Could I be pregnant?

Hi, not been trying, just been careless (already have 2 ds and would love another baby) I am due on now, nothing happened so far, just tender breasts, bloating, sleeping heavily at night and dreaming like mad! I did have stomach cramps (like period pains) yesterday and thought I would come on, the pains have gone but I don't feel pregnant - do you think I would know? Or is it too early, I don't want to do a test yet as I may get my period this weekend, and if the test is negative I know I would be a little disappointed.

If you've had unprotected sex then yes, of course you could. You wouldn't necessarily "know" that you were pregnant either ... the only way to find out is to test.

Aloha · 05/01/2006 10:10

Always amazed by these posts tbh. If you are fertile (ie under 50) and you don't use contraception when you have sex, then of course you could be pregnant! But nobody on a website can tell you if you are.

misdee · 05/01/2006 10:14

if you';ve had unprotected sex then yes you could be.

NomDePlume · 05/01/2006 10:14

me too, aloha

zenia · 05/01/2006 10:16

The thing is I am a little scared as I had a little girl who was still born 6 years ago, and am worried that I may not be fertile, as we have had unprotected sex in the past and nothing has happened, I was just wondering if it was too early to know, I don't think I will ask again, when people like Aloha send replies as hostile as that! I do know that a website can't tell me, I was just asking for some advice on how early on you could tell if you may be pregnant.

NomeDePlume, if you have no advice, then please do not add unhelpful comments.

You can do a test from the day you are due.

WigWamBam · 05/01/2006 10:19

The fact you haven't fallen pregnant before doesn't mean you are infertile, just that you didn't fall pregnant on those occasions.

You can test on the day your period is due. And if you're worried then maybe you should test today, just to put your mind at rest.

Aloha · 05/01/2006 10:19

It's not hostile. It's true. How can we - on the other side of a computer screen - possibly diagnose your pregnancy? And of course you could be pregnant.

NomDePlume · 05/01/2006 10:20

I think First Response can give you an even earlier result though (don't quote me on that).

zenia · 05/01/2006 10:20

That is not what I asked, I was wondering how EARLY on I would be able to tell, If you think I am asking something ridiculous, then why bother relying, surely you have better things to do?

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 05/01/2006 10:22

HELLO ????

FIRST RESPONSE ARE AN EARLY PREG TESTING KIT.

Be aware that the result may not be all that clear though, the HCG might not be 'strong' enough yet to be clearly detected.

zenia · 05/01/2006 10:22

I am dying to take a test, just my periods are a little irregular and sometimes I think I am going to get one and I miss it altogether, maybe I will buy a first response and try now, just hope I am not too early!

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 05/01/2006 10:23

Fingers crossed for you.

mummytosteven · 05/01/2006 10:23

it is theoretically possible for a First Response test to detect PG up to 4 days before your period (but they can give false negatives if you test that early). If you are regular as clockwork, and this is out of the norm, you might as well get a test. If you're normally a bit irregular, I'ld probably wait a few days more.

zenia · 05/01/2006 10:24

Sorry NomeDePlume, that message wasn't for you, you must have sent yours when I was writing mine, I don't think I will bother with mumsnet. Thanks for all the helpful comments left.

misdee · 05/01/2006 10:26

first response tests are good. with other tests with dd1+2 i got faint positives on day period due, used a 1st response with dd3, and it was a very strong positive, i literally put a drop of wee on the stick and there was aline. no mistake there.

NomDePlume · 05/01/2006 10:28

Zenia, In your first post you mentioned nothing about your fertility concerns. We get so many of these sorts of threads, wording in almost the exact same way as yours and I think people just get a little frustrated by the seemingly obvious nature of the answer. Whether or not you give MN another go is entirely up to you, but I would urge you to, it is a helpful, honest place to be, most of the time.

NomDePlume · 05/01/2006 10:29

Sorry for my exceedingly dodgy grammar in the last post !

WigWamBam · 05/01/2006 10:30

Zenia, don't be put off from using MN. This is a question that comes up again and again, and a surprising amount of the posters who start threads like this really do seem surprised that having unprotected sex could have left them pregnant!

Have a look around, read some of the threads - you will find an awful lot of support here if you need it.

oliveoil · 05/01/2006 10:31

You are coming across as a teeny bit hormonal so maybe you are pregnant!

I did the First Response one v early and got a clear sign and I think you can now get digital ones (??) that say either 'PREGNANT' or 'NOT PREGNANT' so you are not peering and squinting at a window searching for a blue line.

zenia · 05/01/2006 10:35

Thanks WigWamBam, I am not put off by MN, I should have realised there must be millions of questions on this subject, I am just a little anxious, and to be honest, it was quicker to just post my own message, NomDePlume - I find it hard writing it down, without it sounding like a load of dribble! I think I will wait until after the weekend to take a test now, I am not brave enough to do it before, as I will probably be disappointed.

OP posts:
zenia · 05/01/2006 10:36

I think I do sound hormonal, but I do suffer bad PMS, so maybe I am due my period!

OP posts:
oliveoil · 05/01/2006 10:38

get ye to Boots woman and stop faffing about.

We will expect a report back by noon.

xx

zenia · 05/01/2006 10:39

I can't! I have butterflies now!
