Best and Worst Things about Pregnancy

Well it's finally Friday! How about a (lighthearted) chat about things that you like most and least about being pregnant (leaving aside the joys and excitement of impending motherhood etc)
For me, the best thing is not having to hold in my stomach for 9 months!!!!
The worst? Well I have to confess to missing my fave tipple......a shot of Absolut, ice cold Diet-Coke, and a wedge of lime...yum yum!
Anyone else?

Best things:

Being able to look fat with style
Being able to eat junk and put it down to unavoidable cravings
Feeling the kicks (ahhhhhh)
Having the scans
Time off work!

Worst things
Not being able to take flu relief
Sinus pain
stretch marks
DH refusing to touch the bump
SPD

best:
the kicks
knowing you are growing a little person in there
your partner treating you like a Princess

worst:
SPD, SPD and erm SPD
heartburn
not being able to bend over properly
waiting for the baby to come out
Braxton hicks
peeing every 10 mins
wearing the same clothes every day

can you tell I'm 39+6 weeks pregnant today!!!

mancmum · 13/01/2006 09:13

best -- the feeling that you are growing someone that you are going to love wildly for the rest of your life... having the baby all to yourself

Worst -- knowing you will have to share the baby when it is born... I wanted exclusive rights!!

KristinaM · 13/01/2006 09:17

the best has to be having no AF for a long time. Esp if you breast feed

Flamesparrow · 13/01/2006 09:30

Best - First flutters, my boobs actually looking small in comparison to my belly
Worst - Milk allergy (thats just me I know), morning sickness, exhaustion.

fastasleep · 13/01/2006 09:39

I liked holding the babies afterwards and thinking 'wow... I made the most amazing thing...' and of course the kicks and the bump stroking and the scans and hubby hugs ...ah...

Don't want to be reminded of the horrors! Never going there again!

fastasleep · 13/01/2006 09:40

That is, stroking my own bump... everyone else could go away!

Enid · 13/01/2006 10:01

Best things
knowing I am going to have a lovely little baby at the end of it and I will be a mum of THREE!!
Worst thing
not being able to drink lovely lovely red wine

petunia · 13/01/2006 10:04

Best- no AF for ages (I've found with b/feeding it's taken 18 months for them to come back.
Feeling the kicks. Hearing DDs talk about the new baby. Scans (especially seeing DD1s face when we went for the last one).
Worst- exhaustion. Feeling those "shooting pains" as everything gets bigger. Insomnia. Having to take my wedding ring off because my fingers have swelled (along with my tummy!)

Jasnem · 13/01/2006 10:08

Best - definitely the kicks,
Worst - tiredness/insomnia/exhaustion/heartburn

munz · 13/01/2006 12:11

best so far - kicks.
worst so far - leaky boobs feeling hugge and kicks when i'm trying to sleep! lol.

not long to go!

zephyrcat · 13/01/2006 12:15

Best: Kicks - and sharing them with dp and dd. Also love the scans and the whole idea of being able to create a whole other human being!

Worst: Feeling crap!! SPD, tired, tired, tired!!

munz · 13/01/2006 12:20

ooh yes loved the scan as well and seeing jnr punching/kicking about.

expatinscotland · 13/01/2006 12:39

Best: Delivery, maternity leave, no AF

Worst: heartburn/acid reflux, food restrictions, water retention, sinusitis, not being able to take most over the counter drugs, bump, nausea and vomitting, not being able to walk as much as you want or bend over.

Can you tell I loathe being pregnant?

Tatties · 13/01/2006 12:54

Best: the kicks!

Worst: HEARTBURN! Nausea, weeing all the time, feeling your body is not your own...

colditz · 13/01/2006 12:59

Best - maternity leave, the second it comes out and you realise for the first time in 9 months you can put the baby down and lie on your tummy!

Worst - my friends, relatives and work colleagues keeping forgetting I am pregnant, and accusing me of being lazy when I put my feet up, and of having a "heavy night" when I feel tired and sick!

amanada · 13/01/2006 13:32

Best - Not having to breathe in, plus i like the feeling that you're never alone! (That looks odd written down)
Worst - Knowing that if you drop something on the floor it's going to be a major operation to retrieve it. And trying to turn over in bed at night accompanied by DHs hilarious "whale" comments

bardot · 13/01/2006 14:08

Best - having the firmest tummy out of all my friends.
The attention and feeling special.
Glorious huge boobs.

Worst - Heartburn
Indigestion
Piles
Sickness
Constipation
Bloating
swollen feet
Thrush
exhaustion
not being able to put on socks
No booze (sob)

thebecster · 13/01/2006 14:26

Best: the flutters, seeing the baby at the scans, my DH doing EVERYTHING around the house, talking to my Mum & understanding her better (although we've always been close), and I love it when someone gives me a seat on the Tube

Worst: vomiting, vomiting, vomiting. And the way that (mostly childless) people now feel entitled to make all kinds of judgements about me/my career/my weight/my diet, and to tell me about them in a sanctimonious holier-than-thou way... eg.
'you won't want to work after the baby' (I'm the main breadwinner),
'you're really huge aren't you? that can't be all the baby' (do you think it's okay for me to reply 'And what's your excuse for being fat?' ???),
And the classic...
'You don't mind if I smoke do you?.... Oh you ARE taking it all very seriously aren't you?' (I'm also asthmatic and once nearly died from an asthmatic reaction to cigarette smoke. I'd rather not die while pregnant. I suppose that is a bit overly serious of me...)
Oh and I also seem to be a bit irritable these days

jersey · 13/01/2006 14:54

Best:
Knowing there is a baby on the way.
No worrying about looking fat.
Buying baby stuff.

Worst:
Sciatica pain.
Sickness.
Discomfort.
Exhaustion.
Not being able to take anything for a bad cold.

pucca · 13/01/2006 15:05

Worst...Morning sickness!! Bleurgh!!, and SPD.

Best....Everything else lol.

cull · 13/01/2006 15:33

Worst was the heartburn. And feeling pereptually uncomfortable for the last 2 months.
The best:
-feeling so good about my body for the first time in...well, for the first time! I felt so beautiful!
-stroking the bump (it's taken me months to get out of that habit!) and being kicked back.
-the anticipation of finding out who's been in there all that time.
-Oh, and being able to stay in bed all the time without feeling guilty!

harpsichordcarrier · 13/01/2006 15:40

god I loved it all
looking like a bloody goddess (pregnancy goggles...)
feeling the kicks
feeling frisky all the time
everyone being nice to you all the time
having something wonderful to look forward to
having a little person growing inside you
not having to think about what to wear

I concede that I MAY have been a tiny bit vomitty now and then and yes ok a little touch of excruciating pelvic pain but I have forgotten it already....
[I love being pregnant btw....]
