I can't believe i am 40+11 and not so much a sniff of a baby, will be having sweep number 4 tomorrow. This is dc 3 and I am supposed to be having a HB but time is swiftly running out. I spent most of last night sobbing. I'm not even having BH anymore. Anyone got some nice stories about quick babies that turned up late with no prelabour?

Not booked in yet. I was going to refuse induction but have been told that if I go with medical management I have to go to hospital anyway instead of midwife unit. It's another medicalised, instrumental birth that terrifies me (bad experience with DS) and irrationally I have linked that with any hospital birth. Therefore refusing induction at this point seems futile as they'll make me birth in hospital anyway (homebirth isn't for me) so I'll probably be booked for one tomorrow when I have my 3rd sweep Sad

" very large baby and 2nd degree tear i was advised to come in at 10 days so 14 has been compromise "

the NICE guidelines now include a bit about induction not being recommended just cos baby might be big. second degree tear...well, nasty, but you might have a baby exactly the same size or larger without tearing, and induction doesn't decrease the likelihood of a tear, does it?. I didn't tear at all with my largest baby, cos the nice MW told me to just take it easy and pant him out.

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 12/12/2011 20:11

edless that's exactly what my Dm said this am, her latest baby was 3 weeks overdue and biggest baby was 10lb 5. Perhaps they just have to get to a certain size before the come out.

choc I can't have a hb after 14 days over my issue is partly with being in the hospital rather than the induction itself so I agree that at that point I may as well just go for it.

Dh has just massaged my hamstrings and done all those acupressure points his job is in sports, he thought it was a good idea to rough me to avoid having to have sex with me again up in the same way as his physio does to him, bloody hell that hurt, rethinking natural birth.

The size thing actually relates to ds's shoulders being large and a bit stuck hence the tear refused an episiotomy there has been a bit of a to do about this Hb all the way along and feel that for me by day 14 i have given it a pretty good shot but can't face arguing anymore.

The irony is i was booked for a section at 38 weeks becuse it was breech was cancelled about 3 days before as baby did last minute flip i was so pleased not to be having a CS now I feel like rocking up and demanding one Grin

I had DS2 at 41+13 at my MLU less than 24 hours before my induction was booked at the local hospital so there's definitely still time. I really hope it happens for you too as I remember feeling totally gutted at the thought of having to go to hospital. Fingers crossed. LCN

lechatnoir · 12/12/2011 20:23

oh, and he was 9lb13 and not a hint of wrinkled over-cookedness or so much as graze for me Grin

moreyear · 13/12/2011 07:46

I was induced at 40 +12 the poor wee thing was only 5lb 10 - my placenta must have given up the ghost. I hope your baby arrives soon those extra days seem endless.

Grohlsgirl · 13/12/2011 09:37

I'm 40+1 and already driving myself crackers so god knows how frustrated you must be feeling! I'm trying to distract myself with day to day stuff, but not sure i would be able to keep it up for another 10 days. I definitely think eating the midwives biscuits is a plan, i'm considering deflating the birthing pool just to see if the law of Sod can be proven...

Fingers crossed for some labour action for all of us today...

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 13/12/2011 12:39

Feeling more positive today, have had some sleep. Sweep this am went well very favourable etc and she did give me a really good sweep but so far nothing apart from a very wriggly baby. Have been in touch with supervisor of Mws about my induction to put together a plan for the most natural induction possible IYSWIM will hopefully just have ARM and then in the pool but we'll see what they say i'm aware things don't always go to plan but it's a good starting point.

Grohl my pool is downstairs mocking me and we only put it up about 5 days ago. off to watch Ds first nativity dreading facing everybody but it has to be done.

Fantastic news that they're willing to suit your needs! Hopefully the positive feelings will encourage an appearance anyway Grin

My induction is booked for Thurs, and I have a feeling I will be spending tomorrow glaring at my stomach, willing it to contract.

Flisspaps · 13/12/2011 23:29

I'm very pleased that you're feeling much more positive - fingers and everything crossed for you that baby decides to make a last minute bid for freedom before you get to Thursday Grin

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 14/12/2011 07:49

Day 13 today and my body is deciding to do the pre labour bit now Xmas Angry having mild contractions lasting a min every 5 minutes since last night that have progressed to nothing.
The Midwife, a man, is coming to meet me today to discuss the plan for tomorrow. I feel quite happy about the induction now they're giving me my own way, I just have to hope my body complies and does the labour bit without the drugs.

Good luck with it all,bet you just want to get on with it now.
Make sure you update Grin

Grohlsgirl · 14/12/2011 08:13

Good luck You, hope things get moving for you today. I'm off to have a growth scan this morning as baby is measuring small, although judging by the kickboxing she was doing last night her size has not impacted in her strength, ouch! Fingers crossed everything is ok and homebirth is still an option, really want to avoid induction unless it's absolutely necessary...

Flisspaps · 17/12/2011 09:33

Morning youtalkintome

I hope all went well for you yesterday (whether you were induced or whether your body had done enough of the build up at the last minute for you to go naturally and be at home)
