I can't believe i am 40+11 and not so much a sniff of a baby, will be having sweep number 4 tomorrow. This is dc 3 and I am supposed to be having a HB but time is swiftly running out. I spent most of last night sobbing. I'm not even having BH anymore. Anyone got some nice stories about quick babies that turned up late with no prelabour?

My DC2 turned up at 40+7. I had a sweep on the Saturday but the midwife announced that my cervix was so high and 'unripe' she couldn't do a sweep. Mention was made of induction. I left really really glum. In the evening I had a sort of sensation in tops of legs. Thought it couldn't be labour with what had happened earlier. I was in birthing unit by 1.30am and had DC2 at 5.30am on Sunday morning. The midwife who'd examined me on the Saturday was really stunned when summoned to help delivery!

MrsMcEnroe · 12/12/2011 18:02

Aw you poor love, fingers crossed that you go into labour tonight and don't need that sweep after all.

BobblyGussets · 12/12/2011 18:05

Try massaging your hamstrings to stimulate the uterus. It is a really powerful acupressure point.

Good luck, I hope it happens for you soon and quickly.

bobbly now of all the repetitive suggestions I have heard, sex, pineapple, curry bumpy roads etc that is one I haven't heard, will definitely give it a go. I have been having acupuncture from 38 weeks as this is the 3rd time I've been overdue but it hasn't made any difference have had reflexology twice too, should have just saved the money to day 10 and then gone and bought myself a mulberry handbag, that would have cheered me up.

i think some people just have longer pregnancies than others. my DD was 17 days over, and didnt even look like an overdue baby.

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 12/12/2011 18:29

My other 2 were ten days and they never looked overdue either Jenny although they were very large for my size, I can't believe how much bigger this baby has got since 40 weeks probably to do with the fact that I am now boredom eating Hmm

sorry missed missed your post Mrs mc enroe was so excited by the hamstring rubbing, thank you I would love to think it would be tonight but sadly I doubt it although the house has been immaculate for the last month and today I have given up bothering so sods law might just go and eat the midwife biscuits to make sureGrin

haven't you seen nickelbabe's thread in childbirth?? she had a homebirth last night at 40+15.
3rd babies can be tricky and do unexpected things. i ha 2 days of stop/start contractions with mine and went overdue after definate starts on time with my other 2.

as hard as it is, just relax and try to forget about it. it could have been my body's way of telling me baby was ready, but when i stopped worrying about when it would start it did.

chocolateyclur · 12/12/2011 18:43

I'm going through the same thing. Currently 9 days overdue and sure I'm not going to make it without induction Sad

Flisspaps · 12/12/2011 18:55

You cannot stay pregnant forever. Either way - with or without induction - baby has to come out sometime. Also - you're NOT overdue until 40+14 as normal 'average' pregnancy is anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks.

From saying your other two didn't appear to be overdue when they were born, you just seem to be someone that naturally takes a bit longer than others.

Induction is your choice, so you can take it if you want but you don't have to. It's about doing what's right for you and your baby and only you can decide that.

Eating the MWs biscuits is a good idea.

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 12/12/2011 18:57

Yes i've been on nickels thread from the beginning, it's been lovely. I have tried to stay really positive but yesterday was a turning point i've been up since 2am after being woken by dd, thanks dd. In my head I was prepared for the 10 days but today getting to 11 with no sign of impending labour is just horrible, i've worked really hard at hypnobirthing and staying really fit throughout this pregnancy and for it to end in induction makes me Sad. I feel like i've let the tiger into the room now because i'm having a massive wobble, was so chilled before yesterday.

I was induced with baby no 1, it was traumatic to say the least, refused it after a long battle with baby 2 but ended up with very large baby and 2nd degree tear i was advised to come in at 10 days so 14 has been compromise and i don't feel i can mentally go past that now, i'm still looking after other dc and it's exhausting they break up from school on Thursday for 3 weeks so instead of having my lovely settling in period i'm going to have them all home.

