Are we having a drink on Christmas Day?

Thinking about the lovely bottle of red wine in the cupboard a little bit too much. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have barely had a couple of glasses of wine since I fell pregnant. This is my third, so wild nights out haven't really been a feature of my life for a looooong time.

I'm thinking I could have a glass of red with lunch around 4pm and then maybe another glass at about 8pm before conking out on the sofa with a movie. At least there's an excuse for having an enormous tummy! I'm bypassing the champagne at breakfast so I can have 2 glasses of wine later on the day. I've not had any other alcohol in the week as I've been saving up.....

What do you think?

I have one glass of wine a week when pg. I may be a little more lenient over Xmas day and boxing day but prob wouldn't do two glasses on one day. Am thinking glass of champagne Xmas day eve and small wine boxing day lunch.

Most people I know abstain totally when of and think I'm odd...

Bucks fizz would be better than wine as it's diluted

I LOVE the smell of red wine since being pregnant. I hadn't really considered drinking on Christmas Day, I am preoccupied awaiting labour Xmas Grin but now that you've mentioned it I may join you and have a glass, although I'm likely to spend hours sniffing it Wine

TopazMortmain · 24/12/2011 11:44

I have a mini bottle of champagne from M&S which has 2.4 units. I will give my DH half a unit and have the rest for breakfast with my presents and bacon sandwich Grin

34 weeks

Yes, no problem. NHS say you can have up to 2 units of wine a couple of times a week with no proof of any harm or problems. That is I guess one glass of wine, 2 times a week. So if you've been good this week you can have two glasses on xmas day.

I'll certainly be having a sip of red wine! (19.5 weeks)

spannermary · 24/12/2011 12:00

I'm planning on a small glass of red with lunch. If I feel like a small glass of something in the evening I'll have it, but who knows?

If not, I'll save it up for Boxing Day! I've had about 3 half glasses since finding out I was pregnant, and I'm confident this is totally fine. I wouldn't have 2 consecutively, though - i'll wait for the first lot to wear off a bit!

25 weeks.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 24/12/2011 12:02

I don't really fancy it tbh.

BUT if i liked wine/champagne I would definately be having a small glass or two.

TheOnlyWayIsEnfield · 24/12/2011 12:05

Yep, definitely. Not eating the cheese, pate, or any of the other yum, but getting in there with a nice glass of something, fo sho. I have indulged in the odd beverage throughout the pregnancy, maybe once a month on average, I would estimate.

37 weeks.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Crosshair · 24/12/2011 12:32

I havent had a drink yet, but I might if the mood takes me. :)

IHeartIona · 24/12/2011 12:43

I am planning to have a small glass of wine or perhaps two tomorrow, am 34 weeks and haven't had a drop so far so treating myself tomorrow!

Vinolover · 24/12/2011 12:44

Im not planning on it as im only 7 weeks and feeling a little delicate still. I could well change my mind though. I used to enjoy a small bottle of beer when pregnant with DD even though I'm a wine drinker!

I say go for it if you fancy it :)

sillymillyb · 24/12/2011 13:16

Im 27 weeks and craving bucks fizz (this is better than my earlier desires for jack daniels I suppose) so will be having 3 glasses tomorrow - breakfast, lunch and supper.... there are only 0.5 units per glass in the bottle I have bought though so whilst Im treating myself I don't feel bad at all. BLISS!!!

broccolitrees · 24/12/2011 13:17

enjoy it if you want it. unfortnately i feel far too rough to contemplate wine, but a nip of brandy or bailey's, and it really is only a nip that's needed, settles ms beautifully [frgin]

before i get shot down in flames, i am not advocating liqueurs as a cure for ms and i only have a taste of dh's less than once a week Xmas Grin

hairytaleofnewyork · 24/12/2011 14:48

No, I havent had any alcohol at all and I'm 36 weeks pregnant. Not a big drinker anyway and happy to abstain for the duration - hardly seems worth it for a couple of units.

NorthernGirlie · 24/12/2011 14:59

go for it - AND enjoy it :) We give up enough for 9 months - I'm sure it'll be fine :) x

Grumpla · 24/12/2011 15:06

I'm going to have a glass of champagne today and one tomorrow.

The rest of the time I will console myself with mulled apple juice.

Flisspaps · 24/12/2011 15:11

25+2, had a homemade Baileys during the week and will have one or two wines tomorrow.

Guidance on alcohol is just that - guidance. It is heavy, regular drinking that causes FAS, not an occasional glass of your favourite drink (unless your preference is a pint of vodka-snakebite)

Commutinghell · 24/12/2011 16:24

I've found I suddenly love White wine spritzers so will have a few of those over the next couple of weeks Wink

JambalayaWarmMincePie · 24/12/2011 16:28

I had a glass of rose at a meal with friends last night, my first drink in 4 months!

Am planning on having another glass with Lunch tomorrow, and another at the Boxing Day bash, but that'll probrably be it until my birthday in March!

Im not a big drinker anyway, so not really all that fussed!

guinealady · 24/12/2011 16:37

I had a white wine spritzer at a friend's birthday on the 22nd, but it took me forever to drink it...I'm hoping I can keep up this 'make one drink last 3 hours' technique I seem to have developed.

Will have a glass of fizz on Xmas day, and maybe half a glass at another family gathering we're going to a couple of days later. Then just a little sip of something on NYE.

Does that seem like too much? Everyone else seems to be drinking a lot less than me...

BelleRomford74 · 24/12/2011 16:41

Alcohol is the only thing I have been craving all pregnancy!!! In the summer all I wanted was a nice Pimms & lemonade & when I had a cold & cough I could literally taste Baileys every time I shut my eyes!! I have'nt indulged as yet & not a big wine drinker but do you think a small Tia Maria & coke might be ok on the big day?? Not sure of units in that??!!
I gave up smoking 2 years ago but also been craving a crafty fag!! (also not indulged!)...but think it must be a reflection of my rebelious nature!! lol Xmas Wink

scarletforya · 24/12/2011 16:50

I don't think I will. I'm still a little bit queasy so I'm afraid it would make me lose my lunch!

AllIWant85 · 24/12/2011 16:56

Belle I completely understand. I woke up at 3am the other morning craving a fag and a vokda orange!!! I gave up smoking just before TTC and I've been tee total for YEARS now!!

Makes no sense whatsoever!! Only reasoning I have is now that I'm "not allowed" my rebellious side is taunting me!! I think it's like when you are a kid and were told "don't touch that" It just makes you want to!! Xmas Grin
