I thought for sure someone else would have posted this before me! I am 5 weeks along (sounds so insignificant.....) and am seeing my doctor tomorrow to get things going. Am really excited and am hoping that things go well! According to those pregnancy charts, my edd is June 12.
So come on mumsnetters, who else is joining me here?!

juelgaz · 08/11/2003 20:08

Hi niknik,
I had a nuchal scan with my last pregnancy, and I had to pay, if I can remember correctly, £150.00 private. My scan was done at RVI Newcastle, and they were all fantastic there. I was 36 at the time.
Take care

cathncait · 09/11/2003 00:45

Hi everyone. had a dating scan on friday and everything is good. Baby is well and had a strong little heart beat. Looks like my dates were right too - 13th June. I have to say i was so pleased that there really was a baby in there! ha ha I almost expected them to say.."you do know you're not actually pregnant right?' Whew.
I'm still feeling sick and really tired but possibly not as bad as a few weeks ago so thats great. Hope you are all well and happy.

Skara · 09/11/2003 19:43

Oops, have been in denial about having no3 and forgot to read this thread for ages!!! Nice to see I share a due date with someone, Scampadoodle I'm also relieved to discover I'm not the only one feeling like poo with bloated stomach and a diet of virtually nothing exciting to live on. Still managing to get all lardy already though...gained 3.5 stone with both previous pregnancies and I'd quite like to avoid it this time. Note to self: do not have indian takeaway for tea in that case. Oink!

leander · 09/11/2003 23:24

well it's time to come clean,I've posted under wendy123 because I hadn't told anyone but now I have.I think my due date is around 23rd june have got my 1st appointment on 25th Nov,I've got 1 ds 22mths and I wasn't planning on another so soon but things happen.I'm thrilled now but feeling really shi**Y at the moment constantly sick and feeling really fat.The worst thing is I am really struggling to stop smoking I know its terrible so please don't lecture meand I know it doesn't make it any better but I have gone from 20 to about 3 or 4 a day .

Welshmum · 10/11/2003 11:12

We're due on almost the same day leander. My dd is 19 months so share the same trepidation but excitement too. I think you're doing really well with the fags. I thought it would be difficult to give up my glass of wine but I can't bear the thought of it anymore.

lazyeye · 10/11/2003 12:14

Humm question for Juelgaz really. Interested to see you had your nuchal fold scan at the RVI. I'm in Newcastle as well & had thought about this as will be 36 by the time I deliver. Should I have the nuchal fold?? They don't offer in at Rake Lane (North Tyneside). Did your GP or m/wife recommend one because of your age??

Nice to know someone in Neast due around same time (27th I think for me). This is my third, but keeping low key after m/cs

karen01 · 10/11/2003 20:50

leander, I too am having difficulty to give up the fags!! Will keep on trying though. I am just feling really down at the moment and I don't know why which isn't helping in giving them up!!. I am seeing midwife on Thursday and hope she can give me some advise. I should be getting realy excited what with the prospect of a new baby in June, holiday in the Dominican this xmas and New Year and a move to Cyprus in January/feb.
Has any one started to have really wierd dreams yet. I had them with DD but not this early on, but have had them nearly every night for the last 4 nights. They all seem to be relating to my pregnancy with DD for some reason, hope it is not a sign that the pregnancy will be the same.
I had better go or I will be waghling on all night, .

Take Care everyone kx

Hi Lazyeye,
Nice to know that I am not alone from the North east. I live 45mins from Newcastle, Darlington.
My midwife gave me the information on the nuchal scan at Newcastle, and also some tests that could be done at Leeds. After some consideration I opted for the nuchal scan, done privately, at the RVI. I was 36 at the time, and felt that as it had been 7 years since my dd was born, and I was higher risk with my age, that I would have the screening test, mainly with downes syndrome in mind.
I had my nuchal fold scan, where they measure the fold of skin at the back of babys neck, and unforunately discovered that there was a very high risk, 1:6, that I was carrying a downes baby.
I then had the choice of having a CVS, or an amnio, to give me a definate result. I opted for a CVS, which could be done the next day, and sadly found out that my baby had downes syndrome. I then took the very personal decision of not continuing the pregnancy.
The staff at the RVI were superb, and I am actually going there for a CVS on 24th November,I decided to cut out the nuchal scan this time, as I am obviously classed as high risk having had a previous downes pregnancy.A nuchal scan will indicate whether there could be a problem, but will not give you a definate result.
I found having that nuchal scan invaluable, and would say to anyone considering it, think long and hard about what you would do in any outcome, it is a very personal decision and one that can only be made by yourself.
Please keep in touch and let me know what you decide. I hope that I havent been too negative in this message, I tried not to be, as I feel that having a nuchal scan was a good thinbg for me.
Take care lazyeye,

lazyeye · 12/11/2003 15:00

Julegaz - thanks. Have got my booking appt with mwife on Monday, so maybe will consider Nuchal fold. I know I considered it for my youngest (who is 13mnths) but I missed the window for it - its quite precise isn't it? I hope everything is fine for you after such a sad experience.

