think - who had the job of towing the suitcase Grin Looked about 6 or 8.

MrsHuxtable · 04/01/2012 23:39

Was it not the first baby for both mums?

Just watched it on 4OD and was shocked by the behaviour of the bf with anger issues. Imagine having someone like that raging on the ward when your giving birth...

Felt so sorry for the guy who had to go to Afghanistan with such a new baby though!

MrsHuxtable · 04/01/2012 23:40

Oh, I see x-posts.

4madboys · 04/01/2012 23:44

no it was one ladies second baby.

my ds4 was 10lb 13oz very easy water birth but he had breating issues the first night and had to be kept in and was checked by a paed, they say its more common wiht big babies?

i watched it and cried, cant wait for next week, the woman with the red otufit, lol that is going to be great!

DrCoconut · 04/01/2012 23:47

I recognise a lot of what's been said already. The active birth display when they're all in bed! The aggressive boyfriend. The birth outfit! I found that my instinct with both labours was to move around a lot. I walked up and down endlessly and could not have laid down. As for outfits, they got me straight out the bath and into delivery with DS2 (antenatal ward is where you go initially and then to delivery when you're close to the actual birth, we don't have the integrated rooms yet) so my outfit was er not a lot. Thankfully they wrapped my dressing gown round me and pulled a sheet over me on the trolley going up! Interesting series. My US based relatives are Shock that I've had two babies with no epidurals.
