Did your midwife listen for heartbeat at 16 weeks?

i cant remember with my other children but did your midwife try to listen for the heartbeat at 16 weeks?
Alsi i am bigger now than with them, i am about size 16 so will that mean it will be alot harder to find (was 14 before but much less wieght on my tummy )

not sure it answers your question but my midwife has listened for the heart beat at every appt since 16 weeks (inc 16 weeks)

I know when doing so most times she tells me how the regulations have changed and that she doesnt have to anymore, but how she likes to and mummies like it too, therefore she does

i cant remember if she said that at 16 weeks though (im 40+1 now!)

i had my 16 week check on friday. She did say however not to panic if she was struggling to find it as the baby could be hiding or in my case kept moving around. Got to say i left really dissapointed, id been looking forward to this possibility all week, dh wasn't able to make the appointment and i said if they listen to it i'll try and record it on my phone. MW said everything was as it should be but i could barely hear anything, it was so faint and in the distance.

Nope though she did at 24 weeks and guess she will from now on, 28 wk appointment next week.

My midwife listened at 17 weeks but said they don't worry if they can't hear anything until 20 weeks. She found it immediately but said that it helps a lot if you are slim and that it's often more difficult to hear something if women carry more weight.

No mine didn't, even at now 35 wks I've only had it done once (at about 30 wks I think).

I asked when I was pregnant with DD, the MW said in my area they are told not to listen until at least 20 weeks as it can be difficult to find, which then leads to worry for the mother if they don't find it.

Yes. I'm a size 22 and she said she would try to find it if I promised not to panic if she couldn't. She said it was often very hard to find at 16 weeks. What she meant was it was often very hard to find at 16 weeks if you're a fat cow :o She found it straight off though, no problem.

I had a consultant appt last week at 16 weeks and a student midwife listened to mine. i cant remember with the other 2 DC!

Ok thanks! Well im off now so i suppose i am about to find out :) part of me wants her to listen but another part doesnt in case she doesnt find anything i am a worrier i know i will panic then

My MW checked it at 16wks and every appt since. I actually found it more emotional than the scan :o

I don't think it's always very easy to find at 16wks especially if your baby happens to be 'hiding' at the appt.

My MW says the policy is to listen for it from 16 weeks.
My appointment slipped to 18+6 and the MW had problems finding it; blamed the fact I was a second time mother (not my tummy flab thank god ). After aaaages and aaaages she did locate it though- phew.

Mine first checked hb at 14 weeks (took her a while to find it) and at every appointment since.

I'm a size 16 and my gp found the hb at 12+6!! This dc4 and I've never had or heard of a hb being heard that early. I was also made to promise not to freak out .

Mw got it at 16wks, but I have my own doppler and I could find it at about 14wks. At 16wks I could feel him moving away from the doppler, and mw had a hell of job finding it. It was quite funny.

No, I don't believe she did. The sonographer listened after I asked her to, at 12 weeks. Just ask!

I think with DD (2009) the mw only listened from about 20-odd weeks. This pg my mw is very sympathetic to my anxieties (have lost 2 babies since DD) and has promised to listen every week if I wanted from about 16 weeks. Had a very sympathetic dr who tried to listen at about 9 weeks on a slim chance and we heard nothing, but bless her she tried.

I'm sure if you ask they'll listen--most mws understand how long a gap it is between scans and before being able to feel the baby every day for peace of mind.

She did, yes, but she told me that if she couldn't find it then not to worry as it's quite normal not to find it at this age.

Yes she did. I had my 16 weeks appointment today.

First time she found a heartbeat at 11 weeks.

I had to ask her to check for h.b at 16 weeks as I was feeling a bit anxious, she was reluctant as it can be difficult to find and her machine was "crappy" she found it though and I felt much better

My Midwife friend says she can find them from 9 weeks, (She offered me as I was really worried about MC) obviously the baby can hide as previous posters have said.

I found the heartbeat myself at 9ish weeks this time, gp listened and found at 12 weeks. I'm 12+5 now, 5th dc.

No. Not until 24 weeks. The policy seems to vary from area to area.

well she did try and couldnt find it. Which is slightly annoying! I have a scan booked on thursday so hopefully(!) will get to see things are all ok then