Lovely to know there are some North East reps on here. I'm from windy Whitley Bay......

karen01 · 13/11/2003 15:34

Hi Sorry but I am going to have a whinge as I have been sat crying for the past 40 mins after my booking in appointment, may just be my hormones and you may think that I am being silly!! As you are probably aware I had a difficult pregnancy last time (a couple of complecations, so I thought that this time round i would me monitered more closly, how wrong was I, the midwife has just informed me that I will probably have a healthy pregnancy this time as I am a healthy 27 year old (7 years ago I was an even healthier 20 year old!!!) with an increased risk of a problem arising but I will not be monitered any closer than normal. And when I asked for an early scan was told there is no point in them. I know these sound trivia to cry over when you see it written down but ...I can't help but feel upset. Sorry for unloading on you all but I have no one to talk to were we live as don't really know anyone. Tried to listen to heartbeat but couldn't hear anything yet, seeing her again in 5 weeks hopefully will be able to hear something then as I will be 13weeks. just wish I was back in Aldershot (moved 12wks ago when got married) at least I could get an early scan there and see my baby to reasure me!!!. Sorry one again.

Take care everyone. k

Jemma7 · 13/11/2003 15:47

Sorry to jump in on this thread as i don't belong here but just wanted to say that i feel for you Karen!
I have my booking appointment on Tuesday and i hope my midwive is a bit more helpful and re-assuring than yours appears to be.

You would think that it's likely she is a mother and would understand the worrying we all go through in the early stages - sounds like a right bitch!

Try to cheer up - When are you due?

karen01 · 13/11/2003 16:19

Thanks Jemma, my date is about the 16th June. So I am currently 9 weeks.

Jemma7 · 13/11/2003 16:22

I hope everything goes well for you.

As i've got my booking appointment on Tuesday and i'm not due til 6th July does this seem a bit early?

karen01 · 13/11/2003 18:10

No I just think it depends on the area you live in.

scampadoodle · 14/11/2003 12:03

Bless me Father, for I have sinned... had a glass of (red) wine last night (I'm 11 weeks). Not the first drink I've had either. Not looking for approbation or approval - just confessing!

ps when i say "it's not the first I've had", I mean I've had about 3 glasses of wine over the past 6 weeks, not downing a bottle a night!

Cavy · 14/11/2003 12:37

If only a glass of wine every day would cure my morning sickness....

Bewildered to discover I have gained 3 or 4 lbs; I always lost weight before in early pregnancy. As if to retaliate, my body is making me be sick a lot more often the last few days. Oh well!!

Sorry the MW wasn't more sympathetic, Karen01. I can understand them wanting to keep costs down, but she could have least told you that at the 12 week scan you'd be able to lay out all your concerns with the hospital doctors. Consultants are usually more interventionist than community MWs. Maybe they could put a stitch in your cervix in case you might be suffering from incompetent cervix? Or maybe what the MW is saying really is good news, that what happened last time was just bad luck, and you truly aren't any more likely than anybody else to have the same problems again?

scampadoodle · 14/11/2003 12:54

Any advice on how to assert oneself with midwives etc would be much appreciated by me. Ds1 was born with what they subsequently suspected was strep b (nearly died, but is now thankfully absolutely fine). I'm having no2 at the same hospital (UCH) -does anyone have any experience as to how seriously UCH takes strep b, or will I have to stamp my little foot & threaten a tantrum to get decent monitoring & iv antibiotics in labour? I know there's a seperate strep b thread, but this is more about how to get what you want...

Cavy · 14/11/2003 13:28

I sort of thought Strep B was something that only the hospital can deal with. So no point in bothering your community MW. Will you get at least 2 scans? So you could ask about their policy at the 12 week scan, and if it's not pro-active enough for you, go to the 20 week scan armed with facts and figures to badger them with? I thought the main thing about Strep B was making sure the hospital are ready to give you anti-biotics when you come in during labour....(?)

I'm the opposite, my hospital was threatening to introduce compulsory screening 2 years ago, but I don't want to be tested this time, either. I'm sure your concerns are valid, I just weigh up the risks differently. I'm sure you'll get the best advice from other MNers if you revive one of the existing StrepB threads.

karen01 · 14/11/2003 14:47

Cavy, When I said they don't do early scans I mean the first scan is at 20 weeks so until then I can't see anyone else. I have managed to sort my head out now and have decided that I am very emotional at the moment anyway, and the fact I don't like the area I am in at the best of times made things even worse. We are moving mid jan (I should be about 18 weeks then)so hoping that Cyprus are going to be fairly quick at booking in etc so I don't miss my 20 week scan either.!!!

Not sure whether I should push to see consultant before we move just to put my mind at rest or am I just being neurotic???

Cavy · 14/11/2003 15:10

Could you pay to get the nuchal fold done privately at 12 weeks, and the scan might help reassure you? I think it "only" costs about £150, plus travel costs to London, of course.

I just found a MNer talking about raising a child in Greece - are you going to be in Greek Cyprus? People usually say that Maternity Care on the Continent is more medicalised than Britain, but not as well-funded. Will you be at a Greek State hospital or private? And I thought my life was a bit hectic right now!

karen01 · 14/11/2003 20:39

We are going out with the forces so think I will be in a military hospital, my DH spoke to someone today out there aand they told him that the ante natal care is superb, they are getting back to us re the special care for babies (just incase!!).

I know I shouldn't worry about it to much but I can't help but think what if....
I think we are on the Greek side.
