love rory - dh and I couldn't agree at all on boys names and one evening, out for dinner I persuaded him into rory and he woke in the morning and agreed it was a great name so we were sorted. Later that day we met our neihghbour for the first time and she had a 7 week old baby called..... Rory and one of my criteria was that I didn't want to know anyone with the name we chose !! Anyway, luckily she was a girl and hopefully we'll have moved by the time we have another !!

Chandra · 14/12/2005 13:33

Not keen on Rory... As with any other names ending in ie and y, I think is cute for a boy buyt for an adult? no thanks.

eefs · 14/12/2005 13:35

love rory, although in the irish spelling it pronounced a little differently, more "u" than "o". I've seen it spelt as Ruaridh, Ruari or Ruary

Chandra · 14/12/2005 13:35

besides... the only Rory I have ever met was an alcoholic.

teuch · 14/12/2005 13:48

no like rory but I like the ruarie pronunciation (whatever scottish/irish way you spell it!)

also love fergus, cameron, ewan/euan, robbie, logie, callum, colm...lovely names!

Becca81 · 14/12/2005 13:50

there is Rory Bremnar.. and the bloke on the news called Rory. So its not all bad!!

How about Aiden, Sean, Daniel, Matthew or Orin? Just to throw a spanner in!

I've always liked Nathan or Nathaniel, but was marred for me by a kid I went to school with.. would have always thought of him. (

saadia · 14/12/2005 14:07

I like Rory.

TheFish · 14/12/2005 14:08

like rory but am anxiosu he may have a speech problem adn thus clal him self wowy

JUST imagine the mispronouncments fro joachim

TheFish · 14/12/2005 14:09

Ruaridh

thast just asking fro trouble

ParrupupumScum · 14/12/2005 14:09

Not keen on Rory. Sounds fat and bluff to me, for some reason. If I had to choose a Scottish boys name I'd have Hamish because there was an extremely lovely kid I did music with called Hamish. Total sweetie.

MissCaitlin · 14/12/2005 14:43

Lol ? thanks Chandra, will bear the alkie connection in mind .
I like Logie ? never heard that one? a bit like bogie, but nice nonetheless, and I don?t mind names being a bit different.

When I grew up, there wasn?t another Caitlin in (my) universe and hardly anybody EVER got it right ? if they heard it first they could never spell it, and if they read it first they would insist on calling me CAT-lin. I actually quite enjoyed having a name that was a bit different and it has always (rightly or wrongly) been kind of a filter of personalities for me; if someone got it right, I was always really impressed and I was used to people never getting it right? mind you, people who persisted in calling me cat-lin were just plain annoying.

So oddly spelt names don?t freak me?

And I liked Hamish too, but dh says it?s a (and I forget the word he used, something Scottish) unsophisticated country boy name and everyone at his school called Hamish caught loads of flak for it?

oh who knows?? what does he need a name for anyway? we can just call him no. 3 and be done with it

Hideous (even worse if he bcomes a Tory...)

MistleToo · 14/12/2005 14:47

could be the best thing that happens to him

NoRoosmumAtTheInn · 14/12/2005 14:49

at moondog

don't like it either, sorry - but have no better suggestions so don't listen to me!

MissCaitlin · 14/12/2005 14:49

Er... think my mother would hound him to the grave (and from the grave too)if he became a tory so not much danger of that

Quite like Rory.

Also like Fergus and Angus??

MissCaitlin · 14/12/2005 14:53

well I like (for what thats worth, and you'd think that would be something considering the fact that i'm carrying him and dealing with the delightful SPD coz of him, not to mention giving birth to him)

Leo
Louis
Ronnie
Fred
among others which i actually cant think of right now, so im obviously not that attached to them am i??

MissCaitlin · 14/12/2005 14:57

i like Angus too, but i already gave that one to ds2 as a second name. i cant very well nick it back off him now can i? or call ds3 the same name? thats a real question btw; what do you think about just using it anyway, even tho its Max's middle name?

anyway; not keen on Fergus. think it may be coz of past associations with a dodgy time-share seller...

OP posts:
ParrupupumScum · 14/12/2005 15:03

Fred is a good name.

MissCaitlin · 14/12/2005 17:20

I agree majorly, but it is met with almost universal distaste by everyone i mention it to. Why?? Fred is a fantastic name. tradtional, but still a bit unusual as its not too fashionable at the mo...