Yes I know i can't stay pregnant forever it doesn't mean I can't get down about how things are panning out . The lack of sleep is killing me.

choc it's hard isn't it, have you booked in for induction.

Massaging around the inner ankle bone in a circular motion is another uterine acupressure point. Wink

nowwearefour · 12/12/2011 19:26

i was in your shoes youtalk with dd2. she turned up that night! (with no pre-labour). i had as many sweeps as i could get hold of (and was booked in for an accupuncture appointment the following day). have you tried self -pleasuring as my birthing centre encouraged me to- achieve an orgasm and you are v likely to go into labour at this point!

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 12/12/2011 19:31

That gives me hope now have not tried self sorting but have been demanding sex twice a day until yesterday today decided i would no longer bother as it has become rather unpleasant for all involved.

My third was 42+4 and there were no problems. He clearly wasn't overdue for him, as he looked completely normal. He weighed 9lbs and the placenta was fine as well.

I was going out of my head with boredom, though, and I would strongly recommend some dramatic redecorating as a physical distraction technique, or remodelling the garden (I tried both!) Offroad biking was useful as well. Alternatively go on a minibreak within an hour or so's drive from home.

BoffinMum · 12/12/2011 19:40

BTW when he did come it all took about 3 hours in total.

FruitShootsSantaandLeaves · 12/12/2011 19:44

Mine were 14, 15 and 13 days overdue and 1 was just bloody awkward

I never had a sweep, wasn't offered it. I also politely declined induction after the first time.

Don't get upset about it. It's the 'haven't you had it yet' comments that make it worse. Make the most of more sleeping time Xmas Grin

madmomma · 12/12/2011 19:45

Oh mistletoe I feel your pain. It's a horrible, horrible place to be. I've been there with both mine - 1st 17 days over (refused ind) 2nd 14days over (begged for induction, which was horrible). I'm now due with no 3 on xmas eve, and I just know she won't show up until the 2nd week of Jan. I don't think you can understand how grim and depressing it is to be at this point unless you've experienced it firsthand. It's so true that every minute feels like an hour etc etc. I'm chasing after my 1yr old whilst wincing from SPD, so I totally sympathise with you having the kids all at home just when you need rest the most. I'm interested to hear about the acupressure points - going to have a go at those myself. Was contemplating acupuncture, but it's £££ and if it doesn't work I'd want to do something truly evil with those needles! I am at a loss whether to accept induction or wait it out. It's such a shitty, shitty decision to have to make. I really hope your baby comes soon, and in the meantime, much, much sympathy. x

RobynLou · 12/12/2011 19:46

DD2 was 40+11, hadn't had any signs of labour, went in for a sweep 2 days earlier and she couldn't even reach my cervix, it was so unready. was booked to go in for induction in the morning, had been told baby was huge and thought I was in for a nightmare.
Then I had a contraction at 5am, was 5cm when I arrived at hospital at 6am, DD2 born at 9am 10lb 3oz, back to back but no interventions or drugs needed.
Don't despair!

RobynLou · 12/12/2011 19:48

oooh there's a website about the acupressure thing, we did that, don't know if thats what got things started but it did no harm, will see if I can find the link.

Milliways · 12/12/2011 19:48

DS arrived at 40+13 (day before induction booked), in a total labour of 1.5 hours, one push only needed for his head (he then opened his mouth, screamed & filled his lungs with only his head out!) and weighed in a 9lb 6oz. :)

EdlessAllenPoe · 12/12/2011 19:48

hmm. do you think large babies are just how you make them, and you have a longer gestation in order to make the bigger baby?

you still have three days and everything can happen in that time. my sister asked me 'how will i know i am going into labour.''...well, the last two times, ..the fact i was in labour was a dead give away. Very little other than a kind of feeling the night before.

we were also redecorating the house and i didn't feel ready until everything was back in place, and i'd had a obsessive nesting spreee good tidy up afters.
