October baby - long sleeve or short sleeve sleep/body suits ?????

help?? It's our first-due in oct and we're just on the mother care website looking at the sale items.... We're stuck on whether to get long or short sleeve suits? Also, short or full legs? Sorry if this is a really stupid question! X

I never ever used long sleeved babygrows

always used short under clothes so they wouldnt have 2 sleeves on each arm IYSWIM

I would say short sleeved and then put on an extra layer if need be. Newborns are quite tricky to dress and you want to make it as easy as possible. So for bed for example I used to do a short sleeved bodysuit/vest, all in one sleepsuit and then one of my mums knitted cardigans that were easy to remove if my baby got too hot.

nb..asda /tesco brill for cheap yet 100%cotton short sleeve little under baby grow suit things. packs of 3 or 5 or 7 cheaper than mothercare

I just had short sleeve/short leg for DS. They have a sleepsuit/clothes on over it, you can add a cardigan or blanket(s) etc, if you're in the house and it's cold you'd have the heating on and if you were going out you'd have a coat on.

The way I did it was to build up layers with the smallest and lightest layers closest to his skin (so the vest) and then the bigger/thicker layers toward the outside. It made it easier to add/remove layers as needed to keep him warm/cool him down.

I would also recommend getting a sleeping/ growbag too as they are nice and cosy but also safe. The White Company do lovely traditional style ones, and I also saw some funkier ones in Ikea last week that were less than £10

Sleepsuits longsleeve and long leg, vests shortsleeve and short leg.

I also second Asda being cheaper than Mothercare - three pack of white cotton vests (bodysuits) is £2.50

Short sleeved and put something over the top. Agree with scarlett, layering is best. My daughter had eczema and was always too hot so it was easier to dress/undress like that. I would put a vest on for bedtime and a babygrow on top.

Supermarkets do win hands down for value - seem to last well too.

TKMax often have branded Grobags for less than half the price - go for yellow, purples etc (taht will suit either sex) as they wash and last so well that they'll see you through a few dc!

Can I join in the thread with a question - I bought a few long sleeved vests which I thought could work with bottoms and a short sleeved vest underneath if necessary? Or is that not a good idea?

I wouldnt put short sleeved vests under a long sleeved vest because they are usually quite close fitting and I think baby would clam up and get too hot. You can use them with bottoms though and put a cardi/jumper on top.

I haven't bought any short sleeve or no sleeve vests (was thinking of getting those later in white as "underwear" under sleep suits but for some reason have bought a few outfits which basically consist of long sleeved vest (no legs) + soft waisted bottoms (with and without feet) I think your idea with a cardi will be fine ;)

I will probably have to get short sleeve or sleeveless vests for under sleepsuits? Which ones are more comfortable? - October baby as well!

Morning Beesok :) I find that the ones without any sleeves are better for putting under things but not sure if you will find them in the winter. I got mine in asda and my DD wears them under dresses/suits etc even now at 21 months! DD is an October baby and so will our next one be. When are you due? Ours is due the 19th :)

long sleeve bodysuits I always found great as a top under dungarees tbh.

otherwise short sleeves bodysuit (vest) under everything for all my babies and i've spring, winter and summer babies.

Hi Ivor our little one is due on Oct 17 :) ok so maybe I should be some sleeveless vests now in case they're harder to find in winter?

Please tell me that all those cute long sleeved vests I bought are not a waste :((((( I have matched them up with bottoms/leggings :( surely adding a little cardi on top will give the same effect as having an extra vesta underneath?
Thankfully our house is quite warm in winter and I also have a fab down cocoon bag for the pram which I imagine is like a warm puffer coat so no need for lots of layers underneath?

They won't be a waste at all and will be fine to put on underneath a cardi with leggings on the bottom. I use long sleeve vests with DS in the winter under short-sleeved t-shirts to keep his forearms warm and I use them under dungarees too so they do have their uses.

You'll be able to find short-sleeve vests all year round too :)

A cocoon bag for the pram will be lovely and warm too.

The general rule in cold weather is that baby needs one more layer than you, so if you're comfortable in shirt sleeves then baby will need shirt sleeves and a cardigan.

oh yes i remember using summer tee's on top of l/s vests too in winter for baby.

you can get short sleeved vests throughout the year, but the sleeveless ones are normally only out with summer ranges.

Phew :) was starting to panic ;) I am laying out the tops/vests/bottoms and trying to match them up - Mum and MIL are busy knitting cardis ;)
