DD - felt a bit odd for a day, and didn't want to do much but hunker down on the sofa and eat ice cream (so not that odd for late pregnancy!)

The real first sign was a proper full on contraction... followed by another 3 mins later and my waters breaking. Very filmesque.

POP!!! i was playing solitaire on the computer at 2am as i couldnt sleep and all of a sudden i just felt and heard a huge popping noise. I stood up and my waters exploded all over the bed Shock. I ran in to DP (who was sleeping in the spare room as i snored sooo loud when i was pregnant) and he said 'are you sure you havent just done a big wee?'

She was early (only 9 days) and i hadnt packed my hospital bag so i had to rush round doing that as my first contractions started, we'd moved house 2 days earlier and i couldnt find anything.

Good luck, its lovely to think a new life could be coming into the world right now x

Unreasonablyfedup · 26/08/2011 23:12

hi schroeder - kind of tired, hormonal and a bit blue. Guess that is what pregnancy does to you. Braxton hicks (which I guess they must have been) have eased. DP has got me onto bashing baddies on the wii (lego batman) which is not my usual thing and it's helping!

Unreasonablyfedup · 26/08/2011 23:12

ps - thanks for asking!

iceandsliceplease · 26/08/2011 23:13

On both occasions I woke up in agonising pain with contractions. DS was born in less than three hours, DD in less than 45 minutes. No BH in either pregnancy, didn't have a show until twenty minutes into contractions, waters didn't pop until less than twenty minutes (DS) and ten minutes (DD).

Everyone always says how lucky I am to have had such short labours, but actually it's bloody annoying.

startingagainafter14years · 27/08/2011 00:33

My 1st DD was induced and 2nd DS I leapt up and took the dog for a walk. I had so much energy the dog couldn't keep up with me! I could've run the whole way! 2hrs later little man was born!

I'm excited for you!
Good luck!

This is v interesting...I'm 39+6 and keep feeling like it's about to start. Have felt quite fluey all evening with sore throat and runny nose out of the blue, body has "emptied" itself over last few days and I've just woken up to period pains (nothing more as yet). Interestingly, today I decided I had to paint skirting boards, windowsills and my loft hatch and my cat hasnt left my side and is currently standing guard outside my bedroom door.

If it does kick off tonight then I will have had text book signs of labour, however I may still be here this time next week....[reaches for a towel to put under sheet in case waters break]Blush

julesgee · 27/08/2011 03:58

Oh you Ok Annie?

KateBC · 27/08/2011 08:13

My waters broke whilst I was on the phone to the midwife, was phoning as I had started getting symptoms of pre eclampsia, so was just telling them and arranging to go in. Then waters broke, so said I'll definitely be coming in now. DH offered to drop me off at hospital entrance, but I said I'd go to the car park and walk, as I naively thought all the waters were gone, but had another huge gush getting out of car and was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms to walk through Saturday nigt crowds to get to the main entrance of the hospital Blush. Was borderline for quite a few symptoms of pre eclampsia, which might have triggered labour.

37 weeks with DS2, and been nesting like a crazy person, and having mild period pains, so who knows. DS1 was two weeks early so could be on his way! I'd like a couple more days at least though, cos my house is at the 'worse before it gets better' stage after I emptied out a load of cupboards last night then lost motivation Grin

highheelsandequations · 27/08/2011 08:17

Waters broke, and continued to gush everywhere all day every time I moved, yuck!!!

latrucha · 27/08/2011 08:48

Vomiting and diahorrea for six hours which gradually started coming every 10 minutes. Apparently it's common (although not on this thread Blush)

oldenoughtowearpurple · 27/08/2011 09:32

DS - textbook show-waters-contractions

DD - asked the Au Pair (how lucky was I) to help me defrost the freezer, which I had a sudden overwhelming urge to do. Would have been better if I had also asked her to turn it back on after DD was born 5 hours later.

ZeroMinusZero · 27/08/2011 09:47

First sign for me was fifty million gallons of water pouring out from me and ruining the mattress.

Had also had a few shows in the week or so prior to that.

Annie456 · 27/08/2011 10:03

Gah! Big fat nothing here, still got period pains but my flu-like symptoms are now just a snotty cold. Grumpy start to bank hol weekend...just wish I knew whether it would be today / tomorrow / next week...

jimmijam · 27/08/2011 10:16

I only went into natural labour with my first and it took 3 days of niggling contractions and show before I burst into tears and started howling about how I couldn't cope and having a baby was the most rubbish thing in the world. That was transition, apparently.

DC2 was induced at 17 days post dates and God, he was practically dragged out kicking and screaming. I was being prepped for a section due to non-progression when I started involuntarily pushing (I had an epidural). He was born fairly quickly after that.

DC3 was induced at 36 weeks because I had cardiomyopathy, two days of prostin had done nothing and so I was lying in bed watching The West Wing on my laptop when I felt "the pop". DD was born two hours later - my quickest delivery.

DC4 made it to 38 weeks before I was induced and I thought it would be the same - or quicker - than DC3. Wrong. Three days of prostin then a rest day and not a sausage, the consultant broken my waters at 2cm dilated (10am). She was eventually born at 7.50pm.

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 27/08/2011 10:57

Hi BCB I remember saying to DH "I don't want to do this !" when in labour with DC2. DH was concerned as we were still at home in what we thought were the relatively early stages, and I had coped fairly well when having DD1.
Turns out that was pretty much transition too - and lucky we only live 5 mins from the hospital because we only just made it there in time for the birth Grin

Sarahplane · 27/08/2011 11:31

With dd period type pains but didn't realise until waters broke. As soon as waters broke full on contractions started every 3 mins and dd was born less than 4 hours later. With ds I started getting pains in my back at about 5.30pm, irregular but roughly every 10 mins. Stayed the same until I got woken up by my waters breaking at 10 to 5am then contractions every 2 mins. Got to hospital at 6, ds born at 8.02am.

Sarahplane · 27/08/2011 11:35

Felt all the pains in my back and bum because ds was back to back

jimmijam · 27/08/2011 11:44

Sarah- did baby turn in time 4 birth?
I c a lot of ur labours started with waters breaking. With ds and dd my waters were broken 4 me towards the end of labour. Wonder if this time will b any different...

Something woke me up in the middle of the night. I got out of bed and my waters broke. That was the first sign.

Contractions started with a vengeance about an hour later.

Sarahplane · 27/08/2011 12:12

I think they said he turned as he was being born but not sure. It was all a bit of a blur tbh.

freybean · 27/08/2011 12:16

i had nothing, 8 days overdue had a sweep then started to get really bad belly ache (still went shopping tho Confused)

then started having contractions that were all over the place, didn't have a show and they had to break my waters when i was 7cm

swingingcat · 27/08/2011 12:20

First: woke at 2am with very low stabbing pains, thought I needed a poo! Baby born 2pm, 3 weeks earlier than expected but all fine.

Second: woke at 7am thought I was peeing myself as constant trickle down my inner thigh. Baby born at 2pm, 3 weeks earlier than expected but all fine.

Third: After 3 false alarms, woke up 7am with regular 10 min contractions, packed up other two to a neighbour and baby born at noon, 1 day later than expected and all fine.

leicestershiregirl · 27/08/2011 12:30

Woke up early in the morning, stood up and a bit of water dribbled out on to the carpet. Contractions started not long after.
