Hi all,

I am just wondering what reaction you got from your other half when you announced you were pregnant?

I think my partner was quite funny really, I hadnfas that we were pregnant. Anyway we didn't think that was it at all and perhaps it was because I had just reduced my caffinee intake.

Anyway after another few days, when we were texting my partner suggested that I take a pregnancy test. So off off to Sainsbury's I go and take them both as soon as I get home. Both positive, so I try to call him and no luck so I just send a text saying "Im pregnant" his Response "are you joking" my response "no". Needles to say call and he is in shock and has to go for a cuppa. Post cuppa he calls back and we joke well we did buy a house to grow into, we will just grow into it quicker than planned.

So in under 8 weeks of becoming a couple we bought a house and found out that rather than an office, our room and two guest rooms we will have one guest room and a nursery.

It still makes me smile that my partner had to go and have the British cure for everything a cup of tea.

I would like to hear your stories,

YM1xxx

As soon as i thought I might be PG (about 10 days DPO) I told my other half my suspicions. We were purposely ttc so he was expecting it and to be honest I knew I was. Then when i was a couple of days late we decided to take a test and did it togther - such love, he dipped the stick in my pot of wee and we watched it change to positive together! I couldn't imagine even taking the test without him there too.

kiki22 · 07/11/2011 16:03

I phoned mine from work, i couldn't wait until i got home was convinced it must be neg but turned out poss he phoned me at lunch time and could tell straight away there was something wrong so i blurted it out... He told me to keep it and when he got home demanded to see the test and spend 5 mins looking at it to see if i read it wrong hehe.

We had only moved in to our house by a week and funny enough jokes about how our spare room was no longer going to be spare :)

Had you only been together for 8 weeks when you found out?

PrincessAppleSeed · 07/11/2011 16:18

1am in the morning! He looked at it completely dazed when I woke him up, unsure what the lines meant. Totally didn't believe me until I did a digi and it said "pregnant" (at 1.05am!)

Bear in mind, this was after 20 months of TTC and we were already lined up to start IVF. So it wasn't the result we were expecting after months of disappointment.

Complete and utter joy!!

Mikocat · 07/11/2011 16:34

I was one day late (big deal for me) and we'd been TTC for a year, so we were both hopeful.

I'd decided to test first thing, but woke up an hour early and decided to do it then.

Woke him up to tell him the news, he went from asleep to wide awake in about 2 seconds, he thought by the shock in my voice that something dreadful had happened. He was thrilled, I think he found it easier to believe than I did.

He managed to keep it to himself until 7 a.m. when he 'phoned him Mum!

I told DH after doing two tests at home. For some reason that day I felt like buying pregnancy tests and baby socks :)
I wrapped on of the pair of socks in some wrapping paper and gave it to him. Took him about a minute to understand what it was... then another to realise what I was trying to tell him. It was actually quite hilarious!
But, finally in the end he was ecstatic and did a bit of a huggy jig.

BikeRunSki · 07/11/2011 19:08

I told him both times in person:

DS (DC1) - Well, it's hardly a surprise.
DD (DC2) - DH: "Why haven't you gone to pick up DS?" Me"I need to tell you something when he is not around" DH: "You're pregnant aren't you?"

pramsgalore · 07/11/2011 19:13

ffs, that was his response, to be fair it was number 4 and he had had the snip 6 weeks before, my dates worked out i fell preg 2 weeks before he had the snip Grin ho hum, his fault he kept delaying have it done

babybunintheoven · 07/11/2011 19:20

I was 5 days late so stopped off to pick up some tests on the way home. They were the digital ones that tell you how far along you are.

After the usual 3min wait, the test appeared with 'pregnant 1-2 weeks'. He looked at me and asked, "so, what does that mean then?"!! Grin

Uglymush · 07/11/2011 19:27

I was on my own, DH the other end of the country. I wasn't going to tell him until he came home on the Friday (this was Tuesday) but I was so excited. I asked him if he wanted a designated driver for the next 8 and a half months, took him a few seconds to twig I was offering to be a driver, not that his employer was offering him a chauffer!! He was then very excited. We had been TTC for 21 months but this was the first time it had been necessary to do a test.

