Morning! Been up since 6.30. On a Saturday.

owl let us know if we start doing your head in asking about the owlet - I can imagine it's what everyone is asking you and I'm sure you are thinking about it all the time every now and again! Very amused by the idea of your freakishly long arms. Can you scratch your own back if you get an itch in a hard to reach place?

irene order the mattress topper today. Mine was £50 on offer at JL but there are loads on amazon/ebay for less and it has made my hips feel a lot better.

I've already done 2 loads of washing today. Best mates are coming down later though - I might have a glass of wine. oooo.

Ugh! Pink I know how you feel, 5.50am this morning we were up with DS, on top of 2 other wake ups.

I'm having a break from laundry today, just one load of sheets. I'm going to try to make DH iron them tomorrow in time for two new lots of guests in the evening. He's nagging me to invite loads of people round for a bbq tomorrow which I'm a bit Hmm about. That will mean either getting everyone to traipse upstairs and use our en suite loo in order to keep the guest ones clean whilst making sure everyone keeps the floors clean, or it will mean muggins having to try and kick everyone out politely while my pissed husband tries to make them stay and then having to re-clean the floors and bathrooms in time for the arrival of paying guests.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 13/08/2011 15:47

Dammit I posted yesterday but think I lost it!

Am currently in France with no reliable wifi connection so may not be around much for the next couple of weeks. I'll be thinking of you all though and taking a minute to catch up when I can Smile

I suspect I can probably tick off most of collie's list but did heave myself along for a pre-holiday bikini waxing this week (why? I clearly can't fit in a bikini!) so at least fanjo is tidy for now Wink. Surprised by how much it hurt though - have done two labours with only tens but am fearful my pain threshold has dropped over the last 5 years...

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 13/08/2011 15:53

izzy I am also fearful of my low pain threshold. I can't seem to cope with my BH or with my trapped wind cramps let alone wind Hmm May need to man up somehow between now and October.

IreneHeron · 13/08/2011 15:58

My pain threshold is currently at the point of touching my thumbnail which has a splinter down it and is on the way to becoming red and infected. It is quite bad enough for me, I am totally in denial about the thought of having to deal with labour pains.

Minnie74 · 13/08/2011 17:15

Hi everyone

Checking in after my week away with no internet connection and crap signal on phone. I've tried to read back but know I'm bound to miss something. Sorry.

Dachs fingers crossed for the next two weeks. You so deserve good news.

wiw so sorry about Suki- it made me cry so don't now how you coped. Big hugs x

owl pmsl at the freakishly long arms. Hurry up baby owlet too!

collie I'm stressing about the weight gain too- Just under a stone for me at 22 weeks but think I've put on at least half a stone this holiday from all the cakes, fudge and chips I've eaten this week Shock. Dreading getting on the scales. DP gets a bit annoyed with my whinging about it now and his response is "You're not bloody fat you're pregnant" which is very supportive of him i find Smile

Hilarious lists of hideousness Grin how anyone can be attractive in pregnancy beats me.

Can i also add freakishly large breasts which disguise any bump and just give the illusion of being a fat git. I've cried twice this holiday about mine! Blush

And horrible heartburn. (Any ideas of cures gratefully received!)

IreneHeron · 13/08/2011 17:44

Minnie just glug the Gaviscon down your neck for the heartburn. I've a bottle by my bed. Hellish isn't it!

I'm not even thinking about the weight I'm going to have to shift after DS2 is born. I know what I'm like when I'm breastfeeding and ravenous is not the word for it. I couldn't keep myself away from chocolate digestives with DS1.

angela85 · 13/08/2011 20:26

Hi guys. Just wondering if I can join you? I miscarried in March, and am pregnant again now. No idea how far along as i never had a period in between, however my midwife (without even examining me i might add) is adamant that i'm only 11 weeks. I seriously hope she is wrong as i am huge already! getting quite worried about twins, and just clinging onto the hope that i'm carrying a lot of water! Got a scan on Monday so i guess all will be revealed soon enough. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and i hope i won't have to bore you too much with all my little worries. xx

PinkFondantFancy · 13/08/2011 22:30

Hi Angela, sorry for your loss but congratulations on the BFP! you are very welcome to join us here and freak out as much as to like, or you might also like to look at the thread over on the conception board called the 'freak out room' - some people prefer to start over there as the talk of being further along can freak people out even more, but entirely up to you whether you want to be here/there/both

Ladies, I can confirm that you have nothing to worry about because they are not labour pains, they are labour sensations-that's right, I
have completed my NCT brainwashing Grin Have really enjoyed the classes and definitely think they were worthwhile, although will be taking some bits with a pinch of salt! Best bit is I just had a lovely meal and drinks with some people from the class so am well chuffed. Worst bit is that DH is pissed as a fart, stinks of beer and will probably snore and fart all night now.... Confused

PinkFondantFancy · 13/08/2011 22:33

Oh are cankles on your list of glamour?

