Congratulations Jemma. I've been following the ttc thread and know you've been trying for awhile.

M2T · 06/11/2003 10:26

Is your due date not the 6th July?? That's 40 wks from 30 September!

I'm obsessed.

Some advice for you.....
Be prepared for your body to change immensely! I don't mean the bump, I mean your appetite, taste, hair and nails, skin etc etc...
Not necessarily in a bad way, my hair and nails have never been so healthy and strong as they were when I was pregnant!

Also, try not to get too obsessed with what you should and shouldn't be doing/eating. There are somethings which are mostly common sense, like alcohol/cigarettes/caffeine.... but if you read everything you weren't allowed you'r be living on thin air!!!

Most of all..... ENJOY IT!
I'll be joining you soon I hope.

ThomCat · 06/11/2003 10:30

Ohhh how exciting.

The best thing I did when I was pregnant was keep a journal of how I felt, what my body was doing and go to active birth classes - like gentle yoga but with chats inbetween and herbal teas!

Jemma7 · 06/11/2003 10:39

Oh Shit, completely forgot about Caffeine - have been hooked lately!

Will have to put a stop to that one - SIL was saying last night about not having fresh cream or mayonnaise - I LOVE MAYONNAISE.

I'm not going to go mad but obviously don't want to put baby at risk so will stop everything that they have a valid reason for stopping.

You are right M2T - lost a week somewhere there - 6th of July is my due date

Haven't got a July thread yet

Congratulations Jemma7 lovely news

sassy · 06/11/2003 10:43

Congrats, Jemma!
Just to say shop-bought mayo is fine cos the eggs have been pasteurised. Home-made stuff is off-limits though.

Azure · 06/11/2003 10:43

Great news Jemma7. Such an exciting time - the period until your 12 week scan will seem endless. I hope the Gods of pregnancy will be kind to you now!

Wills · 06/11/2003 10:43

Congrats Jemma7.

As far as I was aware only fresh Mayonnaise is on the "banned" list as its made with raw eggs. Stuff like Helmans is fine as its made with processed egg. Having lost one between dd1 and dd2 I was fairly obsessed with with dd2's pregnancy and I can assure you ate Helmans mayo the whole way through. Not sure why not cream unless its that squirty cream because it comes in cans and the tops can get fairly ughy.

cazzybabs · 06/11/2003 10:44

Congrats - I think you can still have Helemons (sp) MAYONNAISE its just not the homemade ones with uncooked eggs. Don't forget red wine is good - esp in the last trimester. My midwife recommened it.

The scans are the best bit and feeling the baby move. Am very jealous and may have to join the ttc thread.

Gem13 · 06/11/2003 10:45

Congratulations Jemma7!

Fresh cream and mayonnaise are fine to eat when pregnant. Home made mayonnaise is not advised as it contains eggs but shop bought is ok.

This bump lives on fresh cream doughnuts!

M2T · 06/11/2003 10:48

Cream?? Never heard of not being allowed fresh cream! That's new one.

The obsession with not eating anything unpasteurised is a strange one. It's so you don't catch listeria or any form of sinister food poisoning..... but then again.... you wouldn't want to catch that when you're NOT pregnant either! I don't think you are at a greater risk of catching food poisoning when your pregnant. If you were then would you risk eating an Indian Takeaway??

I think some of the banned foods are a bit ridiculous.

Caffeine is okay in small doses and as far as I know is okay later on in pregnancy.

Jemma7 · 06/11/2003 10:49

See, you've helped me out already!

Just looking on the net now to see what i have to do about seeing the doctor and booking in with a midwive!
Dp wants to start picking out the buggy already

Jems don't get too excited about the doc thing. NOTHING happens! They just send a letter to the hospital and then about 678585858 years later (or so it seems) they invite you in for a booking appointment. I think I said on the other thread the other day that I couldn't understand why I wasn't crawling with medics being terribly interested in my non-bump and perfoming all sorts of tests on me. I am a very impatient person (always have to get my films developed in an hour for eg!) and the waiting was unbearable!

oliveoil · 06/11/2003 10:55

CD - . I also was puzzled that the doc didn't seem amazed and in awe of my pregnancy, I felt soooooooooooooooooooooooo special.

magnum · 06/11/2003 10:56

Just wanted to say congratulations, good luck & ENJOY EVERY MINUTE!!!!!!!!!

CountessDracula · 06/11/2003 10:58

It is amazing how special you feel when you're pregnant isn't it. You just feel like wearing an I AM PREGNANT t-shirt all the time!

M2T · 06/11/2003 10:58

Magnum.... have you read the "Anyone got a spare orgasm?" thread??
There's people talking about you quite a lot!

Jemma7 - I found out when I was 5 weeks pg... it does take 4 million years for the 12 week scan!

bunny2 · 06/11/2003 11:03

Jems, I knew it!! Well done and many congratulations, I know how much you want this and it's fab news. I'm dead chuffed for you.
My only advice is to enjoy your pregnancy, it is such an amazing time, buy some mags and become obsesed with the babys development. You lucky girl!

Jemma7 · 06/11/2003 11:08

That is exactly what i plan to do Bunny

When did you all tell your bosses? My circumstances are different but just wondered.

OP posts:
Helsbels · 06/11/2003 11:13

Here I am again!! I had to tell my boss about 2 weeks after I found out because I had just started a new job and we were moving office so I couldn't lift anything heavy - he gave me a big hug and said congratulations even tho' he was a bit p***d off!!! It was with the same company so I had known him for about 11 years

motherinferior · 06/11/2003 11:15

I never knew I wasn't supposed to drink coffee till about 3 weeks before dd1 was born. Kept the espresso intake regular. And a fairly frequent glass of red wine too. She's fine.

magnum · 06/11/2003 11:17

M2T.... think I might change my name!!!

Janstar · 06/11/2003 11:44

Super

Bozza · 06/11/2003 11:46

Told mine today. I am 12 weeks. She had not suspected as thought she might but was great.

M2T soembody told me that you shouldn't eat takeaways but I think you can take these things too far.

Congrats Jemma