Florin · 07/11/2011 19:37

We had been trying for 20 months and i was on clomid. I was a few days late (not unusual for me) but did feel different. I tested super early as was desperate for a wee dh had been having ago about me testing to find but I was to scared of it being negative. I woke up on Friday morning about 5 knowing I was desperate for a wee and I had promised I would test so rattled around trying to find a test. Line came up straight away sat there for a second just smiling to myself. Then sneaked back into bed spooned up to dh and whispered I had a new nick name for him he sleepily said what and I said Daddy. He quickly turned round with a huge smile on his face.

feekerry · 07/11/2011 19:43

i told him in person. he said he was off to the shop and would buy some biscuits Confused.... he didnt return for an hour, then turned up with some hob nobs. what he did in that hour i do not know!!!!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 07/11/2011 19:46

We were on honeymoon.

He said 'holy shit I'm going to be a Dad', paused for a moment and said 'I need a better job' Grin

OP - just a tip if you plan to stick around on MN, sign offs at the end of posts aren't usual.

DeeOfTheNorth · 07/11/2011 19:51

I had no idea I was pregnant. Was doing a clear out when I found an old pg test - as I was in by myself and bored i thought 'well, it's always fun to wee on a stick, isn't it!' so I did. Then saw a really faint line.

Panicked. Ran to Tesco and back to buy one of those tests that tells you 'pg' or 'not pg' (so I could be sure), squeezed out a bit more wee. Was definitely pg...

DH came home about half an hour later....Me (crying and in a wimpy voice): I've got something to tell you....I'm pregnant.... DH: That's BRILLIANT - and he gave me a massive hug Grin

Wormshuffler · 07/11/2011 19:53

My dh didn't believe the test as it was faint. He didn't believe it until I weed in a pot and took it to the chemist.
Then he bought me some flowers .

Yummymummyyobe1 · 07/11/2011 19:53

my dp had been bugging me for a while to do a test but i didn't like the disappointment of a negative result so had been putting it off, one morning he said "do a test today!" in a stern voice and off he drove to work, i went and did a test and there was the familiar faint line. i rang him and said " i think you should pull over" he got worried and i told him i was pregnant and his response was "oh...oh................................................................ok" i said id let the news settle in, apparently he didnt say a word to anyone at work all day because he was in shock, bless him.. :)

horseynewmum · 07/11/2011 20:11

Mine is carrying on like nothing has changed expect me being ill. I'm hoping that once we have the 12 wk scan and he see's for himself that its happening he may come round. It was a planned pregnancy

Flisspaps · 07/11/2011 20:29

DC1 - him Grin me Shock (planned, and it wasn't like I didn't know how it happened). I'd said to him that I thought I might be, he bought the test and knew when I'd done it.

DC2 - him Shock Grin me Shock - this time, I presented him with two +tests when he got up, I'd done one at 2am and another at 6am. He bloody well lay in until 8am as well, then had to rush off to work.

kiki22 · 07/11/2011 20:53

Did the test at 6am.
Fell off the toilet in surprise (we'd been ttc for 4 years, having fertility investigations and treatment for 2 years, this was our second IUI treatment and I was only doing the test because I'd been told to test 14 days later.)
Went upstairs with coffee for DH.
Gave him a kiss and told him to open his eyes and waved 2 pink lines under his nose.
He looked at it, grinned, put his head back under the pillow and said, "thank fuck for that. Now I don't have to wank in any more pots" and went back to sleep.
I love my DH, he always knows what to say Grin
DD was 10 wks old yesterday and she's AWESOME :)

Hotpotpie · 07/11/2011 21:28

I did mine without telling OH because id already had three negative ones that month but I KNEW I was pregnant, near fell off the loo when I got my two lines! My SD was round (shes only 4) so its was a coded flash of a stick and a big hug with me crying like a baby trying not to let SD see - lovely moment, right up until SD having a paddy because she had finished her drink lmao

justhayley · 07/11/2011 21:36

I had a bit of a "friends" moment when Rachel tells Ross she's pregnant - I told him and he said absolutely nothing for a few minutes then he looked at me and said how do you know? I then put 4 positive wee sticks on his lap. then he asked if I was in pain and jumped up and said I should eat something lol. I think he was in shock for 2days an then one night woke me up about 3am and to let me no he was happy about it - I just wanted to kick him out the house for waking me up at 3am!
I'm now 15 weeks and on Saturday he threw me on the sofa - then had a panic attack saying sorry I forgot ur not normal now! Lol