Also, am slightly worried about my pain threshold too as we passed a TENs machine round the class today, and level 2 touching my thumb made me squeal because it hurt!!! Confused not exactly a promising sign!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 14/08/2011 10:08

pink I had a tens machine when i was labouring with DD. MW was adamant it would 'ease the pain' FML it was worse than the contractions themselves. As soon as she turned it on, on apparently the lowest setting, I jumped up off the bed screaming 'get the effing thing off me' I have never felt pain like it! I am a wimp Grin It's funny in hindsight but at the time I was well peed off with her for that! Grin I think a tens machine isnt for me, perhaps.

owlbooty · 14/08/2011 10:44

Mmm, cankles. Word to the wise; if they're starting to appear, put your feet up and get some rest. Otherwise your MW will start wittering about protein and flashing lights and you will find yourself donating quite literally pints of pee-in-a-pot until the day you deliver.

I have hired a TENS machine but no idea if I will want to use it or not - my pain threshold is generally pretty high but the one type of pain I have had a mare with in the past was period pain and I know from the mc that that is how it's likely to feel, at least for the first bit. So I may cave in at the first proper twinge and beg for an epidural.

Interesting epidural fact for the day (as relayed to me by the MW yesterday) - at my hospital they start you on a relatively low dose and generally if you're just labouring with it rather than in theatre, you can still kneel up on the bed etc and get into a good active birth position (with some assistance). Which is a far better place to be than flat on your back. Interesting induction drip thingy fact - it is not a given that they will ramp it up every half an hour and you can tell them to leave it be or even turn it down if you are finding the contractions too much or just want a bit more time to get used to them.

Theoretically I have an induction date booked for next Saturday night but in the real world, there's no way I'm going to do it unless there's a real medical reason to go ahead. Apparently also, if I go over 42 weeks I can still have a home birth if I just tell them I am not coming in. Buahahahaha. Not sure the MW should have told me that but she's been very good at discreetly reminding me that it's all my choice and nobody at the hospital can tell me what I can or cannot do. Hoorah!

Welcome and congratulations! :)

Minnie I second the gaviscon. I swig it straight from the bottle. The peppermint double action liquid is the business - I think you can even get it on prescription (i.e. free). Tis the nectar of the gods. Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 14/08/2011 12:07

Haha coconuts glad it's not just me! owly the teacher yesterday recommended practicing getting DH to stick them on your back and you getting used to a low setting.

Also owly NCT person said you are entitled to refuse induction and to ask for daily scans to check placenta is still working ok if you so choose. And I learned yesterday you're entitled to refuse anything at all during labour, tis entirely up to you apparently. Also, if they are recommending a course of action, BRIAN is your friend (DH and I pissed ourselves laughing but she wasn't taking the mickey out of my inability to remember anything anymore, it stands for

What are the Benefits
What are the Risks
What is your Instinct
What are the Alternatives
What if I do Nothing

Thought that was a good list to give to DH to pump them for info if they are recommending stuff.

Also owly on this cankels subject..... Problem I've got is that I've got a suspicion mini pink is edging its way round to back to back so have been spending as much time as poss sitting upright or on birthing ball, but that doesn't go with chilling out with feet up :( need to try and wrestle the wedding ring off later too before it's too late....

owlbooty · 14/08/2011 15:25

Tis a right bugger, isn't it, I also spend half my life leaning forwards on ball and the other half with feet up on sofa. Thankfully Owlet is properly wedged LOA and has been since 34 weeks so he's not going anywhere.

I can't remember the BRIAN acronym now so I doubt I would be able to whilst actually labouring, but I did like one suggested by someone else - all you need to do is train DH to ask two questions of any medical person who tries to do anything to you:

Who are you?
What is that?

This basically covers pretty much all eventualities and ensures nobody does anything to you that you haven't okayed first. Grin

tiggersreturn · 14/08/2011 20:04

Just to let you know 2 babies came yesterday by surprise at 33+4 by vbac 1 is 5lb2 and 2 is 3lb13. Both boys. Still in shock. 2 in scbu mainly due to weight

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 14/08/2011 20:17

Yay tigger - congrats! :) Hope out of SCBU soon. :) How are you?

tiggersreturn · 14/08/2011 20:24

Thanks dachs. A bit sore but feeling amazing. Also wondering how everything will get done given we moved house on weds and are still in boxes plus au pair arrives on thurs

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 14/08/2011 20:41

Well at least you have moved. The boxes will sort themselves out in due course. Do they have names yet? Grin

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 14/08/2011 21:03

Congrats tigger - fab news!! Grin Grin. Hoping twin2 is out of SCBU soon and heading home with you asap (don't worry about the boxes, twins won't notice! Wink ). Glad you're feeling ok xx

tiggersreturn · 14/08/2011 21:13

Charlie brown and snoopy :o

IreneHeron · 14/08/2011 21:21

Tigger congrats! Grin. Hope you all head home happily soon.

owlbooty · 14/08/2011 21:26

Aw Tigger am delighted they're both okay given they're a bit on the early side - hope miniTigger is out of SCBU very soon and piling on the pounds. No wonder you're shocked - that's going to take some time to sink in! Massive congratulations :) x

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 14/08/2011 21:27

Congrats tigger Cute names Wink What a surprise arrival though. Hoping twin 2 is out of scbu soon. xx

Velvetcu · 14/08/2011 21:44

Congrats tigger what a surprise!! They're quite big aren't they considering they're twins and early?? I would say let someone else unpack the boxes but you'll only have to spend time putting stuff where you actually wanted it later on!

mamapower · 14/08/2011 21:51

Yay! Huge congrat's Tigger Grin
